Peer testing

De Dateleedshow
Arti et Amicitiae, Friday, May 22 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
Last year, a new tradition was spontaneously launched at Arti! On April 11, “De Dateleedshow” took place. Willy van der Griendt, author of the book “Daten voor gevorderden” (Dating for Advanced Users), was interviewed, during which many aspects of the hectic dating landscape were discussed. After the break, attendees had the opportunity to practice “quality encounters.” A prolonged speed-dating session emerged and became increasingly lively, to the point that Arti’s chairman Jeroen Werner exclaimed: “This is so surprising—we should do this much more often!”
On May 22, we aim to grant that wish. In Dateleedshow 2.0, Hans Kuiper will be in conversation with Willy van der Griendt, this time elevating the interview to a more serious level. The phenomenon of dating deserves it. “Live life to the fullest—but preferably not alone. Or perhaps alone, but not lonely. How do you do that?”
Now that people in the West are living longer (women on average 83.3 years and men 80.7), we want to raise the question of whether this longer life makes us happier or instead causes deep concerns. How do older people form friendships, and do they still do so? Is there still a plan, or is growing old something you simply have to undergo? Are artists different in this respect, perhaps even privileged, because they can work until their last breath and often “die in harness”? Or is growing older, in this individualistic society, simply frightening for everyone?
In addition to an in-depth interview, there will be visual material, a quiz, and a Q&A session. After the break, participants can once again gather at the long tables, where they can freely date and flirt without inhibition.
Hans Kuiper is an artist member of Arti et Amicitiae, creates performative installations, and is the initiator of Kunstruimte 411. He writes, among others, for Articula and is a former board member. See www.hanskuiper.com for more information about his projects.
Willy van der Griendt (1950) is an actress, singer, and author. She has performed in numerous theatre productions, television series, and films, and writes for the newspaper Trouw. In 2024, her book Dating for Advanced Users was published, a personal account of an older person in search of a final love. More information can be found at www.willyvandergriendt.nl

Out of the Picture
Pakhuis de Zwijger, Wednesday, June 10 at 07:30 PM GMT+2
Would the ladies please move out of the picture so we can have the architects?Where are the female architects? Women have passionately and skillfully created architectural works for centuries. History seems to have forgotten them... or have they been conscientiously erased from a male-dominated profession? The film Out of the Picture goes in search of these women, exploring their history and their outlook; it investigates why and how women have been excluded from the honour roll of architecture, and how they now are reclaiming visibility. Join us on for a screening of Out of the Picture, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
Together with An. Ash Smolar Artist, activist, filmmaker, architect & editor of a feminist magazineAbout the film
Out of the Picture is a compelling documentary by An. Ash Smolar that sheds light on a persistent blind spot in architectural history: the structural invisibility of women. Although women have shaped cities, designed buildings, and contributed to the evolution of architecture for centuries, their names and work have often been excluded from official narratives. Through the voices, works, and life stories of more than twenty architects, as well as historians and researchers, the film reveals the mechanisms behind this exclusion; from missing archives and historiography to wage inequality, glass ceilings, and the dominance of male professional networks. Blending archival material, interviews, and animated sequences, the documentary not only uncovers erased histories but also foregrounds the strategies and solidarities through which women are reclaiming their place in the discipline today. Ultimately, Out of the Picture raises a critical question: who gets to be seen, remembered, and included in the architectural canon, and how can that frame be expanded?

🎬 Chorras (2025) + Q&A
Filmhuis Cavia, Sunday, June 21 at 08:30 PM GMT+2
Mario Monzó, Lourdes Porras, Marcos Valiente | 2025 | Spain | 82’ | EN subtitles
In a small town in Extremadura, Spain, terrible events are taking place: someone has been going around cutting off wieners. Sergeant Montaña, head of the local Guardia Civil station, is facing the longest and most vein-filled case she has ever seen in her life. Luckily, or unfortunately, a new and mysterious blind detective arrives, and they will somehow have to work together.
Chorras is a rural surrealist mystery comedy filmed and produced entirely by the inhabitants of Acehúche, a small Spanish village. It is a rare example of authentic collective filmmaking, in which the entire village came together to make a movie about someone cutting off penises.
Director Mario Monzó will join us after the screening for a Q&A about the making of the film.

AmsFF x Uitkijk
De Uitkijk, Friday, May 29 at 06:30 PM GMT+2
Every year, a group of passionate student volunteers organize and produce the Amsterdam Student Film Festival (AmsFF) to provide visibility for aspiring artists and, in the process, foster a community of young people across Amsterdam who are passionate about film.
AmsFF began in 2022 when six Amsterdam University College students recognized an absence of platforms for student work and decided to create one from the ground up, with virtually no funding or formal structure. Now, three years later, the festival is independent from academic institutions and is composed of an even larger team of volunteers from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds, all excited to create the most ambitious edition of AmsFF yet.
The festival will take place May 29th to 31st across five independent Amsterdam venues: FC Hyena, De Uitkijk, Het Documentaire Paviljoen, LAB111 and Droog. As in previous years, a jury of diverse film industry professionals will work to screen the short films and provide feedback for the filmmakers. Audience members will also be able to interact with the filmmakers at select screenings.
Welcome to the opening Night of Amsterdam Student Film Festival 2026!!
Farewell to The Moving Clocks
The dismantlement of the empty homogenous time gives way to the proliferation of multiple temporalities — a cinema that refuses to conform and converge. Eight films present different strategies of intervening the dominant mode of time, be it absurdist theatricality, formalistic experimentation, essayistic narration, or DIY intermedial montage. At the edge of form and intelligibility burst a shock to thought, to bid Farewell to The Moving Clocks and look forward to a world beyond this time.Program (68 min):

Sprouts: Hair, Paper, Water... (2025)
De Uitkijk, Thursday, June 4 at 09:00 PM GMT+2
Amid the pressures of globalisation, nature and minority languages are in steep decline. In rural Vietnam, an elderly woman from the Rục community teaches her great-grandson to value both. Directors Graux and Trương capture this exchange in a tactile, deeply immersive style, evoking a vivid sense of place and a world already slipping from view. A meditative 16mm gem, recalling Samsara (2023).
This film is with a Q&A with the filmmakers, together with Asian Movie Night.
For five editions now, the team behind Sprouts has developed a recurring platform for fictional ecocinema and socially critical debut films. We have steadily grown into an interdisciplinary film festival, now present across six venues in three of Amsterdam’s city districts: Studio/K, Kriterion, De Uitkijk, Droog, MidWest, and QRU.
While a five-year anniversary calls for celebration, each day we are reminded of why we felt the need for a festival like Sprouts in the first place. Autocrats, tech bros, and far-right factions continue to wreak havoc on our planet, disrupting ecosystems and undermining international law and human dignity. This is why we cherish the brave filmmakers of our 2026 edition so deeply: they defy systems to share bold, uncompromising visions. We also support the shaping of a new generation of green storytellers by hosting our very first Sprouts Eco Shorts Pitch and Industry Day.
From 1 - 7 June, let us focus on bringing people together and inspiring one another to resist. Whether by visiting our free Eco Expo, joining our community dinners, attending outdoor screenings, supporting our fundraiser for Sudan, or simply watching a film together. For more information on the festival and our full programme, visit https://sproutsfilmfestival.com/ and follow us on Instagram @sproutsfilmfestival.
