Der Alpakaschal ist fertig gewebt. Jetzt muss er nur noch gewaschen werden. Er kann käuflich erworben werden: Der nächste Winter wird kommen.

She does some beautiful and rare dye techniques-- purples and blues from lichens and fungus, dyes that change colour in sunlight, etc. (Book has a big ole ethics section, as you should expect with foraging and especially lichens.)

Visited the #AmericanSwedishInstitute today for the exhibit "Handwoven: Between Chaos and Order" by Emelie Röndahl. She weaves "rya", a form of weaving that results in a sheepskin-like appearance. Traditionally the fuzzy side was down for warmth while the decoration was more legible on the flat side, but Röndahl plays with this convention. Here's both sides of a large work. One artifact of photographing the work is the contrast of the flat side is heightened-- it is more subtle to the unassisted eye.

I just had a series of conversations where I learned Home Economics classes are apparently not a universal experience for my peers. I think maybe it's part of why I've had such a hard time living with folks, because I thought we all had the same education on basic life-skills, and I was the only one who gave enough of a rip to wash the dishes the right way.

I also didn't know it was considered regressive (when it was considered at all), as I thought it was part of an initiative to make sure folks knew how to do basic life-skills, regardless of gender.

Scored a really cool find at the thrift store yesterday - a 75x80cm crocheted Virgin Mary in a frame - for $15! I can feel the finger and wrist pain of whoever made it just by looking at it. There is no way I was letting her go anywhere, but to a house that fully appreciates the craft (not so much the lore though)!

I got a #Janome sewing machine for a project I'm doing making a community quilt with older queer adults and wow, it is a 100x better than a heavy duty Singer machine.

Too bad the machine will belong to my research lab when I'm done and not to me 😭

Quilt top nearly done! The colours feel very seasonally appropriate, though I started it in May when they definitely weren’t. I’m calling this Exploding Pineapple Pizza (it’s a pineapple block pattern, & homage to #CBC ).

I’m always amazed that a bunch of frenetic blocks calm right down in a plain border.

I’m going to use an old bedsheet as filling, both bc #ZeroWaste & for spring/fall when the duvet is too much.

Almost all of them embroider traditional patterns in cross stitch. I have to be stubborn again and immortalise myself in #moss. The preparations for #stitching #moss.
