9.3 Solarpunk Presents: Appropedia & Appropriate Technology with Felipe Schenone
Have you ever heard of appropriate technology? It's all about the type of technology that is accessible to most people regardless of their expertise, from its creation to its use and repair, inclusive and appropriate for various environments. The website Appropedia is a wiki-style repository of knowledge with more than 4,000 projects detailed on the site, each relating to sustainability, accessibility, and inclusion. The articles emphasize DIY utility and teach visitors how to understand each project, rather than presenting technologies that the end user, not being a specialist, isn't sure how they work, how to replicate them, or how to repair them, and instead are simply told to buy in order to 'keep up' with technological progress. Appropedia is all about technology built with justice. How cool is that? We also have a segment testing a few solarpunk tech ideas for appropriateness just to get a better sense of how the definition can be applied!
