Easily Toggle Ubuntu’s New Wellbeing Reminders On/Off
The Wellbeing controls available in Ubuntu 25.04 make it easy to get periodic prompts to move your butt or look away from your screen — you might not want them enabled all the time, though. Wellbeing controls were one of the flagship features of GNOME 48. As well as screen time monitoring (with controls to set a screen time limit, and turn the display greyscale when it’s reached), you can enable reminders to take a break and move. Alerts telling you to get up and move may be helpful during the day, but at nighttime when you’re, say, engrossed in :sys_more_orange:

Mehr Informationen beim Kopieren und Löschen unter #GNOME48 gibt es nicht. Offenbar ist Informationsgehalt inzwischen ein optionales Feature.
Wirklich bedauerlich, dass man hier wieder einmal den Sparmodus aktiviert hat. Und wie so oft stellt sich mir erneut die ewige Frage an die Entwickler:Was genau war da eigentlich der Gedankengang?

GNOME 48 Expands Core Apps With New Audio Player
When GNOME 48 is released in March it will debut with a brand-new audio player. Per a recent merge request, Decibels graduates from GNOME Incubator to GNOME Core Apps as part of GNOME 48, making the software something GNOME recommends downstream Linux distributions include to give users a fully-featured GNOME experience. You may be familiar with or even using Decibels already. I wrote about the app in late 2023, and it’s been available to install from Flathub for almost as long. For anyone not familiar with it, Decibels is a no-frills audio player designed for the GNOME desktop (but can :sys_more_orange:

GNOME’s New Image Viewer is Add Image Editing Features
Loupe (aka Image Viewer) is GNOME’s modern successor to the venerable Eye of GNOME has picked up its first batch of image editing features. The features in question were only recently merged upstream, aren’t finished, and not yet included in a stable build. But they’re an interesting addition that furthers the likelihood that Loupe could become the default image viewer on Ubuntu. At present, Ubuntu continues to use Eye of GNOME as the default tool for opening and browsing image files on desktop, despite Loupe having officially replaced it upstream in the GNOME project as a GNOME Core app. Loupe :sys_more_orange:

GNOME 48: Release Date & Development Schedule
GNOME 47 ‘Denver’ proved a decent update to the GNOME desktop, delivering a hearty dose of new features, UI refinements, and app improvements. So as one release gets pushed out the door, work on the next begins. GNOME 48 ‘Bengaluru‘ (named after the host city of the GNOME Asia Summit taking place in December) is scheduled for release on March 19, 2025. The dates for important development milestones along the way to ensure there’s ample opportunity for implementing and testing of key changes, the necessary “freeze” to solidify the desired set of changes, and then more testing to refine and :sys_more_orange:
