Luin Robert Crumbin harhaiset tarinat. Viime vuonna julkaisemansa tilityssikermä oli – no, kahdeksankymppistä Robert Crumbia. Ei tässä paksujalkaisia amatsoneja enää odoteltu.
Nuoret ei välttämättä tajuu. Lähes neljä vuotta leskenä eläneen starban sitkas maailmankaulinta näyttäytyy heille(kin) vanhan ukkelin rokotevastaisena horinana, harhoina. Korona-aika oli meille faneille tiukka koettelemus, mutta Crumb pääsi, ja pääsee viimeistään tämän myötä, kuiville: miksi häneltä olisi pandemia-aikanakaan pitänyt odottaa myötäilyä suuren rahan rakenteille? Ja o n h a n lääkebisnes käsittämättömän valtava, kyseenalaistamatonkin.
Sanottavaa ja lueteltavaa on, tekstiruudut saavat ylivallan. Lukemista ei mielestäni kuitenkaan kannata jättää kesken: kankean alun jälkeen tarinointi notkistuu hieman, ja eihän vanhan jäärän ruuduille, jotka hän oli jo kauan halunnut piirtää valmiiksi, voi olla heltymättä.
Kuivakkuus karkoittaa takuulla noviisit, mutta onneksi mestari sai tehdä tämän testamentaalisen monologinsa. Hän osoittaa palonsa pallotella maailmamme järjettömiä mekanismeja säilyvän loppuun saakka.
Tässä on tärkeän sinetin fiilis. 🥲

The Life and Death of Fritz the Cat
Back in January, The Life and Death of Fritz the Cat saw its first ever re-release for the first time since the original publication of the title back in the 90s.
For those who aren’t aware of the book; The Life and Death of Fritz the Cat comprises of every Fritz the Cat comic strip that Robert Crumb has released, from the early Fritz Sketchbook Strips to the infamous 1972 strip, Fritz the Cat Superstar which saw Fritz killed off by an ex-girlfriend of his with an icepick.
Fritz the Cat had two animated films; the 1972 movie that was based on several Fritz the Cat Comic Strips that were adapted for the film, and the 1974 sequel, The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat, a non-linear storyline which was not based on any Fritz the Cat Comic Strips.
I purchased the Paperback reissue a while back, it’s a great collection of every single Fritz the Cat Comic Strip that’s been released. Since the comics are adults only, I would recommend the book to you 🙂

I started reading Arcade the Comics Revue issue no. 1 from 1975 edited by Bill Griffith and Art Spiegelman and likely known for contributions from Robert Crumb. On the final page is Victor Moscoso's “Mystic Comics Part 1” which has a character that I found immediately familiar. I tried to find some citation that this was an inspiration for Benny the Cab from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, but had no luck. Don't ask me to explain what you're seeing. The three-panel toon is quite abstract, and the speech bubbles appear to be deliberately blank.

@ScottSa Because of the kind of crazy I am, I had to research the original Robert Crumb illustration behind this and so many similar memes. Turns out it's called "Bring Me Your Love", and it dates from 1983. The caption is said to be a quote from beat poet Charles Bukowski:
"....SHE BROUGHT HER RIGHT HAND UP, LOOKED AT IT, CLENCHED IT INTO A FIST AND PUNCHED HERSELF SQUARELY IN THE NOSE, HARD."
