  5. The #InternetArchive is down It does not really make sense to me, that the information channel for downtimes of @internetarchive is on their own infrastructure - and seems to be down, too.

  7. The Internet Archive @internetarchive services are offline. Unfortunately, although they list Mastodon among the platforms for finding the latest information, they don't seem to have posted anything here (they have on Bluesky and on Musk's platform). So here it is:

  11. Transport Tycoon (iOS, 2014) OST (TTD OST remaster)

    by John Broomhall.

This is the soundtrack for Transport Tycoon for iOS/Android (2014), a remastered version of the original game, Transport Tycoon Deluxe (1995). The original game was developed by Chris Sawyer for MS-DOS, and had an original jazz/blues soundtrack by John Broomhall.

For the 2014 version of the game, John Broomhall personally remastered the original soundtrack as well.

The tracks in this release were ripped from the iOS release of the game. They were not re-encoded. There is no lossless quality available.

The tracklist has been put in the same order as the original game.

Kiss Me Deadly seems like a pretty groundbreaking one if (as I researched by skimming notes on reception but not plot) films like Pulp Fiction and Raiders of the Lost Ark and more pay homage to a certain... thing. 17. So @textfiles scanned this collection I sent him and placed it at the Internet Archive - it contains documents I kept after working at Electronics Boutique in the 1990s.

    archive.org/details/computer-s

When working at EB, you could get games and hardware at severely discounted prices. Publishers were motivated in you trying out their stuff and recommending it. I got a lot of games from them. Most of what the Digital Antiquarian has been going through, I have because of these.

  23. Hey #internetarchive fans, does anybody know of a way to find the DiscMaster URL (i.e. discmaster.textfiles.com/brows) for a particular internet archive identifier (i.e. archive.org/details/macworld-m)? Most ideal would be a way to do this programmatically.

DiscMaster is neat, but the way I've been searching for these pages is so clunky I'd be embarrassed to describe it.

  28. I was trying to figure out why internet archive blocks vpn access across the board (at least for me) and just added the domain ip to an off vpn whitelist, calling it a day.

In doing so I referenced that internet archive functions as its on ISP/ORG as it routes directly to a san fran internet exchange and data center that hosts a lot of infrastructure for many many organizations and providers.

  34. Of course, I'm not saying that self-managed hosting is bad. I'm just saying that there is an ongoing cost that sits on the publisher.

One consequence is that legacy projects will be in danger of disappearing as sites go down (whether on purpose, or because something breaks and the owner has no energy or money to deal with it).

So, I think if we're going to advocate for a more self-hosted web, we also have to advocate for public archives to migrate legacy data to (and possibly just old data, even from live projects).

Is that the role of #InternetArchive or #WikimediaCommons ? IDK.

There are the commercial platforms like #YouTube and #Vimeo -- but they have their own forms of erosion to worry about.

But I think it ought to exist.

I have about 25 GB of Blender source files for Lunatics, and about 60 GB of incidental videos from the project. Presumably, I could pare that down to make digests or something (and I probably will when I make a source release on BD-R). So possibly it should be winnowed down to make it more manageable. But in the long term, a migration to public archives seems like the only way to preserve this sort of thing.

Or else it just vanishes offline, I guess.

    archive.org/details/open_libra

Looks like it's going to find prices for about 440k books out of 930k. The median price so far is about 25 $.

(This triggered by @davidgerard writing about shady companies scooping up used books for undeclared purposes likely to be "LLM training": pivot-to-ai.com/2026/07/23/ai- .)
