(Me proposez pas #raspbian). Je reste attaché à debian, apt et apt-get...

Raspberry CM4 CM5

  8. Suunnittelin tulevaa… 16. päivä kuluvaa kuuta tuli #RasPi2B:lläni kymmenen vuotta täyteen #nimipalvelin-hommissa. Käyttiksenä on ollut #Raspbian (2016–2021), #Ubuntu (2021–2023) ja #FreeBSD (2023–). 32-bittisen #armv7:n tuki vain uhkaa kadota kaikkialta ennen pitkää. Tuumin, tulisiko #RasPi4B:stä uusi nimipalvelin ja vanhempi 2B siirtyisi eläkkeelle? #atkjuttuja #linux #bsd #floss #atkjuttuja

  9. Now, #fedora is still my daily OS on my workstation (PC and laptop). On my servers, #centos had been my primary server distro, but changed to #rockylinux and #almalinux because #redhat policy changes.

There are some of my servers also use fedora #coreos aka #fcos and i love it.

Also touch #ubuntu or #debian, but only because some of my company's customer use that on their servers.

Also touch debian because it is base distro of #proxmox VE and #raspberry #pi #raspbian.

  10. #deardiary

I kid you not, just did a moto24 - #raspbian #rpi4 sftp transfer via #termux because #bluetooth could not connect.

Twa's literally faster to type in than wrestle demons of #ui.

There was someone lately as had said that he doesn't like the #cli and good riddance? My dude! Looks like you could never run your fingers over it proper.

Lazy day today. Did an exercise I was putting off. Turns out it was quite simple in the end.

'kay off to bed.. night night..

  11. Spent all day trying to get #libcamera to produce a good quality video stream using #MediaMTX under IR light. In the end I've gone back to RPi Cam Control using #picamera
The quality was awful, and no matter how much I fiddled with the mediamtx.yml it didn't improve.

  16. @axantoni
I used #Ubuntu with the #Unity desktop for a while, but then switched to #LinuxMint because of its ease of use.
I now use #LinuxMintDebianEdition (#LMDE) because of its better compatibility with RaspberryPi and #Raspbian (#RaspberryPiOS).

    @waldstepper

  18. I've managed to get #OpenMediaVault working on my #RaspberryPi (running #Raspbian Lite) and the performance seems pretty impressive! Despite relying on USB storage for the SSDs.

This is my first time running a
#NAS on the Pi, on #OMV, not using #ZFS or #RAID but rather an #Unraid like solution, 'cept, #FOSS called #SnapRAID in combination with #mergerfs (the drives themselves are simply #EXT4).

So far, honestly, so good. I got 2x 1TB SSDs for data, and another 1TB SSD for parity. Don't have a backup for the data themselves atm, but I do have a scheduled backup solution (
#RaspiBackup) setup for the OS itself (SD card). It's also got #Timeshift for creating daily snapshots.

    I'm not
out of the woods yet though, cos after this comes the (somewhat) scary part - deploying #Immich on the Pi lol (using OMV's #Docker compose interface perhaps). I really could just deploy it in my #Proxmox #homelab, and I wouldn't have to worry about system resources or hardware transcoding, etc. but I really wanna experiment this 'everything hosted/contained in 1 Pi' concept.

  19. Lately I've been doing more #SelfHosting again due to the current situation. Of course, I'm paying particular attention to power consumption and noise. After good experiences with the #ARM64 architecture, even with power-hungry applications such as Mastodon, I'm now using the smartphone technology for my homeservers, too.

There are #SBCs with more open hardware, but the #RaspberryPi is widely available, well documented, powerful and inexpensive. And it is available with up to 16 GB of RAM.

Anyone operating a server on the Internet must install #security updates quickly. However, many people forget to restart running software so that the new version runs instead of the old one. The #needrestart tool helps with this on Debian-based Linux systems, which unfortunately is usually not pre-installed.

On my Raspberry Pi 4, needrestart always runs correctly (automatically after apt upgrade). On my Raspberry Pi 5, however, I first had to create a configuration file as described by the main developer here:
    github.com/liske/needrestart/b
Previously, the tool always claimed that a reboot was necessary because it thought an outdated Linux kernel was running.

Next, I want to activate #LUKS hard drive encryption on both raspis. Unfortunately, this is not as easy under #Raspbian or #RaspberryPiOS as on other Debian systems. If you have managed this: Please let me know how you did it!

Why use, not use or amuse #Penguin #empowered hardware? :ablobsunglasses:

Here is my #stirring #story from Windows to Linux user, be interested in ‘earing yours? :abloblurk:

I am #familiar with many #versions of Linux. The first one I tried was #Slackware which I installed from an already out dated #CD. It took me 5 weeks to sort of get a browser (#Netscape I seem to remember) on half the screen. I was #curious and my computer friends looked at this rather pathetic display with pity and #incomprehension. What madness was this? :byebrows:

I continued, getting Linux Magazine and realising I could barely understand 5% of what was being discussed.

I was a beginner again. So began #distro #hopping with very condescending ‘help’ from the penguinated.

