  3. Imagine standing before a massive granite slab in the middle of a Swedish forest.

Look closely into the rock. Etched into its smooth surfaces are ships, weapon-wielding warriors, and mystical symbols nearly four thousand years old.

These are the rock carvings of Tanum.

  5. 🏺 The Trojan War didn't happen the way Homer described it. No wooden horse, no 10-year siege, no gods on the battlefield. But the city of Troy was very real.

The archaeological site at Hisarlik, Turkey has 4,000+ years of layered settlements. Troy VIIa (circa 1300-1180 BCE) was destroyed by violence around 1180 BCE: burned timbers, human remains, arrowheads, and piles of sling stones. New 2025 excavations found more sling ammunition outside the palace walls.

Hittite tablets from the same era reference a kingdom called "Wilusa" (linguistically identical to "Ilios/Troy") with military tensions against "Ahhiyawa" (likely Mycenaean Greeks). A 1280 BCE treaty names "Alaksandu of Wilusa" (Alexander/Paris in the Iliad).

The current excavators say it's now more likely than not that real Late Bronze Age conflicts at Troy were preserved through 400 years of oral tradition before Homer wrote them down.

  9. "The #discovery also calls into question previous assumptions that female burials found with grave goods must have necessarily been the wives of important men, he said.

“This subverts the idea that #women or females in these societies couldn’t be powerful in their own right and special in their own right,” he added.

Booth also underlined that the fact that the woman found in #UptonLovell was taller than average for the time — closer in height to the average #BronzeAge man, at around 5 foot 4 inches — meant it was plausible for previous research to conclude that she was male."

  11. 3,400-year-old gold diadems from Cyprus reveal Bronze Age trade across the ancient Mediterranean

Golden diadems and gold mouthpieces found in Bronze Age tombs on Cyprus offer a rare look at life in one of the ancient world’s busiest trading centers. 15. One thing I have learned after watching a bunch of newer videos about the bronze age collapse, the Trojan war and the late bronze age in general is that it seems to have existed a trade embargo between Hatti and Mycenaean Greece for at least a generation around 1200 BCE. At least from reading Hittite letters scolding local kings for daring to break said embargo and trading with the Mycenaeans.
