  3. 10 years later, Sean Murray still plays the launch version of No Man's Sky, and he still likes it: "It does feel quite barebones in places, but I kind of enjoy that"

    gamesradar.com/games/survival/

"I personally really enjoy it when I'm playing it," he continues. "It has a really weird, esoteric feel, and I think it feels quite different to lots of other games. It does feel quite barebones in places, but I kind of enjoy that. There's a charm to it. It feels weird, and it feels almost like more of an indie game, more niche, which is kind of my taste to some extent. I'm kind of into that."

  6. @sarahalang Thanks for this! If you CTRL+H 'history' with 'archaeology', it reads almost as well, though we have a slightly longer tradition (starting in the 50s) and a more distant relationship to text-centric Digital Humanities.

Will be a very handy citation when trying to communicate that no, I'm not talking about 'big data'!

  7. 🔍 OldaVista: where you search in 6 languages for Britney Spears’ smelly feet and Moffatts fanfic, all while pretending it's still Y2K! 📼✨ Because who needs modern search engines when you can browse an archive of random 2001 treasures like a true digital archaeologist? 🕵️‍♂️🔎

  8. 🕵️‍♂️🔍 In a stunning revelation that's sure to baffle, the Pentagon is on high alert 🚨 over Israeli espionage. Meanwhile, NBC's website is an archaeological dig through 2000s-era web design, suggesting that the real threat might be their outdated browsing advice. 💾📺

  11. [problem solved] Has anyone got a copy of the CAA Proceedings 2012? My university doesn't have a Taylor & Francis ebook sub and the more, ehem, nefarious routes to finding such things has failed me.

    doi: doi.org/10.4324/9781003690962

Specifically I want to have a look at the chapter "The Long and Winding Road" by Verhagen et al.

  14. Just back from the 53rd CAA conference in Vienna! 🏛️ A packed week – I presented the KIŠIB project, co-organised an archaeogaming session with Aris Politopoulos (10 talks, consistently high quality!), and was impressed by new approaches to automatic cuneiform translation.
The organisation was excellent, and the ice breaker was hard to beat. New blog post with my full report:itsmoreofacomment.com/2026/04/

  15. Ah, the digital archaeologists have risen from their basements to resurrect a 1991 classic, because clearly, Civilization 1 was just *too cutting-edge* for modern minds to handle. ⚰️🔧 Meanwhile, #GitHub is busy drowning us in #buzzwords like "Copilot" and "Spark" to make sure we know they're still pretending to invent the future. 🚀🙄
