Gkrellm is one of the lightest system monitoring tools that I use, only top and htop are lighter. Of course it's a Natural Choice on not only the SBC Pi5 but on all machines here

On these displays you see the SBC in action. The screen on the lower right belongs to a very old sturdy notebook which couldn't even run an important piece of OpenSource software I use to make certain types of connections. I had to degrade The Notebook to a music player after I got it out the two and a half inch hard drive

This is the old cooling configuration of my Raspberry Pi5. A simple aluminum block cooled by a relatively good yet small fan. There are different ways to read the fan and temperatures of this SBC which may need some simple Python programming

Pi5 Raspberry SBC
This is the standard config of cooling on the Pi5. I wanted more so I got myself a much better cooling system. Instead of one Al cooling arry, all of my IC's, not just the SOC are cooled making contact with a full cooling block of solid Al, on top of the block this is a high performace fan with ball bearings, not sleeve bearings which have a longer MTBF. The block alone with the contacts on the IC's is so effecient that on light loads the fan can even stop running.
Since the machine is running in the tropics that is a great achievement
The cooling system has space for m.2 2080 SSD controllers with multiple SSD's, which one other reason why I bought it. I want m.2 SSD speed instead of microSD speed (which is nice)

matplotlib examples
Of course I'll quote a few examples using matplotlib. I have a SBC Pi5 here with the full gamut of Python installed to do nice work with and on HATs
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np
x = np.linspace(0, 2 * np.pi, 200)
y = np.sin(x)
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.plot(x, y)
plt.show()Results in second screencap
next
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np
t = np.linspace(-10, 10, 100)
sig = 1 / (1 + np.exp(-t))
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.axhline(y=0, color="black", linestyle="--")
ax.axhline(y=0.5, color="black", linestyle=":")
ax.axhline(y=1.0, color="black", linestyle="--")
ax.axvline(color="grey")
ax.axline((0, 0.5), slope=0.25, color="black", linestyle=(0, (5, 5)))
ax.plot(t, sig, linewidth=2, label=r"$\sigma(t) = \frac{1}{1 + e^{-t}}$")
ax.set(xlim=(-10, 10), xlabel="t")
ax.legend(fontsize=14)
plt.show()Results in screencap

We regret to have to inform you, than LLM hardware farms have driven the prices of my beloved SBC series up again.
LLM are literally f#cking us over on all fronts.
I cant build my system with notebook APU 128GB DDR5 RAM and all other goodies anymore for a normal price.
CHeck out how DDR5 is unpayable now.
Now I have to fork over USD 60 extra for a new SBC just so I can at least have that extra machine to work with.

Is the £45 Raspberry Pi 5 2GB actually usable? 🤔
I tested the cheapest Pi 5 for desktop, gaming, and servers.

I have buildin bug hunting attributes
Check out the linked toot. The display of oosplash and soffice.bin is on the GPU of my SBC. I am logged in via ssh on another computer. I expected that when Midnight Commander invoked the soffice.bin program for pdf as default editor, it would do an X export to the remote desktop I logged in from since the switches are -Xv2
Firefox did that gorgeously gkrellm does it well also.
In this case I got the splash initially on my remote machine (so desktop of ssh originator) but the rest was shown on SBC native desktop
The Pi5 runs wayland, but that can't have anything to do with the error, since gkrellm & firefox spawn properly on the ssh originator
I will investigate this phenomenon further. If anyone can react with similar experiences please do, with explicit details

In this one I use a bit of networking to get to the SBC via ssh, invoke my trusted sh player (I use it for many decades) output the audio via a audio interface to a 16 channel insturment mixer, which is connected to the Yamaha mixing console, which then sends it via a couple of AUX busses to the effect rack, where I put a Delay Reverb combo on it, return that signal back, then mix it with the output, after which the audio is sent analog to the different destinations I have in the house