    However …

One pre alpha distro was able to provide me with advice on my numerous #questions. Eventually I settled on using this distro, once I got it working at speed. Puppy Linux. :ablobdancer:

#Puppy was small, VERY fast and continually different. As far as I was concerned if a distro was slow, why not use Windows or Apple? :ablobslurp:

I still distro hopped but worked very hard for much of the required donkey work for Puppy. I was #fascinated by programming languages but not much of a programmer. So it was mainly #Wiki, #forums and helping #noobs, which is were Puppy became much friendlier and usable. 🤣

After many #experiences, too many to go into I am now using a rolling release, #Manjaro, #Raspbian for my #Raspberry Pi’s and one olde computer with Puppy. Barry Kauler who created Puppy is now working on #EasyOS. However I am retired from new experimental distros. Now I prefer my Windows free #choice as I move towards #FOSS. Free and Open Source Software.

Quite a ride … How is yours going? :_stars:

  33. CW:

    🦞Dear friends of the #overcoming,

    This
#morning was using my #trusty #trinity of #OS, #Raspbian or RaspberryPI OS, Puppy #Linux and #Manjaro. Managed to get #Audacity running on the RPI3 WITH YE OLDE Tandy (Randy Shack in US) headphones, which I nearly #threw out due to not #working. Very pleased. Also did a #zoom call and caught up with a few instances …

I still can not close, migrate Instance.
🤓 Puppy Linux wound me up because I could not get Audacity working. I also listened to a short podcast from a #fedifriend. What is the correct term if they are talking about #Buddhism or #Meditation? #Bodhi buddy? #Medifedi?

    Anyway time for
    #lunch, might have #food for a #change😋

  34. @Linux_Is_Best I somehow got stuck with #SuSE all the years. Other distros I used only on special use cases... Like
    - #kalilinux (hacking, if needed)
    - #knoppix data rescue from #windows machines
    - #raspbian #RaspberryPiOS for my #raspi s
    - #venusOS on a raspberry for my #victron #solar system
    - #pihole as my #DNS server

    #edit : #language changed and #typo s

However, the SD card went into read-only mode. So a restore was as easy as making a clone of the failed SD card onto a new one.

  37. Hello. Any advice on how to use an OV5647 with the raspberry pi to use opencv with it? I already tried many times and I keep having issues with moduleError not found

    Cannot use picamera2

  38. Living in a #converted #bus and being an absolute #nerd
I have had ups and downs. But, I've managed to do things here that I didn't think were possible.

Here is a screenshot of my main "server" in the bus, a #RPI4 running #Raspbian and on it a few #Docker containers, torrent client and more. And as you can see the uptime on the machine is 58 days and counting =D

I also have quite a few ESP32s running as well as two or three #RPIZeroW SOCs here. And all running fantastically =D

  39. I chose #Raspbian OS lite to get a fresh, fast, and clean #RadpberryPi. It was not only recommended, but I wanted to use #KIAUH ratger than using #MainsailOS.

This gave me more storage space, and I also knew what was already installed.

This also solved one of my problems when I used #Klipper with #Octoprint and #OctoKlipper.

I had a "mcu error," which I never could get a solution for. I had to restart my printer and Klipper repeatedly until they finally would connect.

This was solved by following the #Mainsail and #KIAUH docs and installing the Raspberry Pi MCU firmware.

    These problems are now solved.

And damn, is this blazing fast.

Although I did clean my fan and heatsink and decided to #overclock my Raspberry Pi, the UI is so responsive I can live without my printer screen.

  40. Although I enjoyed my #Klipper transition. I stayed with #Octoprint, which was actually the final straw.

Although I could live without my printer's display, the lag and sluggish and slow #UI of Octoprint just pushed me over the limit. I felt as if I couldn't react to my printer anymore.

So with a heavy heart, I removed my SD card, wiped it and installed a clean version of #Raspbian OS Lite, and used #KIAUH to install #Klipper, #Mainsail, #KlipperScreen, #Crowsnest, #Moonraker and #Octoeverywhere

  41. CW: Ken Thompson’s OS

At the latest #SCALE conference, #KenThompson, one of the creators of #Unix and #Plan9, was asked what operating system he uses today. He said that he’s used MacOS for the longest time, but because he’s becoming unhappy with Apple’s direction, he is now switching to #Linux.

But the surprising part is that he’s using the distro #Raspbian, the distro bundled with the #RaspberryPi, based on #Debian.

  44. I wrote a blog on installing `#sar` on #Raspbian buster & #Ubuntu22.04 LTS to run with `#systemd`. TLDR don't configure #cron wp.me/pauVx4-1Oz

  45. @spla @unmes

  46. For future #CRXN operations my side, I am thinking of switching away from #Raspbian on the #Pis and just buying one of these, has the onboard ports I need and #OpenWRT which is the main thing I really care about - that bloat-free life with a webUI that focuses solely on networking

  47. Hoy he estado ocupado:

    5. he creado feed2toot.ini, hasftag.txt y rss.txt segun Victor

  48. @FreePietje: Yes, but there's another fact which might explain that initial naming:

#Raspbian AFAIK never (not sure about the very beginning though) offered images, just recompiled packages.

To my knowledge "Raspbian" images always came from the #RaspberryPiFoundation.

Another detail: Peter Green aka plugwash only became DD after Raspbian has become a success.

Nevertheless, the reason for the existence of Raspbian is still there: Debian still has a performance penalty on #RaspberryPi 0 + 1.
