  1. Finally got around to starting my part of the embroidery/woodwork collaboration I’m doing with @bob. I don’t have a plan for what comes next; I’m just doing what seems like it might be interesting.

Threads I’ve used so far are DMC soft cotton and DMC variegated floss. (I expect bob will probably reply to give details of the wood bit.)

The overall idea was inspired by seeing an article about Nosheen Iqbal’s embroidery-on-wood in the March/April 2026 issue of Embroidery magazine (NB there is more than one Nosheen Iqbal on social media — this one is noshii on Instagram).

  6. I love weaving—and the history of fabrics is deeply tied to computing!

From the Jacquard loom (which used punch cards to automate patterns) to early computers like IBM's, textile technology laid the foundation for modern computing. Even Ada Lovelace recognized the loom's punch cards as an early form of programming.

This art by Irene Posch and Ebru Kurbak embroidered 8-bit computers into textiles—beautiful and thoughtful work that bridges craft and code.

  7. Digging out stuff in my craft room, here’s my smocking pleater. I was gifted this by an aunt in the 90s. She was making art-to-wear jackets for upscale craft shows. I was in grad school, studying textile design. I got all manner of materials leftover and gizmos she tried.

She knew I was really into Ana Lisa Hedstrom’s work, and passed this pleater to me. I made a few gorgeous experiments but it’s a fussy device and replacement needles seem to only come from Australia.

  9. "Artists play an important role because story is not only communicated through words.

"A painting, a song, a film, a beadwork pattern, or an installation can carry forms of knowledge that are felt before they are intellectually understood.

"Art can create emotional and sensory pathways, allowing people to encounter connection rather than simply being told about it."
