  1. “Ditch the Witch” again? The Liberals are back mining the same misogynistic sewer they used against Julia Gillard because apparently they’ve learnt absolutely nothing. As usual, when conservative politics runs out of ideas, it reaches for misogyny.

Criticise policies all you like, that’s democracy. But sexist trash disguised as “politics” just exposes the intellectual bankruptcy and culture war garbage behind it. Funny how the crowd forever lecturing everyone about “respect” and “family values” turns feral the moment a woman is Premier.

Australia deserves better than this pathetic, recycled misogyny from the Libs.

  2. The Liberals got absolutely smashed at two elections in a row, are bleeding voters in every city, and have lost basically an entire generation… so naturally they've decided to dust off Tony Abbott like he's some kind of vintage find at an op shop.
Nothing screams "we've learned absolutely nothing" like handing the wheel to the bloke who turned the party into a fossil fuel appreciation society and a permanent Sky News comment section. Even Advance got sick of him eventually.
This isn't a rebuild. It's a retirement village for ideas that stopped working in 2013, where every problem gets solved with more fear campaigns, more anti-woke carry-on, and more pretending it's still the Howard era.
They've already lost women, young people, cities, moderates, and basically anyone under 60 who reads something other than The Australian. And the answer they've landed on is: "maybe what we need is… more Tony Abbott?"
Mate. Electoral self-immolation usually takes a bit longer than this.

That’s not a broken promise? Mate, this was the gold standard of broken promises.

    “No cuts to education.”
    “No cuts to health.”
“No cuts to the ABC or SBS.”
    “No changes to pensions.”

    Then came the budget chainsaw.

Funny how Murdoch media suddenly discovers outrage over a tiny negative gearing tweak, but barely blinked when Tony Abbott torched half his 2013 promises. 🤔

  4. So apparently the Angus Taylor masterplan is to copy-paste Donald Trump and hope Australians don’t notice.
ICE-style deportations, values tests, culture war nonsense… all imported straight from the US bargain bin.
Even Paul Keating is calling it out as the Liberals defaulting to racism and ditching their own history.
Imagine running a 2026 campaign based on recycled 2016 slogans… from another country.
No ideas, no policy, just fear with an American accent.

  5. Oh wow, Angus Taylor has cracked the case. Labor’s evil ‘emissions obsession’ is why Aussie refineries are shipping fuel overseas while we pay through the nose at the pump.
Top detective work, mate. Almost like those tighter sulphur rules were brought in by the Coalition… when you were Energy Minister. With grants to upgrade the refineries themselves.
But nah, blame Bowen. Classic opposition energy move: rewrite the history, then get mad at the twist you wrote.

  6. @Old_IT_geek Looks like Australia is heading down the same path as the US. The Coalition's 'Trumpian' plan for social media vetting of visitors (even tourists) is straight out of that playbook. Already hearing talk of ramping up deportations and our own version of ICE-style enforcement through Home Affairs/Border Force. #auspol #fascism #LNPfail

  7. The greedy suits at SPC made one fatal choice that destroyed Victoria’s iconic fruit cannery and thousands of jobs.
But the LNP government under Prime Minister Tony Abbott rejected SPC’s $25 million request to modernise and save local jobs — calling it “corporate welfare.”
Yet they happily handed $16 million to Cadbury, a foreign-owned multinational.
Classic LNP hypocrisy: no support for Australian workers and food sovereignty, but plenty of taxpayer cash for overseas bosses when it suits them.
We need public ownership of strategic industries, not this selective corporate welfare that guts manufacturing while workers pay the price.

  8. Australia's Watergate: 7 yrs on, Barnaby Joyce & Angus Taylor's $80M Cayman Islands water scam still unpunished! Taxpayers fleeced for dodgy rights via secrecy & uni-party protection. Labor won't touch it. Smash the corruption!

