He actually answers a question I put to him beforehand on Bluesky, regarding my confusion about salinification versus freshening.The beginning of this #ClimateChat episode hosted by Dan Miller and Leon Simons
is all about Matt's paper with Rahmstorf and others about the 2023 bananas in the North Atlantic. You may recall: low wind speed as primary cause by far for the marine heatwaveS 2023 that gripped regions of the North Atlantic one after the other.
Matt explains the multiple ways wind over oceans contribute to cooling.
a) mixing b) white caps on the waves = albedo increase c) ocean spray or fog = albedo increase, and one more I now forget.As is Dan Miller's habit, he also quickly asks Matt about #geoengineering, bringing SO2 into the #stratosphere .
Matt's reply: 1) angry that fossil fuel industry should be let off the hook by this
2) realistically, the political mindset lets Matt expect that geo engineering will be done.
3) whether he supports this is not answered.
4) as an afterthought, he adds that ocean acidification from relentless CO2 emissions does continue despite geo-engineering, and also the CO2 take-up and later re-release into the atmosphere continues.Dan Miller also grazes his pet topic #ShippingSO2 . UNAM nombra eméritos a José Narro y Mora Catlett
Se aprobó otorgar la medalla Gabino Barreda a dos alumnas de la Facultad de Derecho, y la medalla Alfonso Caso a tres estudiantes

El pleno del Consejo Universitario de la Universidad Nacional aprobó conferir el grado de profesores eméritos al exrector y profesor de la Facultad de Medicina (FM), José Ramón Narro Robles; así como al maestro e impulsor de la Escuela Nacional de Artes Cinematográficas, Juan Roberto Mora Catlett.
Promotor de la medicina familiar
José Narro es médico cirujano por la FM; cuenta con estudios de posgrado en Medicina Comunitaria por la Universidad de Birmingham, Inglaterra; y obtuvo la certificación como Especialista en Medicina Comunitaria por el Consejo Nacional de Salud Pública.
Posee casi cuatro décadas de experiencia docente; ha sido pilar para la consolidación de la medicina familiar como primer nivel de atención en salud en México y en América Latina. Su trabajo llevó a que la Universidad Nacional reconociera la especialización en Medicina Familiar, que comenzó en algunos hospitales del IMSS; afianzó el programa de estudios en la materia, y creó en la FM el primer departamento de Medicina Familiar de México y América Latina.
En dicha entidad académica instauró el primer Centro de Simulación Médica del país. También impulsó la creación de las licenciaturas en Ciencia Forense, que posteriormente dio origen a la Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Forenses dentro de la UNAM, y la de Física Biomédica. Estableció el primer Centro de Enseñanza y Certificación de Aptitudes Médicas y el Plan de Estudios Combinados en Medicina que permite obtener los grados de Médico Cirujano y doctor en Medicina en ocho años.
En el área de la salud pública ha promovido la Epidemiología Clínica y ha señalado problemas críticos como el embarazo infantil y adolescente, la cirrosis hepática, las enfermedades no transmisibles y la lucha contra la obesidad y el sobrepeso.
En investigación su obra incluye 79 artículos en revistas científicas indexadas y 34 capítulos de libros. Ha sido editor o coordinador de nueve libros; ha creado 267 productos adicionales, incluyendo artículos, libros, capítulos y 129 prólogos, entre otros trabajos.
Como parte del legado que dejó en la UNAM durante su rectorado se encuentra la creación de las escuelas nacionales de Estudios Superiores en León y Morelia; la instauración de ocho centros de estudios mexicanos en el extranjero en colaboración con universidades de China, España, Costa Rica, Francia, Inglaterra y Estados Unidos; la creación del Museo UNAM Hoy y del Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, así como la obtención del Premio “Príncipe de Asturias”.
Trayectoria fílmica destacada
Juan Roberto Mora Catlett ha sido pieza angular para el fortalecimiento y sistematización de la Escuela Nacional de Artes Cinematográficas, antes Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, y para la profesionalización del cine mexicano, pues elaboró el primer plan de estudios en cine, estructurado por objetivos, dentro de la UNAM.
Antes, la enseñanza se caracterizaba por manejarse a partir de lo empírico, y con él, en la Universidad Nacional y en otras partes de México y Latinoamérica, se institucionalizó un método académico sistematizado, pero flexible, que se ha aplicado con éxito al cine contemporáneo y en otras tradiciones mítico narrativas nacionales y universales.
Es licenciado en Cinematografía, especialista en Composición de Montaje en cine y televisión por la Facultad de Cine y Televisión de la Academia de Bellas Artes de Praga, y maestro en Artes por la Academia de Artes Escénicas de Praga.
Tiene más de 48 años como docente. Ha formado a una amplia cantidad de cineastas y ha sido asesor o tutor de más de 60 tesis fílmicas a nivel licenciatura y posgrado. Entre sus estudiantes reconocidos están Alfonso Cuarón Orozco, Emmanuel Lubezki Morgenstern, Elisa Miller Encinas, Julián Hernández, Miguel Salgado Parra, Manuel Elías López Monroy y Jaime Antonio Aparicio.
Su labor fílmica ha girado en torno a su principal línea de investigación: la elaboración de una dramaturgia cinematográfica mexicana basada en los antecedentes míticos prehispánicos. Dio vida a las películas “Retorno a Aztlán (In Necuepaliztli In Aztlán)”, hablada en lengua náhuatl clásica y filmada en zonas arqueológicas; y “Eréndira Ikikunari (Eréndira la Indomable)”, sobre la conquista de Michoacán por los españoles desde la óptica de los grupos indígenas. Estos trabajos fueron una revolución para la industria del cine y para la dignificación de las culturas indígenas, impactando en México, América Latina y otras partes del mundo.
Su obra consiste en la producción, guion y/o realización de 120 documentales; producción, guion, realización y/o edición de 16 cortometrajes y ocho largometrajes de ficción; ha escrito dos libros, cuatro capítulos en libros, 19 artículos en revistas y su labor profesional ha sido reseñada y/o analizada en tres tesis doctorales y 16 materiales escritos y audiovisuales.
En su tercera sesión del año, el Consejo Universitario también aprobó otorgar la medalla Gabino Barreda a dos alumnas de la Facultad de Derecho, quienes culminaron sus estudios en 2024; y la medalla Alfonso Caso a una alumna de especialización quien obtuvo el grado en 2021, así como a un alumno de especialización y otro de maestría quienes lograron el grado en 2023.
Cambios al Reglamento
Durante la sesión de este día, el pleno del CU también modificó el Reglamento de Planeación, Evaluación y Simplificación de la Gestión Institucional de esta casa de estudios que, entre otros cambios, amplió y fortaleció los instrumentos que las entidades académicas y dependencias administrativas utilizarán para informar del avance de sus planes de trabajo ante la comunidad universitaria y las instancias que los analizarán, evaluarán y les formularán recomendaciones, como son los Consejos Académicos de Área y el Consejo de Planeación y Seguimiento, respectivamente.
De la misma manera, el instrumento que se reformó incluye una descripción detallada de las etapas e instrumentos de planeación y evaluación de la Universidad, así como de las funciones que tiene a su cargo la Coordinación de Planeación, Evaluación y Simplificación de la Gestión Institucional, dependencia técnica de apoyo a la Rectoría para llevar a cabo estas importantes tareas.
Las modificaciones consideran una ampliación del órgano de supervisión de los procesos institucionales de planeación, el Consejo de Planeación y Seguimiento, para quedar integrado por las personas titulares de la Rectoría, de la Secretaría General, de la Oficina de la Abogacía General, de la Secretaría Administrativa, de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Institucional y de la Coordinación encargada de la materia.
El máximo cuerpo colegiado de la UNAM conoció el Informe de la Comisión de Difusión Cultural.

