Celebrate Native American Culture at the 2026 Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow in Raleigh
Raleigh residents and visitors are invited to experience one of the Triangle’s most meaningful cultural celebrations as the annual Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow returns to Harvey Hill at Dorothea Dix Park.
Presented in partnership with the Triangle Native American Society, this free community event celebrates the rich history, traditions, and living cultures of Indigenous communities across North Carolina through dance, music, storytelling, art, and cultural education.

The Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow offers an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about and celebrate Native American heritage while enjoying a full day of vibrant performances and community engagement.

Special 2026 Highlights
One of this year’s featured experiences is a special drop-in storytime with Indigenous storyteller, educator, and comic creator Dr. IndigiNerd, Lee Francis IV.
Families and children will have the opportunity to hear stories that celebrate Native traditions, culture, and creativity while learning about Indigenous perspectives through engaging storytelling.

Indigenous leaders say that in the Trump administration's rush to build border walls, contractors are desecrating Native American sacred places and cultural sites at an unprecedented pace, more than 170 years after the international boundary split the territories of dozens of tribes. The White House has devoted $46 billion to wall construction, which has ramped up along the 1,954-mile border even as illegal crossings have fallen to historic lows.

Charlie Toledo presents “Native Americans' Reverent Relationship with Birds” at the April Napa Solano Audubon meeting. Birds play a significant role in Native American cultures, used for food, medicine, art and ceremony. In 1928 the Institute for Government Research did of study of Indian residential schools who ripped children away to indoctrinate them and kill their Native culture. The report called these schools deplorable. The Federal Boarding School Initiative called on the US Federal Government to acknowledge and apologize for their role in the mistreatment of native peoples.
October 25, 2024, almost 100 years later, that apology finally came from Joe Biden.

Of the 4,000 Indigenous languages worldwide, one dies every two weeks and Michael Running Wolf, founder of Indigenous AI, says most Native American languages will be lost within the next decade. Running Wolf leads First Languages AI Reality, where he and his team are building speech recognition models for more than 200 endangered Indigenous languages. @NBCNews talked to him, student engineers Kyra Kaya, who is Native Hawaiian, and Madeline Gupta, who is Chippewa, and Lakota artist Suzanne Kite about their AI projects to preserve and restore the languages, stories and culture.
