Digging out stuff in my craft room, here’s my smocking pleater. I was gifted this by an aunt in the 90s. She was making art-to-wear jackets for upscale craft shows. I was in grad school, studying textile design. I got all manner of materials leftover and gizmos she tried.
She knew I was really into Ana Lisa Hedstrom’s work, and passed this pleater to me. I made a few gorgeous experiments but it’s a fussy device and replacement needles seem to only come from Australia.

The wild card union suit shrunk so much that the crotch went from down at my knees to up to my actual crotch! The arms are a bit too long and the legs a bit more than that, but I can get away with it.
Caftan shrunk up so the the hem is just above the floor and I can walk without stepping on it. Nehru coat is tea length. Sleeves on both can do with a bit of hemming but that's easy.
Now for the hard part: I have to make up my mind about how I'm going to dye these things.
