  1. Also, in regards to cross-border payments via QR like #DuitNow and #PromptPay ; I know scanning their (merchant) QR for payments work - as mentioned, I’ve only been using #TnG eWallet for this bcos as far as I’m aware, their rates are more competitive than my bank’s (#Maybank). #ShopeePay ‘s doesn’t seem to work, as far as I can tell.

However these have only worked in instances where I’m the one scanning their QR - in one of the (7E) vending machines I’ve seen in
#Thailand that supports PromptPay, whereby they scan your QR (instead of the other way around), it’s not worked with my TnG eWallet QR - tho I reckon it’s bcos only the scanning part of TnG is DuitNow-compatible, while the QR it provides ‘to be scanned’, is not.

Quite a headache lol - I imagine it might work if I use my Maybank QR code instead? tho I’ve not tried. Maybank’s conversion rate is pretty shit tho. Prior to my travel, I’ve found and ranked the best currency conversion rate (for THB) is, from best to worst: My local money changer (bizarre, right?) > Wise > TnG eWallet > Maybank.

I might test/investigate this further, later. If the ‘being scanned’ part of the cross-border QR payment method works with my bank’s QR - cool. If that too does not work, then this cross-border QR payment thing’s insufficient (i.e. if it only works when we’re the one scanning the merchant’s QR).

  6. Speaking of #Valve and payment processors - I just realised yesterday that #Steam supports a lot of our local payment methods like #ShopeePay, #TnGeWallet, and #GrabPay.

  7. I’ve mentioned this before long ago, #ShopeePay is way better than #TnGeWallet - even when it was part of the #Shopee app, more so now that it’s become a standalone #eWallet app. As ‘simplistic’ as its UI is, its UX is swell and easy to use.

It doesn’t bombard you with a ton of features/functionalities most people wouldn’t ever need from a ‘simple’ eWallet, you can topup as lil as 1 MYR rather than TnG’s ridiculous 20 MYR minimum (any lower, you’ll need to use
#DuitNow), and its QR payment system to send/receive is completely compatible with DuitNow.

TnG’s (QR) for example do not support sending money to
#Maybank’s (or presumably any other bank’s) DuitNow QR for personal accounts for whatever reason, only merchant’s. Heck, even their face recognition system for verification purposes works way better and more reliably than #TouchNGo’s. ShopeePay only needs dark mode, #ApplePay and #GooglePay as payment methods for topup (which are already supported on Shopee itself but somehow missing here), and it’s golden.

    Majulah Singapura.

Well, my usual* wallet does have enough cash, fortunately. 😁

It's just weird because I normally use my #creditcard for any place that will take card payments, and I don't carry much #cash. I don't feel safe making trips to the #ATM. The less I use those machines, the better and safer, me thinks. So I like to save my cash for places where they don't have other payment options.

    #Google / #Apple Pay is not a thing here. We have #GrabPay #Maya #Gcash #ShopeePay.

    #Philippines #QRph

  9. And I went to the supermarket and asked if they take digital wallet payments... #Maya #GrabPay #ShopeePay etc.

But they only take card, cash or #Gcash.

Well, I left my wallet at home and I hate Globe.

    Oh well... 🤷‍♀️

Is there an extra charge to paying with #QRph or is it the same as paying via an #eWallet's own QR code?
    #GrabPay #Maya #ShopeePay #Gcash
