Just tested TLP on a ThinkCentre M920q (i5-8500T, 35W TDP) running Proxmox: idle power dropped from 18W to 12W with TLP bat mode + runtime PM on NVMe + intel_powersave governor. That is a 33% reduction. The settings that matter most:
1. CPU_SCALING_GOVERNOR_ON_AC=performance (when plugged in)
2. CPU_SCALING_GOVERNOR_ON_BAT=powersave
3. RUNTIME_PM_ON_BAT=auto (PCIe power management)
4. DISK_APM_LEVEL_ON_BAT=128 (HDD spin-down)
5. WiFi power_save on (offload off for latency-sensitive apps)Combined with C6 sleep state enabled in BIOS, the box idles at 11-13W. That is barely more than a Raspberry Pi 5 with 3x the compute. SFF/NUC + TLP is the sweet spot for 24/7 homelab.

I just released version 1.10.2 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool. It provides a bug fix that restores the ability to set the charge threshold on ASUS laptops. This feature was broken by a change in kernel 7.1.

Following a successful beta phase, version 1.10.0 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool has been completed and published today.
You can now choose the profile to use for automatic switching. For example, you may set it to balanced on AC and power-saving on battery power.
Support for power profiles and frequency limits on Intel Xe/Arc GPUs has been added, charge thresholds work with newer kernels and additional hardware.

I have just released version 1.9.0 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool.
Enjoy the brand new #tlp-pd (TLP Profiles Daemon) for easy profile switching with a mouse click!
tlp-pd replaces #power-profiles-daemon by implementing the same D-Bus API that major Linux desktop environments like GNOME, KDE and Cinnamon already use.

I have just released version 1.9.0-beta.1 of the #TLP #Linux #powersaving tool.
The key innovation in this release is the new Profiles Daemon. #tlp-pd enables you to conveniently switch between performance (AC), balanced (BAT) and power-saving (SAV) settings profiles from your Linux desktop environment and replaces #power-profiles-daemon.
Please take part in the beta test. I look forward to seeing your results.

Sleep mode and Hibernate mode are both power-saving options in Windows, but they work differently. Sleep stores your session in RAM and uses a little power for quick resume. Hibernate saves data to the hard drive, uses no power. https://windows101tricks.com/hibernate-vs-sleep-mode/

This update is live NOW! (non-beta!)
Of course, being a fan of power-saving and efficiency, I immediately activated it.
It seems none of my currently installed games support it, though. (games have to actively support it so there's a proper way to downscale whatever saving they can use.)
So, looking forward to tech YouTube channels with actual comparisons.
I don't think many people will actually enable this setting, but I'll gladly give it a try!

@gurkan seeing weird sub-2-minute behaviour here as well. Haven't figured out yet why. Blamed #KDEPlasma first, but there weren't any changes to its configuration.

@ProtoDrew
This reminds us of a problem we've heard about. Look into the #powerSaving measures. Search "#wifi #ubuntu power-saving" maybe "intermittant" also. There are step-by-step articles out there that explore many reasons. Look for the power-saving one.
We have our fingers crossed for you.
