According to Statistics Canada (Dec 2020), approximately one in seven Canadians (14.6%) were living in a food-insecure household in May 2020. #FoodInsecurity is also a cause associated with poorer nutrition as well as a variety of physical and mental health issues.

SNIWWOC is providing a #FoodSecurity program for #LowIncome #RacializedWomen including #transgender and #TwoSpirit community members. This program is intended to offset costs of monthly #groceries, not to cover all costs.

Eligible clients will receive the decided amount of gift cards to one of the grocery stores. We are committed to supporting vulnerable women in our community, such as single mothers and newcomers who are sometimes isolated.

    ELIGIBILITY

  9. 💛 From the @TheDailyEdge article “Talking to White People About Racism”

Not so long ago, if parents disagreed with a specific lesson, they had the option to keep their child home from school that day. They still have that right. They should exercise it.

  13. I need wisdom from the #Fediverse! I've mostly ignored the bird site since last fall, but am now handling social media for an #impactinvesting nonprofit focused on #racialequity, and I notice that despite having a 1500+ following, our bird site impressions (and also FB) are in the double digits. So 2 questions:
    1) Is that just the way it is now, no pay, no eyeballs?
    2) Is there a Mastodon instance that's building a community of leftie finance/#solidarityeconomy folks?
    Thanks all!

Curious to know which books and/or organizations shaped your #SocialJustice and #RacialEquity lens

Looking at this book list from antiraciststarterpack.com/

The first book I read on #RaceConscious perspectives was #RaceMatters from #CornelWest

I typically recommend #HowToBeAnAntiRacist by #IbramXKendi to folks who are new to learning about #antiracism and #WeDoThisTilWeFreeUs by #MariameKaba for folks who are learning about #CommunityOrganizing with an #abolitionist lens

The orgs I recommend following to learn the basics around social justice issues are #MovementForBlackLives #M4BL #NDNCollective #ShowingUpForRacialJustice #SURJ #CriticalResistance and so many others
