This is a mindblowing technique and I'm in awe at the skill and patience of the people doing this craft.

🎉 Wow, a dusty old loom is going to rewrite history! 🕸️ Who knew ancient threading could be so revolutionary? 🚀 Meanwhile, our ancestors just hoped for pants that didn’t itch. 🌾✨

A fire in Bronze Age Spain ~1450 BC destroyed a settlement — and accidentally preserved something almost never found: the actual wooden frame of a loom, still loaded with weights. New study in Antiquity reconstructs it. #Archaeology #BronzeAge #TextileHistory https://www.anthropology.net/p/a-bronze-age-loom-preserved-by-fire

Fascinating story of a man I've never heard before

I've been trying to learn more about the history/origins of #NeedleFelting (making three dimensional objects with wool by tucking or "felting" the fibers together with a needle, often barbed for the purpose).
Any #TextileHistory wizzes or #historian who knows more about this?
It seems so new, but why?

With working out how to restore my old Singer sewing machine I learned quite a bit about the mechnics of those machines - they are technical marvels.
Now I finally understand how a chain stitch machine works.

Found a treasure today.
While searching through my craft supplies I found a bag with the last pieces of #handwoven linen from my great (great?) grandmother. I'm not exactly sure if it was my dad's grandma or even a generation before, but family legend says it was handwoven by I've of my ancestors.
Two of the pieces are about large enough to make a small sofa pillow from them, the third is about double the size.

A remarkable testament to the resilience of Wari craftsmanship, this textile fragment reveals the intricate artistry and symbolism of a culture deeply connected to its environment. What stories lie within its faded patterns?

As I'm restoring my grandma's old sewing machine I watched a ton of YouTube about vintage machines.
The history of sewing machines is really interesting. Finally I understand how a chain stitch machine worked.

A very sad, heartbreaking story - I've never before heard of those forced sterilisations. I knew that Fujimori was a monster, but this detail member made it into the mainstream in Germany.

I already boosted this video yesterday, when I'd only watched a few minutes.
But this is so, so much better than I thought. It's powerful, beautifully told and very sobering. Very US centric (because of course, Evie is from the US and because a lot of the current problems are because of what's going on over there).
Yarn and textile is the vehicle, but it's about so much more.

🧵 Read the alt texts of the photos above about the #yarn's history. Here you can learn more about the history of this "more glossy than silk" patent: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayon
This #emboidery #floss was a hype since 1905/1910 ... and we can imagine that some of the governesses who had the misfortune to be on board, used it for #embroideries in the luxury rooms of the #Titanic.

I was at this #GatherFiberSymposium event yesterday, and we all yearned to be at the protest. But I will say that hanging with artists was really good for my soul. Artists are taking no shit.
Anyway: so many great events coming this month if you like textile arts. And our #IpswichLace event made the #Boston Globe today.

#WIPWednesday and my experiments in reproduction lace continue.
I'm trying to replicate the lace from this baby cap in the MFA #Boston. but I don't know how wide it actually is. So I'm testing out some versions.
