It will be the sixth anniversary of the Quebec City mosque massacre that shook the entire Muslim community in Canada.

Many prisoners don't have access to their Charter right of full chaplaincy care.

This is unfair and must change.

1/ Providing access to spiritual care in our prison systems should be a given.

Yet,

in 2013,

under the Harper government,

federal prison chaplaincy services experienced a major shift.

The government announced that a single private company would be contracted to recruit and oversee chaplains serving in federal institutions.

This was one of the most controversial decisions of the federal government at the time.
