  1. Musing about programming languages, I am reminded of this rewrite of the Unix coreutilities in Haskell:

    github.com/Gandalf-/coreutils

Even though I am a (very) longterm GNU/Linux user, I do not consider it to be a very "hackable" system, with all of its modern day complexity. Looking at this reimplementation of the tools feels like a taste of fresh air.

  2. About 6000 posts in and half or so year spent on this platform, I have decided to change my introduction to be less riddled with hastags and reflect me in a light where I’m more comfortable here :)

    Well, let’s begin.

I’m Arija A., more commonly known as Ari Archer and welcome to my corner on the Fediverse where I screech autistic ramblings into your ear until I get tired :)

I am an autistic & transgender 17-year-old avid open source developer as well as a wannabe systems administrator coming from Lithuania who has spent more than half her life bossing computers around :’) currently I’m mainly focusing on the C and Python programming languages as well as some FASM Assembly here and there whereever applicable, though I don’t have much to show when it comes to extremely low level programming, I can do it when needed, but am in no way an expert. My fiery passion for technology is deeply intertwined with my values of democracy, freedom, shareability, and customization.

Personally, I enjoy solving practical problems, although, that doesn’t mean I like to be a number processing machine 24/7 like people like to think. I find those problems exhausting and extremely boring, sadly, it is currently my fate at school since the education system doesn’t have much to offer for people beyond the programme :( I tend to be very dissatisfied with governments and government stated overstructured and outdated systems such as the education and legal systems, I don’t believe that I identify with the label “anarchist” but more of “politicians need a reality check and I can’t believe that people can be this stupid sometimes” xD, of course, it’s not all bad, but sometimes it’s oof.

Most of my work centres around libraries, back-end web development, as well as software and tools. You may find most of my work at https://ari.lt/gh (a dynamic redirect to the main place where I house most of my code currently, should be https://git.ari.lt/ari unless something bad happened to ari-web infrastructure and if so then you shouldn’t be seeing this post in the first place :blobfoxmeltsob:).

Contacts and more about me can be found on my website at https://ari.lt/

Anyway, uh, follow me for brainrot :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  7. Hurray, it's more or less sort of done!

Presenting: My Monolith Watch-face and Mood-Log app for Wasp-OS on PineTime.

(and also the Colmi P8 and Senbono K9 I'm told but I dunno what they are or if it'd work on that)

Here's a blog-post about the work I've done this month:

#Precursor is an #OpenHardware development platform for secure, mobile computation and communication. This pocket-sized device accommodates a built-in display, a physical keyboard, and an internal battery while remaining smaller and lighter than the average smartphone. Precursor was built for use on the road, but it compromises nothing as a development platform. Powered by an #FPGA-hosted, soft-core System-on-Chip ( #SoC ), it gives developers the #freedom to inspect, verify, and customize nearly every aspect of its operation. Join us as we build out a world in which silicon-level #trustworthiness is attainable.

  10. Status update: I ordered a Garmin Edge Explore 2. And returned it, unused.

The device came with a massively outdated firmware and it took multiple tries to get it updated (from a pretty crappy looking macOS app).

Also, the whole Garmin ecosystem just didn't work for me. For some reason, the route planner wasn't available from my dashboard on the Connect website. Navigating directly to the correct URL worked, but the route planner wasn't very good anyway

Also, the device looked and felt like a 15-year-old mobile phone.

With all that it just felt like I wasn't going to be happy with the device and didn't even bother taking it out on a ride (with the additional risk of not being able to return it due to it being used).

Instead, I ordered a Hammerhead Karoo 2. Yes, more expensive, but it's said to have very good navigation, it's a more modern device (basically a mobile phone running Android #hackability), and they have a 45 day return policy where you can try the device and return it if you don't like it.
