Not much in msm about the 1st Transitioning Conference in Santa Marta, Columbia. SO here is my last toot for the day (promisse).
“Still, Australia did sign the Belém Declaration. We are very good at agreeing to things, though not so good at doing them…So with that in mind, the real question is always what Australia does when it gets home. Apparently, what we do is open new gas exploration tenders.”

Good gracious, #AmyRemiekis really knows our #AlboPM. In this article she presents her assessement of the #Labor leader and for my money, I think she nailed it:
“Albanese’s stumbles – from calling Grace Tame difficult and David Pocock a populist, to pushing back against a royal commission following Bondi (for much the same reasons as here), to dragging his feet on gambling reform and doing only the bare minimum when absolutely pushed, to feeling miffed securing fuel supplies and announcing a domestic gas reservation haven’t quelled demands for a gas export tax, to not pushing back hard enough against the misinformation and disinformation surrounding the Indigenous Voice – all of it comes back to the root cause that he gets uncomfortable, and defensive, when he’s asked for a bigger, and braver agenda.”
Read Amy’s piece here:
https://thepoint.com.au/opinions/260521-pms-softly-softly-just-wont-cut-it-any-more-this-latest-slip-is-proof-of-that“There is a running theme among Anthony Albanese’s missteps. His latest […] to dismiss calls for a royal commission into femicide and violence against women follows the pattern – the Prime Minister gets frustrated when the public’s agenda is broader than his own.”

This govt reticence to apply a #GasExportTax or a #SuperProfitTax is not only despicable and a slap in the face of every #Australian, it’s also making a strong case for a call to #EndPoliticalDonationsWe cannot have our Parliamentary Representative in the pocket of #ExtractiveIndustries or any #Corporation or #PrivateEnterprises or indeed championing an economic system that has, and is still proving it doesn’t work for the better interests of society as a whole.
Time for a for a #progressiveREvolution at the #VotingBooths people. Use your vote, use your brain put all Australians before your self interests and we might get out OK on the other side.
#AlboPM, you’re a traitor to the people who put you there in good faith.

As if we don’t have enough #Grifters making a pile on #Australia ‘s slack #TaxRevenue from #GasExports here is another one to add to that pile:
“Amid renewed debate over whether Australia is getting enough tax from its gas exports, an investigation by the ABC shows how one LNG producer uses Singapore to help boost its profits.
That company is Shell, the global oil and gas super major, which is the world’s largest trader of the fuel.
Over the eight years to 2024, Shell’s LNG trading and marketing arm in Singapore made billions of dollars in profit. And it did so by buying LNG from producer countries such as Australia before on-selling the gas at a significant mark-up.”
I wonder how many more #FossilFuel #TaxEvasionSchemes are operating that we don’t know about. Wake up #AlboPM we’re all being had here!

Indeed, how can this be? The answer is simple: Because #AlboPM wishes it so… Why? Well, that’s a whole other question isn’t it?
“The Japanese Government raises $8 billion per year from its Petroleum and Coal Tax, including around $710 million from imports of Australian gas.
By contrast, the Australian Government is currently getting around $420 million per year from gas exporters paying Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT). Prior to 2023, it was receiving zero. Nada. Nothing.
In other words, the Australian Government is getting less money from our gas exports than Japan is.
State and territory governments also raise money from gas, especially Queensland which expects to get $1.2 billion this financial year (page 64) from its onshore deposits.
But most of Australia’s gas exports come from massive offshore deposits owned by the Federal Government. This means that even though far more federally owned gas is exported, Queensland’s government (like Japan’s!) raises more money.
How can this be?”

@gusseting
Yes it does and truly shows us a model to emulate. Prob is for Australia to emulate the Danes, the govt would need to be a shareholder with a controling interest (51%+) and there is little appetive for such an investment in any current political party/groups or even independent. But legislating a #GasExportTax is fully within the govt’s remit. And there the problem is with our politicians’ adherence to the flawed #NeoLiberalism that favours unfetted capitalism and deregulated markets.Change our govt with no major parties able to govt without #Greens and #Indies and we’d have a real shot at this…

CW: Auspol, Housing
Non-profit coop housing has been working for decades in Europe. It is no different from good govt social housing , also working well in Europe for decades (I spent my early years there in social housing in the late 50s early 60s). Long term agreements in some schems are also decades long and a few are no different from home ownership passed on to kids.
It’s all doable, cost effective, socially responsible and a godsend to low wage workers and those who can least afford housing (there is still the issue of waiting lists because there’s never enough …)
Current housing issues in Australia, just like poverty in Australia IS A POLITICAL DECISION. The sooner the electorate understands this, the sooner we can fix it at the ballot box.

Australia has absolute stonks of gas. We're exporting 83% of it as LNG while households and manufacturers get screwed by sky-high prices linked to the global market.
Gas industry: 'A 25% export tax will cause shortages, job losses, and hurt Aussies!'
Reality: We've got enough for domestic needs till 2050. This is just greedy exporters protecting their record profits while paying peanuts in tax. Norway and Qatar tax the hell out of theirs and the industry thrives.
Time to stop being played for fools. Tax the exports, give Australians a fair return on our resources. 91% of readers agree — poll after poll shows it.
Big Gas can cry all they want. The gas belongs to us, not their overseas shareholders.#GasExportTax #FairReturn #gas #gastax #gastaxnow #fossilfuel

All I can say is that if #Labor doesn’t get a substantial #GasExportTax in the May budget (preferably sooner), then it will have missed a golden opportunity, given them absolutely free of political fallout, and brand them as cowards and enablers of immoral #Grifters — a sure defeat at the next elections.
