(Me proposez pas #raspbian). Je reste attaché à debian, apt et apt-get...

  3. Just tested on most recent raspbian (debian on raspberry pi) linux and Copy Fail for sure fucks up 'su' pages in memory, but the command simply becomes unexecutable. It does not drop me to a root login because it cannot execute the 'su' command. Indeed the '/bin/su' file itself remains untouched.

Reboot and it gets cleared out of memory. But I think "every kernel since 2017" might not be exactly right. Definitely make sure you test this.

Raspberry CM4 CM5

  7. Suunnittelin tulevaa… 16. päivä kuluvaa kuuta tuli #RasPi2B:lläni kymmenen vuotta täyteen #nimipalvelin-hommissa. Käyttiksenä on ollut #Raspbian (2016–2021), #Ubuntu (2021–2023) ja #FreeBSD (2023–). 32-bittisen #armv7:n tuki vain uhkaa kadota kaikkialta ennen pitkää. Tuumin, tulisiko #RasPi4B:stä uusi nimipalvelin ja vanhempi 2B siirtyisi eläkkeelle? #atkjuttuja #linux #bsd #floss #atkjuttuja

  8. Now, #fedora is still my daily OS on my workstation (PC and laptop). On my servers, #centos had been my primary server distro, but changed to #rockylinux and #almalinux because #redhat policy changes.

There are some of my servers also use fedora #coreos aka #fcos and i love it.

Also touch #ubuntu or #debian, but only because some of my company's customer use that on their servers.

Also touch debian because it is base distro of #proxmox VE and #raspberry #pi #raspbian.

  9. Hey #RaspberryPi

Apparently they're about to stop supporting the original Pi, of which I own one still-functional unit.

I would like to build this into some sort of sarcastic memorial Wall Thing that features the Pi itself, that will work theoretically forever without further OS updates (so a clock, maybe, could be the "function" of it). Up until now, it's sat in a bin, theoretically ready to be pressed into service, but this milestone deserves marking.

I have a touchscreen hat for it also (26 pins!) but it stopped working long long ago, kernel support was dropped for its driver chip I believe.

#linuxKernel experts, I could theoretically still run an ancient kernel image (or ancient #Raspbian image?), as long as I don't need security, right? I am willing to put in the headaches to sort out exactly how, I've done a few kernel things before but it's still big and scary in my head. As long as I'm assured that this is a thing, compiling an ancient kernel to make an ancient peripheral work. Yes?

That first Pi really did change my life, it is going to have a place of honour on the wall of my home.

  10. I'm running some tests on my old and trusted Raspberry Pi A+.
I've installed Raspbian - latest release, lite version. At the prompt, it's using 92 MB of RAM, mainly due to systemd and NetworkManager. As soon as you use it (even just for apt), it starts swapping and becomes almost unusable. It took 5 minutes just to install Python.

I tried NetBSD (on the same memory card): 35 MB of RAM used (including Postfix!) and it's totally usable.

  11. #deardiary

I kid you not, just did a moto24 - #raspbian #rpi4 sftp transfer via #termux because #bluetooth could not connect.

Twa's literally faster to type in than wrestle demons of #ui.

There was someone lately as had said that he doesn't like the #cli and good riddance? My dude! Looks like you could never run your fingers over it proper.

Lazy day today. Did an exercise I was putting off. Turns out it was quite simple in the end.

'kay off to bed.. night night..

  12. Spent all day trying to get #libcamera to produce a good quality video stream using #MediaMTX under IR light. In the end I've gone back to RPi Cam Control using #picamera
The quality was awful, and no matter how much I fiddled with the mediamtx.yml it didn't improve.

  13. @axantoni
I used #Ubuntu with the #Unity desktop for a while, but then switched to #LinuxMint because of its ease of use.
I now use #LinuxMintDebianEdition (#LMDE) because of its better compatibility with RaspberryPi and #Raspbian (#RaspberryPiOS).

    @waldstepper

  14. Today #RaspberryPi published a really wild update - DO NOT UPDATE if you've updated to Trixie before official release because here's what it's gonna do to your desktop and have a look at this official forum thread:

  16. 📺 Watch the latest talk from the 19th Linux Session!

This time we’re featuring Sebastian Słomka from Nokia with the presentation "Beyond Raspbian and Ubuntu: Why Yocto is the Right Tool for Production-Ready Embedded Linux".

  17. ok anyone know how to easily find a #Raspbian image with #Linux 3.4 or thereabouts

  18. @cyclical_obsessive I am STILL in the weeds on this. After getting #MotionEye to see the camera under #raspbian I tweaked the OS and lost the camera to MO.

Tried redoing what I had done, & no joy. So now I'm trying MotionEyeOS which hasn't been truly updated in 4 years, and appears to not be compatible with the Arducam IMX219 at the kernel level.

So now I'm probably back to trying raspian again. This $55 worth of hardware will end up with over $2000 of my time in it.

  19. I've managed to get #OpenMediaVault working on my #RaspberryPi (running #Raspbian Lite) and the performance seems pretty impressive! Despite relying on USB storage for the SSDs.

This is my first time running a
#NAS on the Pi, on #OMV, not using #ZFS or #RAID but rather an #Unraid like solution, 'cept, #FOSS called #SnapRAID in combination with #mergerfs (the drives themselves are simply #EXT4).

So far, honestly, so good. I got 2x 1TB SSDs for data, and another 1TB SSD for parity. Don't have a backup for the data themselves atm, but I do have a scheduled backup solution (
#RaspiBackup) setup for the OS itself (SD card). It's also got #Timeshift for creating daily snapshots.

    I'm not
out of the woods yet though, cos after this comes the (somewhat) scary part - deploying #Immich on the Pi lol (using OMV's #Docker compose interface perhaps). I really could just deploy it in my #Proxmox #homelab, and I wouldn't have to worry about system resources or hardware transcoding, etc. but I really wanna experiment this 'everything hosted/contained in 1 Pi' concept.

  20. Still in my painful journey of building my #RaspberryPi 4 #NAS with #OpenMediaVault lol, on today's episode:

    My setup is comprised of:

    - Pi 4 (4GB)
    - SD card for boot storage
    - USB Drive for backup (USB 3)
    - USB 3 cable -> External powered USB 3 hub -> 3 SATA SSDs via SATA-USB3 cables (USB 3)
    - Other USB 2 ports are not occupied

When I boot it up (on
#Raspbian Lite, #OMV installed), if I do a lsblk, all drives show up incl. USB stick and all 3 SATA SSDs. But when I hop on to OMV > Storage > Disks, it takes a long time to scan/list down all attached storage, and it might do in the end... BUT it will end with all my USB stick AND 3 SATA SSDs crashing/disappearing from my Pi (i.e. no longer show up in lsblk).

What could be the cause, and could it be 'fixed'? Trying to figure out the limitation of the Pi 4 here.. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the USB-SATA cable, the USB hub, the power supply I bought (separately) for the USB hub, or wtv else?

  21. Just realised #OpenMediaVault (#OMV) only supports #Debian, not #Ubuntu. My #RaspberryPi has #Ubuntu 20.04 LTS installed atm (and currently running as a QDevice for my #Proxmox cluster), so I'll prolly have to scratch that and install... #Raspbian (Lite), which should be Debian 12?
