Dopo il rifiuto da parte di alcune case discografiche, grazie a Jon Zazula della Megaforce Records, con appena 15 mila dollari di budget, i METALLICA iniziano a registrare il loro debutto: "Kill 'Em All" (inizialmente intitolato Metal Up Your Ass).
Il disco uscirà poi il 25/07/1983.
Alcuni pezzi riporteranno ancora l'ex chitarrista Dave Mustaine come compositore.
È considerato uno dei migliori debutti in ambito Heavy Metal.
