I've been experimenting with SSDs in NVRs for some time now. I put a 2 terabyte WD Red in a Ubiquiti CK2+ and it's been running with 8 camera setup for 27500 hours now, which is around 3+ years.
A lot of people said the drive would wear our almost instantly with all the writing happening, but I've been monitoring the SMART values for the drive's wear and after those 3 years we are at 91% of expected life left. At this pace it will most likely outlive the device, that is actually pretty impressive on its own as it's one of the very early CloudKey 2+ units ever released.
It lived with an actual HDD until the LiPo battery inside decided to become a spicy pillow and I had to take the thing apart. The HDD got upgraded at that point as well.
A year or two after that Ubiquiti released their own SSD based variant, so they also concluded a SSD will probably work in long term as well.

Anybody use Frigate NVR (network video recorder) ?

I had to collect surveillance videos from various of private houses and businesses a lot recently.
I came across a variety of NVRs many of which were a challenge for my nerves and mental health.
Example 1:
Exporting a 15 minute sequence of 2 cameras. After 1.5 hrs the status display switched from 0% to 1%.Example 2:
This specific NVR allowed only to set a starting time for the export. The end time was chosen _randomly_ by the NVR itself. Sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes 1 hour after the start time. The 6 hour span which should be exported was done for 3 cameras in ~15-20 chunks each.I don't know what the developers of such systems were up to ... but while doing the video exports I had thoughts about flogging them in public.

Anybody use Frigate NVR (network video recorder) ?
Any tips or gotchas? Hardware recommendations for "server"? Is the co-processor hardware necessary or just a "nice to have"?

The temporary server rack is coming along nicely. Wiring is a mess - I need to order some short cables, a patch panel and probably a cable organizer - but it works.
My eBay Dell 7070 micro SFF arrived yesterday. It was a bit of a pain getting Debian installed due to UEFI issues. But it’s now up and running with Frigate NVR and connected to my driveway camera.

Just got my home network migrated to VLANs. It took a bit as I had four switches to configure and created VLANs for home, work, IoT, Cameras, and Entertainment (TVs, Rokus, etc.). I think I went a bit overboard, but it was a learning experience.

I've tested multiple #OpenSource #NVR (Network Video Recorder) projects with ONVIF [1] support on the #RaspberryPi 5 (Shinobi, iSpy, Frigate) and so far I only managed to get Frigate to a point where it actually shows a video stream.
I still need to figure out event detection (the camera native one does not seem to trigger anything in Frigate, and I don't want to burn the RPi CPU nor buy an extra Coral USB TPU) before I fully disconnect the camera from "the cloud".
