Briar can do the same.
I am maybe being too optimistic with my mile guess. 150 metres may be nearer the reality.
If a council had a Meshtastic relay on top of the town hall (with battery backup) that would keep a pretty wide network functioning, I imagine.
Or ditto a nerd.

If I understand it right, Meshenger will work with phones only. You scan the QR code in someone else's Android phone, they scan yours and then you are linked.
Guessing a mile range if you are lucky. But if they are linked to someone a mile further on and you link with that person, your range is then 2 miles.
If someone within about 10 miles has a Meshtastic radio, you can use the Meshtastic app with that. But Meshenger can talk to that system too.
Five people in the town would work well but a hundred would be a very solid network.
The kind of thing the city council should help with.

See the next message. Looks more suitable and there must be people on here who know much more than me.

@sabutilnik Thanks for explaning! I also saw there is a standalone Meshtastic device called #Meshenger, might check that one out. It seems to be the same device, just with a small #cardkb #keyboard added
