Also seen at the air and space museum visit -- GIANT SPIDER CRAB! 🦀
This, of course, reminded me of our episode on the #zodiac #constellation Cancer where Jordan taught me about how evolution keeps producing #crabs (or more formally carcinisation) 🦀 🦀 🦀
Check out our season 1 episode featuring the #astronomy & #mythology of the constellation Cancer ♋ PLUS a Creature Corner segment about CRABS here: https://starrytimepodcast.podbean.com/e/cancer-the-crab/

Are you kidding me?? I was (quite obsessively) checking the camera earlier and I started remote recording because OMG there's two hedgehogs! And then this happened! 😱 (Looks like they weren't even impressed, lol)

Today I spotted this horde of black and orange intriguing insects devouring a milkweed plant.
I look them up and iNaturalist ids them as “Large Milkweed Bugs”.
Not to be confused with similar looking insects called “False Milkweed Bugs”.
And Wikipedia informs me that “False Milkweed Bugs” primarily feed on “false sunflower” plants, which I did not know were a thing, and so there you go: nature explained.

A macro photo of the blossoms of a Seckel Pear tree.
Somehow this will turn into a piece of fruit I guess? When you start looking at nature close-up it gets even more incomprehensible and amazing.

It's nice to be reminded occasionally why I still love the Internetz!
1. I post a photo of a cool bird (https://mastodon.art/@jeremyosborn/111799531362533280)
2. I looked up said bird (cedar waxwing) to be a good net citizen and name it properly, but otherwise didn't give it a second thought.
3. @ahdchild sees photo and mentions a cool fact about it (https://mastodon.art/@ahdchild/111807198503503450)Now you know that some waxwings have red secretions resembling freaking WAX on their WINGS: hence the dope name.

My friend Nancy and I swam with very BIG whale sharks in Holbox, Mexico yesterday! Quite simply one of the most transcendent experiences I’ve ever had.
It’s hard to get a sense of scale from the video here, but this whale shark is 25-30 feet long.
They are very gentle creatures. I was close enough to to touch the (admittedly huge) back fin.

Found this lone hawk (I think) feather lying in the grass in my backyard. The detail and pattern on this is amazing and a reminder that nature is the most talented artist of them all. Be sure to look at 100% to see the subtle details.

Costasiella kuroshimae (Leaf Sheep, found off the coast of the Japanese island Kuroshima) are capable of a chemical process called kleptoplasty, in which they retain the chloroplasts from the algae they feed on. Absorbing the chloroplasts from algae then enables them to indirectly perform photosynthesis. -
My Mini Pomegranate has 3 survivas!!
