  1. Marilyn #Monroe died on this day in 1962. Shortly after, Charles #Bukowski wrote:

    now your night is darker

    than the candle’s reach

    and we will forget you,

    somewhat,

    and it is not kind

    but real bodies are nearer

    and as the worms pant

    for your bones,

I would so like to tell you

    that this happens to bears

    and elephants.

    to tyrants and heroes

    and ants and frogs,

    still, you brought us something,

    some type of small victory,

and for this I say: good

    and let us grieve no more;

like a flower dried and thrown away,

    we forget, we remember,

    we wait. child, child, child,

I raise my drink a full minute

    and smile.

(Charles Bukowski, for marilyn m, Burning in Water Drowning in Flame)

  4. A quotation from Charles Bukowski

Having many cats is good. If you feel bad, you look at the cats and you feel better, because they know that everything is just the way it is. You don’t have to be nervous about anything. And they know it. They are saviors. The more cats you have, the longer you will live. If you have a hundred cats, you will live ten times longer than if you have ten. One day, this will be known and people will have thousands of cats. It’s truly ridiculous.

  5. Can you imagine Sisyphus as a happy man?

Did the gods accidentally give him joy and meaning hidden in his never-ending focus?

Or is this a grand deception, and the recipe for a factotum?

  6. I'm actually on the tram to come and introduce myself right now.

Applied online then immediately got on a tram. The employer called while I was en route. Three weeks into a job, I'd already documented every incident, flipped the script on HR, and watched my manager squirm. I haven't eaten lunch. That's okay.

I listen to Bukowski's Go All The Way as I walk through South Yarra. The leaves are falling. I'm crying. And I'm going all the way.

  7. 1971 And Counting

Today is my birthday! And so I wrote a poem about being alive for open link day and fellow poets at Dverse. Enjoy!

  9. After countless trials, books, web searches, and some brutal advice from my Bukowski AI, I finally built a custom IoT hotspot from scratch using Buildroot 😎

No more pre-packaged garbage. I filter insecure connections myself. Total control 💪🏻

The first prototype works... mostly 😆

Now comes the real torture: testing and refining 🫩

Maybe I'll even try to sell this thing 🤑

  10. Just built a custom AI assistant trained on Charles Bukowski’s rawest works. It doesn’t offer comfort, just cold truths and a glass of cheap wine.

Currently testing it from a noisy suburban bar surrounded by the usual bar flies. If it starts cursing at the patrons, I’ll know it’s working.

  11. "That was certainly Bukowski, who went to his high school the night of the prom and hid in the bushes to watch through the windows as the ‘little ladies and gentlemen’ sipped punch and danced — before he was run off by the night watchman."

  12. "...the best writers are the ones who were on the sidelines during their youth, observers, not fawned-over popular doers. Not the prom king and queen, not the quarterback throwing the winning pass at the big game, but the timid or the brutish losers and outcasts who spent their high school years invisible or shunned."

  13. Charles Bukowski: The icon of dirty realism. He crafted a legacy from the grit of marginalized life, stripping away pretense to expose reality in its rawest form. Through his alter ego Henry Chinaski, he navigated fame, carnal honesty, and emotional void. His "Don't Try" philosophy remains a stark reminder: true authenticity only emerges when we stop performing for others.

  14. Being on the ground like a forgotten tree has one advantage: there is nowhere left to fall. In Bukowski's gritty beauty, we learn that accepting our emptiness is what allows us to stop decorating our own misery. Less fake lights, more real fire: only when you stop pretending to shine can you truly begin to burn.

  17. I don't recommend either of the Bukowski movies to people not because they are bad cause they actually are both pretty good but because I fundamentally reject Henry Chinaski being played by good looking men. Not my Chinaski.

  20. 3/
they bathe and splash in their
    unhappiness,
    they splash it upon you.

    it’s all they have.
    it’s all they want.
    it’s all they can be.

you must refuse to join them.
    you must remain yourself.
    you must open the curtains
    or the blinds
    or the windows
    to the gentle light.
    to joy.
    it’s there in life
    and even in death
    it can be
    there.
