  1. We've given away $63.8 billion in gas export windfalls since 2022 while families struggle with childcare & uni fees.
A simple 25% LNG export tax could've funded free university/TAFE OR free childcare for years.

  2. Canberra’s fossil fuel overlords are shaking in their boots thanks to David Pocock calling out Labor’s spineless dodge on a 25% gas windfall tax – because apparently taxing Gina Rinehart’s mates more than our beer is promoting grievance! Betoota nails it: with a 94-seat supermajority, Albo’s crew is too captured by lobbyists to grab $60B in wartime profits that could fix wages, healthcare, and the cost-of-living hell for everyday Aussies. Time to tax the gas barons properly and fund the future.

  3. Australia has absolute stonks of gas. We're exporting 83% of it as LNG while households and manufacturers get screwed by sky-high prices linked to the global market.
Gas industry: 'A 25% export tax will cause shortages, job losses, and hurt Aussies!'
Reality: We've got enough for domestic needs till 2050. This is just greedy exporters protecting their record profits while paying peanuts in tax. Norway and Qatar tax the hell out of theirs and the industry thrives.
Time to stop being played for fools. Tax the exports, give Australians a fair return on our resources. 91% of readers agree — poll after poll shows it.
Big Gas can cry all they want. The gas belongs to us, not their overseas shareholders.

  4. RE: newsie.social/@ZhiZhu/11628641

This is exactly what happens when corporations run a nation.
Massive welfare for the rich — trillions in bailouts, subsidies, tax loopholes and sweetheart deals — while they pay basically zero effective tax. The result? A country bled dry, with working people left holding the bag for endless deficits and crumbling services.
Sound familiar, Australia? Our mining multinationals, Big Tech giants and foreign-owned energy firms do the same thing here: rake in billions from our resources and markets, dodge tax through havens and loopholes, then lecture us about "budget emergencies" when it's time to fund Medicare, NDIS or affordable housing.
Corporate capture isn't just an American disease — it's global. Time to tax the bastards properly and put people and planet before profit.

  5. Gas barons are LYING to our faces again.
Australia exported 81 million tonnes of LNG in 2023 — worth ~$86 billion.
Qatar did 80Mt worth ~$83 billion.
    Qatar’s government pocketed $56 BILLION.
    Australian governments got $11 BILLION.

Next year PRRT? A measly $1.5 billion — less than we collect from beer excise. While Aussies pay through the nose for petrol & power, foreign-owned giants (96% of the industry) scream “don’t tax us or we’ll stop investing!!”
25% windfall/export tax NOW. Our gas, our money. Fund the cost-of-living crisis, not Qatar-style profits for Woodside & Santos.

  6. @Alpha1Nine #Dutton caves to gas giants instead of making them pay their fair share! Instead of taxing gas companies properly and ensuring they contribute via a resource tax, Peter Dutton is fast-tracking Woodside’s North West Shelf expansion—a project that would:

    - Lock in decades of free gas for Woodside (worth hundreds of billions!)
    - Drive up WA gas & electricity prices (already tripled since exports began)
    - Risk draining WA’s domestic gas reserves
    - Destroy sacred Murujuga rock art
    - Blow out Australia’s emissions (equal to 12 coal power stations every year!)

A National Interest Test? This project would fail miserably. But Dutton’s priority isn’t Australians—it’s propping up foreign-owned gas corporations raking in record profits while we pay the price.
