  1. The #diigo domain "has been suspended." I've been a happy customer since 2011 and recommended it often.

I was just barely able to get my data back from their API. I quickly put together mm-diigo-rescue-285.netlify.ap for others in a similar disaster recovery situation.

  5. Any #Diigo user here? I have an issue with empty pages and rss feeds for the tags I'm using. Have you noticed the same problem?

  7. Diigo Firefox extension is no longer working?! What happened!?

    #diigo #firefox

  8. The #Chrome / #Chromium #bookmark manager drives me nuts for a few reasons and I tend to use other solutions like #Diigo, #Raindrop, or #Memex - but I still find myself falling back on the native bookmark manager sometimes as a sort of inbox.

Feeling disgruntled again (this time by the inability to add notes or tags to bookmarks) I went searching for information on modifying the native bookmark manager and stumbled across this:

  10. #question of the day: anyone familiar with a #browser #extension that allows one to allowlist other extensions on specific pages/domains? For example, if one wanted to turn off #Diigo (as I do) on #Perlego (perlego.com).

  11. @birnim

Yes, I think of #Diigo as a "tool" that is essential "equipment" to accomplish the job of bookmark creation, highlighting, tagging, and search and retrieval. It is indeed a service, but I own my data and download it periodically.

I have anticipated for years that I will eventually give my accumulated Diigo database (currently about 185k records) as a large language model to my own "AI" and have it help me search and make useful connections and inferences.

As for #Ubuntu "even under Windows", the comment is made not as entertainment, but in sympathy for many of us who would feel much happier if Windows was not part of the system, but as long as it is, we are still happy to have a working Linux environment at our disposal.

  12. #diigo is down...I don't have a good feeling about this.

  13. I'm sure I'll run out of #questions soon 😂

Curious what folks are using for highlighting and #annotation? I've been using #Diigo for many years (10? 15?) and occasionally look for alternatives.

I use #Raindrop which offers some of the same functionality, I'm aware of #Hypothesis but appears a bit more limited than I'd like.

I've tried WorldBrain's #Memex in the past but it was never quite where I wanted and now appears to be pivoting.

Ideal solution is, of course, #OpenSource. 😃

  14. Y'know what's really gone out of fashion? #Socialbookmarking. Remember #delicious and #Diigo? I talk to younger tech users who don't know what those were or why you'd ever want to use them.

I found shared Diigo lists very useful for classroom weblinks, annotation, and discussion around sites. I even follow the bookmarks of other #designers via #RSS.

Anyone still use these? Are there modern alternatives that respect #privacy more effectively? Why did you stop and would you go back?

  15. If you are looking for a good #pinboard alternative (#bookmarking with tags)

I tested #diigo last year and like it to pay for a subscription.

    Export from pinboard diigo.com/tools/import_all

  16. @fabian I’ve been happily using Diigo.com to collect, tag, and archive web references for *many* years.

I use the Diigo web interface and browser extension (adds a Share action for iOS)

Diigo has a simple RESTful style #API diigo.com/api_dev

Have heard requests to add #ActivityPub support, but don’t have any specific references

  17. Are academics out there using #Diigo for #OnlineCuration and/or #SocialAnnotation?

Two reasons to ask about it. One is that I've been having technical issues and I'm wondering if others are in a similar situation.
The other is that, for the first time in quite a while, I've heard a mention of the service by someone else. So maybe others have noticed some of the same features I've noticed?
(While I prefer hypothes.is for annotation, I use Diigo much more extensively.)

  18. Might have to move to #Vivaldi, for now, as #Diigo seems to be completely screwed up on both #Brave and #Chrome, but nowhere else! 🤔

  19. Installed @kde on top of #PopOS and it's already feeling like a completely different system. 🙂

Only trouble is, however, is that all but 4 of my #Diigo bookmarks have completely disappeared from the web app, even though they're still there in the mobile version! 🤔
