This lone #iceskater located on the #stklida #Esplinade #Australia is simply majestic.
It stands at over 10 foot tall on the Upper Esplanade and peers serenely over the tram tracks, the foreshore and bay, toward the west of our gorgeous city!
This iconic beauty celebrates the previous existence of the St. Moritz Ice Rink. This venue was a popular ice rink housed in a grand building on The Esplanade, which operated between 1939–1981.
As one of only two ice rinks in Melbourne in the 40s and 50s, it played a central role to the sport of ice hockey in Australia.
Closed in 1982, as it suffered a major fire and was then demolished.
The St. Moritz was first built as the Wattle Path Palais de Danse in 1922, a very large dance hall.

A couple of nights ago just prior to sunset, nature treated #Melburnians to a show of #cloud formation that stretched over #PortPhillipBay!
These shots were taken along the #Esplinade #StKilda #melbourne.
The bay was also illuminated as the setting sun hit the water, to the west.
The clouds appeared to be a shimmering mix of silvers, greys and white.
Pic 4 shows a palm with what appears a radiating aura about it… a cool cloud formation 🤍🤍

The theme of this mural is ‘belonging’ and she goes on to say, that whilst it was difficult fitting in as a child, art has been instrumental in her personal journey and growth. And has been an avenue to finding herself; her fit [sic].

I love this piece. The child’s eyes; beaming with innocence and clarity. She is living in the moment; in spontaneous joy of this captured moment. Unadulterated child-like wonderment. Being present and alive!
Although her vulnerability (also evident) is present, this youngster’s inherent knowledge, if not at a cellular level, knows that to dream the dream will bring nothing but joy.

@mbroome and I have been experimenting with pumpkin-guts scones from one of my favorite cookbooks, [Cooking with Scraps](https://bookshop.org/p/books/cooking-with-scraps-turn-your-peels-cores-rinds-and-stems-into-delicious-meals-lindsay-jean-hard/10353699).
For our first attempt, a couple weeks ago, we used squash guts; @mbroome cut the butter into the flour by hand, which was time-consuming and tedious. But they turned out really well!
Second attempt - we used actual pumpkin guts (much wetter); cut the butter into the flour, and then blended in the cooked pumpkin guts, in our Cuisinart (much faster); and accidentally made pumpkin-guts cookies - not scones. Still delicious, but they spread out instead rather than retaining their shape. Super frustrating... 😣
After consulting with more-experienced baker friends, we regrouped and tried a few tweaks:
~ draining the pumpkin guts on paper towels to reduce the moisture content
~ increasing the flour by about 10%
~ reducing our processing time in the Cuisinart to leave larger chunks of frozen butter
~ making sure the cooked pumpkin guts were fully chilled before blending them in with the dry ingredients
~ blending the pumpkin guts into the flour+butter in our KitchenAid mixerAaaand... We over-rotated on the dryness - the initial result was a crumbly mess. 🙄 @mbroome added a few tablespoons of icewater to make the dough come together, remixed it by hand - and at least the resulting scones were well-formed and delicious! 😋
We have one more portion of the guts from that pumpkin, so I'm hoping that backing off the flour to the original weight - but keeping all our other tweaks - does the trick. (Also, we're going back to doing the final blending by hand, rather than in the KitchenAid, since it didn't really improve over hand blending and just made more washing-up. Sometimes that shiny kitchen tool just doesn't add value after all...) Hopefully we'll have time to find out this week!

Vandaag was dat: rucola, Franse radijs, spitskoolblad en ijsbergsla. Dat aten we samen met kikkererwtenpasta, verse tomatensaus en een biorunderworstje. Ik moet er echt weer aan wennen om minder verse groente te kopen nu het moestuinseizoen op gang komt.

De groente van vanavond uit de #MakkelijkeMoestuin-bak een mooi krop #ijsbergsla. Gebakken visje erbij en nog wat dingen. Heerlijk. Ondertussen gaat de aardbeienoogst gewoon door en de frambozen komen er ook al aan.

Vanmiddag lekker bezig geweest in de #MakkelijkeMoestuin. Klinkt raar omdat het een bak op poten is maar goed, het groeit als 'n dolle en er moet regelmatig geoogst worden. Dat was vandaag: snijbiet, bladeren spitskool, ijsbergsla en 3 peultjes. Het vak van de rucola en paksoi heb ik leeggeoogst en opnieuw ingezaaid. Daarnaast komen er elk jaar meer potten 🙈met van alles, zoals allerlei verse kruiden, als salie (bloeit nu mooi, is vast niet de bedoeling maar mag van mij), dropplant en aardbeien.

Het gaat gesmeerd hier moestuinbak-technisch. De kleine sugarsnapplantjes achterin hebben een kap want in de klimroos erachter zit een vogelnest. Sorry merels.

De #MakkelijkeMoestuin staat weer in de steigers. Het blijft een fijne vondst: een 'moestuin aanleggen' in vakken van 30x30 en niet hoeven bukken.
Nu de #MoeilijkeMoestuin nog. Deze week eerst een schematische indeling maken en dan eens kijken wat al de grond in kan.
Het kleine kasje staat al vol met voorgezaaide potjes/plantjes zoals: babypompoen, meiraapjes, koolrabi, lupines, éénjarig bijenbloemenzaad, wintererwten, rozemarijn en peultjes.

Lekker bezig geweest vanmiddag in de (moes)tuin want geen regen hier ondanks de voorspellingen 🥳. Zelfs nog wat palmkoolblad geoogst voor de Caldo Verde van morgen. De #MakkelijkeMoestuin bak staat weer klaar, 5 vakken zijn ingezaaid, 2 met miniplantjes spitskool en ijsbergsla (I know I cheated). De peterselie en bieslook zijn de winter goed doorgekomen. De vollegrond moestuin ligt er netjes bij: de afleggers van de aardbeien zijn opgepot om weg te geven en de uien staan er fris bij.

Het was hier aan de oostgrens perfect weer om de Makkelijke Moestuin-bak klaar te maken voor het nieuwe moestuinseizoen. Er staan nog 2 zielige pollen peterselie en bieslook in, eens kijken of ze nog uitlopen. Anders gaan ze eruit.
Ik las dat veel moestuiniers op 1 maart beginnen met zaaien maar ik begin pas 1 april 🤓. Volgende week eens rustig bekijken wat ik binnen ga voorzaaien en ook de moestuin in de volle grond aanpakken.

De radijsjes zijn al oogstrijp 🥳, de erwtjes zijn bijna bij 't klimrek, de 4 paksoi's (hoe zeg je dat?) gaan ook uitstekend en ik kan al snel wat rucola oogsten. Van de 8 bedden volle grond zijn nu 6 volledig ingezaaid.
Het wordt wel wat 😀🤞