La pasarela del Metro de Miguel Hernández será reformada tras la protesta vecinal 🚧🦺🚇
La Asociación Vecinal Palomeras Sureste del distrito de Puente de Vallecas lleva reclamando desde hace dos años la reparación y una adecuada iluminación de la deteriorada pasarela peatonal que une la salida de la estación de Metro Miguel Hernández, en la avenida de la Albufera, con la calle León Felipe.
Esta pasarela, situada a la altura del Centro de Salud Federica Montseny, es transitada cada día por cerca de un millar de personas que ven como día a día, ha avanzado su deterioro sin que el Ayuntamiento o Metro de Madrid hagan nada por evitarlo.
Tras que el pasado miércoles 26 de febrero se realizase una cadena humana en señal de protesta en la pasarela y se rodeara el perímetro de la misma, Metro de Madrid ha indicado que va a asumir la puesta a punto de dicha infraestructura y posteriormente a las obras, se formalizará una cesión al Ayuntamiento de Madrid.

Instead, they aim to enforce all the CWs which they personally need. Regardless of what someone else may or may not need. Then you comply, and then someone else comes and berates or even sanctions you for using too many and/or completely superfluous CWs.
I've compiled a list with over 140 topics that someone demanded be CW'd at some point. And it's very incomplete because it should technically include politics from not only every last nation on the planet, but also every last federal state, province etc.
The worst offenders are those overly sensitive snowflakes who probably came over from Tumblr, and who present themselves as so easily triggered that they absolutely need literally everything CW'd. And as so feeble that they cannot take care of protecting themselves in any way. Granted, I think it'd be too much for them to set up hundreds or thousands of individual filters, especially what with how unnecessarily complex Mastodon's filters are. But still, they see themselves as entitled enough to demand everyone force CWs for everything on everyone, regardless of who needs CWs for what, because they need CWs for everything.
