For no reason (not true), I accidentally (a lie) started playing the PSX version of #QuakeII, which was ported to the re-release version: https://www.nexusmods.com/quake2/mods/50

I had played it before on an emulator. I guess I’m in the mood for something familiar – it’s very close to the original #Quake2 campaign — but not too familiar and comfortable. Yes, that violent and somewhat problematic game is comfortable to me. A lot.

I’ve written about Q2 quite a bit, I’m not going to bother with more.

Experience the weirdness of AI Quake II. It's like playing a dream of a game. I love all the weird, surreal artifacts. Enemies phase in and out of existence. You move your mouse and suddenly appear in a different part of the map. And the controls are terrible. But! I also marvel at how coherent the spaces are. A while back, I read about Google recreating Doom as a playable internal demo, that they never released. I gotta give props to Microsoft for making this demo available. It's fascinating stuff.

I played a quick run of remastered Quake II, and I keep finding really pleasant the new episodes they often make these days as new content for those enhanced versions of old FPSs. It's always super interesting to see the differences in level and game design between og game and decades later add-ons.
