#motioneye — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #motioneye, aggregated by home.social.

  1. MotionEye (HA-addon) has become unreliable in recording video fies, it's pretty random if/when it records video, even when set to "continouus recording".
    Going to try frigate, pulling it into TrueNAS directly now.

    @homelab

  2. Can anyone recommend an IP camera for home use that is a) Compatible with MotionEye software, b) powered by PoE, c) has night-vision capability, and d) affordable? Everything I seem to come across seems to want to integrate AI into everything or use somebody else's server/software instead of my own system.

Hauptsach irgendwas. :-/
    Muß ich halt gut nach "draussen" absperren.

  4. @alwirtes people are going to recommend #MotionEye and or #MotionEyeOS but I spent a fruitless month trying to use it to run a #Rpi dash cam and got NOWHERE.

  5. Before someone jumps in to ask "have you tried #MotionEye?

    Yes. it's too old and too unsupported for current #raspberrypi bookworm OS, and the kernel dependencies mean it won't see my camera.

    #MotionEyeOS (which is diff from MotionEye!) is a black box at the command line as far as I can tell, and though I got it running, it doesn't see any camera I have.

  6. @cyclical_obsessive I am STILL in the weeds on this. After getting #MotionEye to see the camera under #raspbian I tweaked the OS and lost the camera to MO.

    Tried redoing what I had done, & no joy. So now I'm trying MotionEyeOS which hasn't been truly updated in 4 years, and appears to not be compatible with the Arducam IMX219 at the kernel level.

    So now I'm probably back to trying raspian again. This $55 worth of hardware will end up with over $2000 of my time in it.

  8. Feeling like I've made some progress this year. I was able to install #samba, #Pihole, #unbound, and #motioneye without the aid of the #dietpi scripts onto my #pi5 running plain raspberry pi os. Unfortunately, my apache/php skills aren't yet up to the task of getting #FreshRSS or #Nextcloud configured by myself. I have all these running on my current #Pi4 server, but replacing it with this #Pi5 is one of my goals this winter break.

  9. Install and setup a video surveillance system in a #raspberrypi with #motioneye. Use your PI camera as a professional, #linux based, motion detection system peppe8o.com/raspberry-pi-motio

  10. I feel dumb. I spent quite a lot of time setting up a security system using #MotionEye on various #RaspberryPi boards with v2 cameras. It has been nearly eight months and I just NOW figure out that the reason pictures record and the videos didn't was because I had the wrong version of #h264 encoding selected. Eight. Months.

    v2.1 bestellt.

    #linux #motioneye

  12. #raspberrypi camera module 3 ist ein totaler Krampf! Vor einem Jahr beiseite gelegt.
    Mal Zeit wieder Zeit anzugreifen.
    Jemand hier Erfahrung? Klappt das inzwischen besser?

    #motioneye #dietpi

  13. How is it so gosh dang hard to get a webcam feed to record and show up on a #raspberrypi? I have a simple USB webcam. VLC can record but not display at the same time. Motion, and it's front-end #motionEye, don't even *see* the camera.

  15. @chartier thanks for making me feel smug about spending no more than 67 hours getting a #raspberrypi #motioneye #homeassistant doorcam working ;)

  16. Perhaps I should move on from #motioneye as my video surveillance software for my #RPi system. I finally get it set up to detect motion and send stills/movies to a central ftp server, but one wonky camera crashes the whole system. I've had to uninstall/reinstall the central system 6 times!

  17. Looks like I am all in for an #RPi based security cam system. #Motioneye has been easy enough to use, and it gives me complete control over my own data. The learning curve was steep, but nearly as high as I had once assumed. Now if I could only use an extra #raspberrypi to build an automatic cat-feeder...

  18. The #Dietpi #rpicam software works just fine with the camera, but #motioneye fails to detect it. C'est la vie, I suppose.

  20. See how I sacrifice my operations security for some Internet Karma.

    Behold my frugal, Yet functional home lab.

    Ivy bridge low power laptop manages , , , About a dozen automation scripts incl. backups.

    Raspberry Pi(s) run redundant instances. Pi zero runs Memory Hammer(Anki).

    Nano runs for ML tasks related to the automations.

    Old smartwatch running @AsteroidOS serves as network intrusion notification system.

    for alarm.

  22. Ergebnis vom Wochenende:
    * #TrueNAS mit #OpenMediaVault ersetzt (#ZFS Volumes)
    * Mittels #Portainer #Wireguard und #Motioneye als #Docker Container am laufen
    * #HomeAssistant in einer #VM

    Und alles läuft jetzt ohne zu murren und auch stabil über Reboots. 👍 Yeah

    Aber auch:
    * Wochenende ist vorbei
    * Entspannung schaut anders aus
    * Laune und Nerven im Keller

  23. @vladdi I use #motioneye as I only need it for the "feeds", my understanding is that #frigate is much more geared towards identifying objects (people, pets, cars, etc).

    I have one main #motioneye #raspberrypi and then a further one with two cameras that I then pull into the main one. Then I connect it to #HomeAssistant using the integration. My understanding is there is some development going on in motion/motioneye, but it hasn't been updated for a couple of years.

  24. For my surveillance cams I am trying to figure out how to optimise and replace the ffmpeg that I still use.

    Was thinking #frigate or #motioneye but maybe some of you have experience with either or an even better solution?

    #homeassistant #homeautomation #smarthome

  25. #motionEyeOS is a #Linux distribution that turns a single-board computer into a video surveillance system. The OS is based on BuildRoot and uses motion as a backend and #motionEye for the frontend.

  26. @MrDers

    I just bought a #PineCube to see if it can be hooked up to #HomeAssistant with #MotionEye. Haven't actually tried it yet, but should be a fun experiment!
