  15. Trying to get stuff done. Calling a very large US bank: "We are sorry, we are experiencing technical issues. We can not access your account right now." But the wait time was short, I wonder why...

So let's give money to the government and file a sale tax return with the Canada Revenue Agency: "We're sorry, but we are experiencing technical difficulties and cannot process the information you entered.
Please try again later. (Ref. code: 517)"

And we thought #Y2K would be a #catastrophy.

"Both articles concentrated on the 'human interest' side of the story rather than some of the more 'technical' issues that were also discussed. However Lisa’s video did include some mention of such esoteric matters."

  18. A really insightful analysis of why this keeps happening in The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/may/21/why-are-sydney-trains-delays-so-bad-nsw-rail-network

Along with archaic practices (carbon paper notes?!?!), interlining is singled out:

"While technical issues are unavoidable on a rail network that hosts 400m trips each year, the latest outage has reignited the nagging question on the minds of millions of Sydneysiders: how can just one incident on one train at a station with multiple tracks bring down an entire city’s rail network?

    ...

"The answer to the first question is easier to comprehend, and dates back to plans made in the early 1900s – including a famous vision for new lines from Sydney Harbour Bridge engineer John Bradfield – about how to expand the rail network to cater to a growing Sydney.

"Rather than a master plan for new lines independent of each other – as modern metro and underground systems were increasingly being built throughout the 20th century – the approach for Sydney was to take advantage of the huge capacity of the six tracks that comprise its main western railway between Central and Strathfield.

"In cities such as London, commuters can avoid a bottleneck or outage on one line by switching to another to dodge a problem section of track. But almost all heavy rail services in Sydney’s suburban network – including trains to the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, City Circle or Airport – are routed to pass through the Central-Strathfield corridor.

“'A lot of our lines are tangled with each other,' Sydney Trains CEO, Matt Longland, said. 'At this critical pinch point … one incident in a location like this can bring down a significant part of the network.'"

Coincidentally, interlining is also why issues on one line end up affecting multiple lines on Melbourne's network as well.

  19. While it could've been one of the greats, or at least one of the more interesting ones, technical issues and bad co-op-centric design choices undermine the campaign in "Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7." Here's the link to my review of "Black Ops 7" as a single-player game.

  21. My 2 week insane rush for my #CKA feel ever so slightly short…

I like to think that if it weren’t for the 1h20m of technical issues beforehand I’d have found the difference but such is life.

  22. @vicorva I was going to suggest kartunix.com/ as a profile/avatar picture creator with support for a wide variety of styles, but it looks like they are having technical issues atm as I'm getting #502 #BadGateway responses myself.

  23. Are academics out there using #Diigo for #OnlineCuration and/or #SocialAnnotation?

Two reasons to ask about it. One is that I've been having technical issues and I'm wondering if others are in a similar situation.
The other is that, for the first time in quite a while, I've heard a mention of the service by someone else. So maybe others have noticed some of the same features I've noticed?
(While I prefer hypothes.is for annotation, I use Diigo much more extensively.)

  24. "Apologies for the late response here, all. You got it – we are working through technical issues from a network outage. We're getting closer to a fix. Thank you for listening (or trying to!) and for your words of support." 📻 🌐

THE BRUTALIST qualifies on all counts, but its intermission could herald a comeback: Audience habits have changed, and directors would love to use them to defend longer movies.” 📽️ 🇺🇸 🎞️ #film #movies #cinema #CineMastodon #architects #AmericanCinema
