Tony Krueger, un inginer legendar de la Microsoft al cărui nume este mai puțin cunoscut publicului, dar a cărui muncă a influențat sute de milioane de utilizatori din întreaga lume.
👨💻 Un pionier al aplicației Microsoft Word:
• Tony Krueger a lucrat la versiunile de început ale Microsoft Word (Word 1.0, 1.1, 2.0), la portările pentru OS/2 și Mac, precum și la Word 6.0 și versiunile ulterioare, deținând probabil recordul pentru cele mai multe versiuni de Word livrate.
• Deși este menționat pe Wikipedia pentru că a portat jocul clasic Chip's Challenge pe Windows pentru pachetul Windows Entertainment Pack, adevărata sa moștenire tehnologică este alta.
🔴 Invenția verificării ortografice în fundal (Squiggly Lines):
• Înainte de intervenția sa, verificarea ortografică era o acțiune manuală, ce întrerupea procesul de scriere și deschidea ferestre pop-up.
• Tony a optimizat procesul pentru a rula discret în fundal și a introdus celebra subliniere ondulată roșie pentru cuvinte greșite și, ulterior, linia ondulată verde pentru erori de gramatică.
🎭 O anecdotă legendară cu Penn & Teller:
• Raymond Chen povestește cum un coleg, aflat la un spectacol al celebrului duo de iluzioniști Penn & Teller, le-a cerut o autogramă pe o fotografie pentru Tony.
• Când le-a explicat că „Tony este omul din echipa care a făcut liniile roșii și verzi în Word”, Teller — cunoscut pentru faptul că nu vorbește niciodată pe scenă — a ieșit din personaj și a exclamat uimit: „That was HIM?!” („El a fost?!”).

I reckon it's been like this for 20 years, probably 30?
Fixed dropdown lists that would have been OK in the days of 8 character filenames. Containing some random list of recent filenames with any useful versioning truncated and unreadable.
No attempt to anticipate you might JUST want to compare the two documents you have open.Just had to get off my chest, been boiling away for decades now...
But don't worry Stupid Ribbon(TM), you're still the one I hate the most.

Everybody was either head over heels about what you could do with #Lotus123 or writing their own #Basic programs, or sometimes #Pascal, at home during the weekend.
I worked in a consulting engineering office and we would all get together on Mondays to show off our weekend creations!
Later, when #MicrosoftWord came along you could secretly program a friend’s computer to do crazy things when a common QA phrase was typed. For instance ISO9000 could be replaced with.” hey guys! I brought all my goldfish to work this morning in my underpants.!”
