#SmartHome #Datenschutz #FrigateNVR

I may have ordered a second Coral USB accelerator while talking with a coworker in the office, with the excuse of "better get it before the tariffs kick in". Mostly for use with #FrigateNVR even though I'm still waiting for the doorbell camera I want to come back in stock... (As my Nest reports *again* it's been offline for 10 minutes...)

Finally (!!) learning #Docker stuff. My 2012-2023 job wasn't really amenable. Neither is my current role, but it's used more by the people I deal with. That I found a personal project that uses it (#FrigateNVR or #Frigate) means I immediately benefit, and can apply it at work, too...

I am really happy with #frigateNVR and the coral AI tpu for object detection, there are very view wrong detections, it uses way less cpu/gpu than agent dvr and also fires mqtt events to #HomeAssistant to ask cats not to poop in my lawn. I guess some AI is not half bad

Ran up some services updates and it seems there have been some pretty big ones. HomeAssistant seems to have come with a big database migration. Frigate NVR has a new web interface.
Might have to keep an eye on the Frigate storage. They weren’t too clear on if the storage still follows lifecycle on the media that no longer shows because it’s not part of the new interface.

Finally spent some time fine-tuning #FrigateNVR events with a #Coral USB stick this week...
Either my dog is a shapeshifter or I have some model training to work on.

I fell down a #homelab rabbit hole and I now have a <15W micro server running #homeassistant and #frigatenvr via #proxmox - *with* GPU acceleration for transcoding and object detection. Whole thing runs at 25% CPU usage (on a cheap N95 NUC-alike).

@joconor I'll have to get something written up :)
I started with Microk8s but had issues with nodes dropping (I guess it was a known issue at the time.) Running #k3s and it's been rock solid. #Ubuntu 22.04, #k3s, nfs provisioner for storage (except the master nodes have ssds.)
3 of the nodes have USB ssds, 1 node has a Google Coral TPU for #FrigateNVR , and the last node has a USB SDR for doing monitoring of my power and gas lines for my #HomeAssistant system

Let's see how this #Coral USB Accelerator can speed up the #FrigateNVR object recognition in #homeassistant