  9. The Liberals are burying their 2025 election review like it's state secrets. Dutton's bloodbath loss promised transparency—Ley swore it'd be public—but Angus crew now says nah, moving on.
Authors slam it as betrayal and cover-up. Classic Libs: lose big, hide the lessons, then wonder why voters ghost them. More of the same coming...
If they can't own the wipeout, how do they fix it? Transparency for voters, not themselves eh? 😂

  10. Angus Taylor's latest: crank up security vetting & crack down on immigration because some migrants supposedly don't 'share our values'. Cites Bondi terror attack & IS brides repatriation as scare examples. Classic right-wing playbook—Number 1: whip up fear to unsettle the masses & justify hardline controls. Same tactics we're seeing from every populist conservative gov around the world. Australia deserves better than this fearmongering.

  11. Once again, we see the same playbook: when "fiscal responsibility" is needed, it's always education, healthcare, and social services on the chopping block. Never corporate subsidies. Never tax loopholes for the wealthy. Never the billions in concessions to mining companies.
Liberals talk about "tough choices" while protecting the comfortable and squeezing the vulnerable. The pattern is crystal clear—austerity for the many, prosperity for the few.

  12. The Coalition has collapsed for the second time in eight months and Sussan Ley’s leadership could follow at any moment. So who should lead the opposition through this tumultuous time? While former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has been there, he himself is not sure who is best placed to take on the challenge, adding ‘the pool of talent is not enormous at the moment’. Turnbull talks about what went wrong between the Liberals and Nationals and what he thinks it will take to resuscitate his party.

It is worth remembering how fiercely the Murdoch press lined up against Whitlam in the lead up to the dismissal and how reliably it has backed the fossil fuel aligned lnp ever since. The coverage was never neutral and it has shaped decades of public opinion.
The small consolation is that Murdochs outlets now speak mainly to the older crowd. Younger Australians are tuning out entirely, choosing independent and digital sources instead. They are the one bright sign that a better future is still possible here.

  14. The deliberate theft of free education by successive governments is one of the greatest acts of intergenerational theft in our history. I know, because I was one of the lucky ones who benefited from Whitlam's vision. We must restore it.

  15. @rood That's a brutal but accurate example of the logic at work. When healthcare is treated as a commodity, not a right, the math becomes coldly utilitarian.
You're right, the system starts to see people as having a "used by date." A complex, expensive dental procedure to save a tooth isn't "cost-effective" for a low-income person—so the cheaper extraction is the only "choice." This is the same logic that sees a retired person or a chronically ill individual as a "burden" rather than a person.
The previous government's decade long medicare rebate freeze was a policy that deliberately starved bulk billing. The goal was to make public healthcare unviable and push people towards private, for-profit systems. They absolutely would not have a problem with workers collapsing; in that worldview, you're only valuable as a unit of production. When you can't produce, you're a cost to be managed.

This intervention is a small but vital attempt to push back against that exact ideology, to say that health is a public good, not a private luxury.

  16. Coalition MPs weighing up whether to abandon net zero have been briefed on research that argued “heat deaths aren’t a thing”, played down the prospect of substantial sea level rises and claimed “no one has ever made low-cost energy” from wind and solar.

  17. Once upon a time you could buy a Mini, Merc or Citroën made in Australia.
Not just sold here — actually assembled in local factories.
It didn’t last, but it happened. And it says a lot about what we once thought was possible.

  18. @Lats
You probably won’t read this in the Murdoch-controlled Aussie media…
So here’s a British tabloid doing the job: exposing the LNP’s staggering hypocrisy on immigration.
They scream “stop the boats” for votes — then quietly push for a surge in migration to prop up their donors.

  21. So, Mrs Maga wants to be deputy leader of the unAustralian Liberal Party now 😆 I say let her, there's no one better equipped to stamp the unAustralian Libs out of existence at the next election too than her, or possibly Barnaby Joyce or Clive Palmer.. It's a clear cut case of the Electorate not falling for the same old Bullshit anymore, the LNPs same old bag of dirty tricks they bring out at every single election.. the racism, the corruption, the fascism.. the more they lie the wider it becomes known that they're liars, the electorate are sick and tired of it, simple as that.
