It's taken longer than they'd hoped, but January 6, 2021 was the modern version of their ancestor's attack on #FortSumter, April 12, 1861, 160 years earlier.

As far as I can see, the US Civil War continues. Young, Black legislators are expelled from a state legislature. Missouri votes to defund public libraries. People continue to support oligarchy over democracy.

162 years ago today, in the opening salvo of the #CivilWar, South Carolina militia fired upon the Union-held #FortSumter, located on an island in #Charleston's harbor. The rebel shore batteries bombarded Major Robert Anderson's federal troops for 34 hours before the fort was evacuated.
