GCash To Implement In-App OTPs On June 22, 2026

GCash, the popular mobile payments service and electronic wallet, will implement the in-app, one-time password (OTP) feature on June 22, 2026, according to a business news report by GMA News. The move is a serious attempt to prevent digital fraud.

Globe-backed fintech GCash is rolling out an in-app one-time password (OTP) feature beginning June 22, 2026.

The security upgrade replaces text-based codes with OTPs delivered directly within the mobile application. To prevent any disruption to transactions and account activities, GCash is urging users to ensure that their device’s push notifications are fully enabled.

GCash said the move is in line with the directive of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to phase out SMS-based OTPs by June 30, 2026.

The measure also supports the enforcement of the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), which aims to strengthen cybersecurity safeguards and curb the growing incidence of digital fraud, GCash said.

• The machines are limited to how much they can handle per coin. Luckily, all I brought were anything below 25 ¢. I couldn't use larger value coins since its capacity is already all used up

• #PayMaya seems to require an verified account an involves a few extra steps. I only have their e-wallet, which I almost never use. I opted to send my trove to a #Gcash account, and the machine simply needs a #Globe number.

I bought a new phone, the LCD on my old is not responsive anymore. Tried to login on gcash. But the app prompts me to logout on my old phone. How can I do that if the phone is already dead?

Well, my usual* wallet does have enough cash, fortunately. 😁

It's just weird because I normally use my #creditcard for any place that will take card payments, and I don't carry much #cash. I don't feel safe making trips to the #ATM. The less I use those machines, the better and safer, me thinks. So I like to save my cash for places where they don't have other payment options.

So, I was verified on Gcash for a long time using my tourist immigration card.

Now I’m married and have a probationary resident immigration card, but for some reason, gcash listed me as unverified and will not take my new immigration card.

It’s actually rejected by the app, it doesn’t even get submitted. I have some friends with diplomatic immigration cards and they can’t get verified either.

So, is there a good alternative to gcash that I can try to use?
