  1. Wednesday I caught a pic of a sweat bee and a leaf-cutter bee in my garden. Here's a brown-belted bumble bee on common milkweed for the trifecta. I don't think I've taken such a clear shot of the belt before 👍.

  2. 🎵 "My milkweed brings all the bugs to the yard
And they're like, it's better than yours
Damn right it's better than yours
I can teach you, but I have to charge...🎵

  3. Stink bug on what appears to be a false sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides) though many of our native yellow Asteraceae family flowers look very similar.

  4. My little red mini rose apparently responded well to its early spring trim and brought its flower game to the garden. Take it easy, honey. Don't strain yourself😍

  5. Finally got out for a decent bike ride and found some false blue indigo blooming down by the river. Been trying to get it started in my garden but no luck so far but I really love this plant so I'll be trying again this/next yr.

  6. My native southern blue flag irises have bloomed! Planted them in spring of 2023 but they didn't bloom last year. I've loved these since I first came across them in the wild. Simple and delicate and that canary yellow along side the white with lavender veining is to die for 😍

  7. Some lovely wild morning glories invading the neighbors lawn. ID suggests it's Convolvulus arvensis, a native of Europe and Asia but it is considered a aggressive invasive in the US.

  8. My Canada anemone has begun blooming. Flowers are pure white & I used to struggle getting a pics w/o the petals overexposed. Highly aggressive & wants to form a monoculture. Great in the wild but a bit too aggressive for a garden so I have to keep it in check.

  9. I ❤️ hyacinths but I'm also keen on native plants. Imagine my delight in finding a native wild hyacinth. Just had to have it!

Been busy so almost missed taking pics but caught it at the tippy-top of its bloom.

  10. My freesia hath bloometh!

I purchased my bulbs in 2021 but they've only bloomed once prior this yr. As you can see I use a contraption to keep it upright cause tall plants get too leggy in my window.

Bonus as a houseplant, it smells marvelous!

  11. Violets are so ubiquitous here that I often don't photograph/notice them. I need to remedy that because they are cute little plants w/ lovely flowers/foliage. Been finding marvelous little volunteer violets out back so I'm transplanting some into the more formal garden.

  12. My creeping phlox has 'sploded!

Whether creeping or tall woodland, phlox puts on a wonderful show.

Can't really argue with a billowing carpet of flowers, no?

  13. "What's up, buttercup?"

This is the 1st yr my native buttercup bloomed 😍. Pretty sure this is swamp buttercup (Ranunculus hispidus).

Been fascinated by those slick petals since I 1st came across it on the trail so added to the garden 2 yrs ago👍.

  14. I'm finding flowering quince (like these buds from this past Saturday) is easier to ID this yr compared to the last few despite the fact that there are few flowers so far.

There's nothing quite like that shade of reddish-peach.

  15. Here's another shot of that lovely liverwort from yesterday (previous post☝️). I took this with my 200-500mm wildlife lens. Gonna try to get back to #ClearCreekTrail with the macro lens so I can get closer/better detail.

  16. Popping in from hiatus to post this beauty. This is liverwort (Anemone hepatica) & it's one of my absolute favorites. I look for it in early #spring on #ClearCreekTrail. Usually find 1-2 plants but this yr found a whole patch👍.

  17. In from hiatus just to post this pic of a native plant called prairie smoke (Geum triflorum) that just started producing blooms in my garden. B4 opening the flower turns upright. When one opens I'll post a pic.

  18. The highly suggestive, perhaps even erotic, center of an impatiens flower. And that's coming from a gay man🤔.

My technique🖌️ and general philosophy👨‍🏫 of flower photography consists of the following steps.

    Step 1:
Aim for the sexy bits 😳

    That is all the steps.
