"Blues Breakers w/Eric Clapton" released this day in 1966. When I wanted to pick up the guitar all the slingers in my circle advised I needed to listen to this album. This was a new vocabulary for the instrument. A new pallet. A 1960 Les Paul run thru a Marshall 1962 had quite an impact then and continues to inspire.

John Mayall, Down The Line, 1973 on London Records
Compilation of songs previously released: First LP includes songs from Blues Breakers, A Hard Road, Crusade, The Blues Alone, Bare Wires, Blues From Laurel Canyon, and Looking Back, and the second LP is John Mayall Plays John Mayall (1965) which was never released on vinyl in the US (and had not been issued in the US when this came out).
I’m a massive John Mayall fan – I don’t normally try to pick up compilations of things I already have, but this is a good way to get the live tracks on LP2 as I’ve never seen a John Mayall Plays John Mayall in the wild.
My copy is a Bestway Pressing via A1 records in New York City.

John Mayall was the only famous guitarist that I know of who had played my main guitar, a Martin EM-18.
He sold his to Norman's Rare Guitars in 2011, and it was resold by a private seller on Reverb for $5,999 two years ago.

First time in the Marquee Club was around New Year's in 1965. My ship spent weeks loading general cargo in the docks. Straight on to Wardour Street every single night.
Later; every time in London. Summer of 1967 from June to late August.
Some communication also while I was working in a newspaper with responsibility for the music pages. A greeting that clearly shows John Mayall's background from art school and as a graphic designer.
