  1. I really hope Nessel is able to take down this agreement, as well as the Oracle/OpenAI project in Saline. We need the renewables and energy storage the project would bring, but we need it for powering homes and making energy cheaper, not this.

  2. Power flickered at 17:45, died at 18:15. For some reason, #DTE is showing 3 discrete but adjacent outages for my area, each attributed to "Interference with DTE equipment" on their map.
    I wonder what that means...

  3. "DTE Energy is disconnecting thousands of customers while increasing rates and expanding fossil fuel infrastructure, according to a new report. Despite growing energy affordability concerns, the company has continued investing in natural gas and opposing community solar, even as its profits surged 41% in 2024." #Detroit #Michigan #DTE #PlanetDetroit #USPol cc: @BrianAllnutt planetdetroit.org/2025/02/dte-

  4. I've been informed by #DTE that in order to "improve reliability by 90%" in this area, tomorrow they will… "interrupt your service for up to two hours"

  5. Huge shout out to the staff at Hampton Inn on Green road in Ann Arbor who let us cancel night six of power-outage hotel rooms at the last minute when our power came back only one day later than DTE had predicted.

  6. CW: Ann Arbor, outages, DTE

Greetings from Ann Arbor's numerically largest outage area! And meet my new best friend, Jackie.

  7. #NaturalGas leaks from #DTEEnergy’s distribution system in #AnnArbor, #Michigan are likely choking the life away from at least 31 trees, according to a study and legal testimony from a leak detection professional who canvassed 307 miles of public roadways with specialized instruments at the city’s request. Methane gas, most likely escaping from leaks in #DTE gas pipes, has infiltrated the roots or the ground under their branches, the report found.

  8. Next week's heat wave looks like a monster. 😓

Note that the grid's peak electricity demand for the entire year is caused by air conditioning load (typically in late July); so odds are very high #DTE fails us at some point #MIWX #DoesntTransmitEnergy

  9. DTE Energy is building the region’s largest #battery energy storage center at old Trenton coal plant

#Michigan is the first state in the Midwest to establish an #EnergyStorage standard, which is now the third most ambition in the nation,” said Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “#DTE’s new center here in Trenton will help us meet 10% of the statewide storage goal all by itself.”

  10. it’s about 42 degF in the garage and 48 degF in the refrigerator so we just put the stuff from the latter in the former. We’ll have to move it again before it freezes out there, but by then it’ll be refrigerator temperature inside the house so…

    I’d rather have electricity

  11. I kind of wish we had a way of seeing the spread on inside-the-fridge vs outside-the-fridge temperatures, so I could time my stovetop cooking (yay natural gas) of perishable foodstuffs.

  12. Dear #AnnArbor friends
The feasibility study for #PublicPower has been completed. The assessment shows that a community-owned municipal electric utility is both economically feasible & preferable over the long term to continued #DTEEnergy ownership of the local grid.

Go to a2gov.org/departments/city-cou to find your #A2Council member and tell them to DITCH #DTE!!!

  13. Someone on Reddit is saying that #DTE locked their account and cancelled autopay because they complained to the Michigan Public Service Commission.

  14. the mighty Outlier Media wrote about the data on #DTE outages that i started tracking this year.

  15. Sunday's storm knocked out electricity to at least 3,000 people in #AnnArbor. #Michigan’s electric grid is rated 45th of 50 states for reliability. #DTEEnergy continues to raise rates, but fails to improve the aging infrastructure.

  16. On Michigan Radio, there was 2 segments about the #icestorm & the massive #poweroutages that affected 100s thousands in #Michigan in Feb & March of this year. Some #DTEEnergy costumers went w/o power for over a week. Even though they made $1.2B in profit last year, #DTE is asking for a 14% rate increase for residential customers. Reporter Nushrat Rahman talks about MPSC town halls and A2P2's Greg Woodring talks about advocating for an #AnnArbor public power utility.

  17. At #Michigan House Cmte hearing, #ConsumersEnergy & #DTEEnergy spoke the need for the state to invest in its power grid

If I let my house fall into disrepair, I dont say the state needs to fix it. You claim the transmission lines are your property, keep raising rates, cut jobs/services, & give $M profit checks to shareholders & execs! But refuse to make upgrades to the #infrastructure. Then 700K have #poweroutage for days. Then say the state needs to fix YOUR #infrastructure?

  18. #AnnArbor still wants to gradually phase out burning #naturalgas in buildings, even if #DTEEnergy remains committed to providing longterm gas service. As city officials weigh their legal options, including a gas ban for new buildings that #DTE opposes, they’re now seeking to negotiate a new natural gas franchise agreement for Ann Arbor that would align w/ the city’s #carbonneutrality goals to incrementally transition to all-electric buildings.

  19. #DTEEnergy had nearly finished restoring power from last week's #icestorm. Now power is out for 15k in #Washtenaw and 25k in #Detroit. #DTE needs to stop doing patch jobs and actual fix the damn infrastructure!!!

  20. Do you know that there are still people in #Michigan without power from the #icestorm a week ago? Don't worry, #DTEEnergy will automatically give customers a $35 credit if their power was out for 96+ hours. I'm sure that $35 will cover all the food that has gone bad in your fridge or the other expenses accrued during your week long #poweroutage!!! 🙄

  21. Still no power in Georgetown; and the #DTE outage map is showing the numbers going UP in my outage. Ugggh. 48 hours at this point. #DTESUCKS #annarbor #nopower #noprivatemonopolies

  22. @eikenberry It is time we either (a) codified into law a strict schedule of financial incentives based on time without power (it needs to be more expensive to them to let days go than to hire excess third-party crews so we get fixed on the next day, and not 4 days later), or (b) ended their monopoly. #DTE #DTESUCKS #noprivatemonopolies

  23. DTE Energy Cut Operations to Meet Profits Months Before Power Outages

"Job openings went unfilled. Contractors were eliminated, and overtime limited, maintenance work was postponed"

"Three weeks before the ice storm, the Detroit-based utility announced a 95-cent per-share dividend for shareholders, bringing the full-year cash payout for investors to $710 million."

    bridgemi.com/business-watch/dt

  24. Its crazy how some people just got their power back from the ice storm last week (and some people still didn't get theirs back) and now tons of people are losing power again due to this snow storm.

This is unacceptable. We need to move to a public power system and away from scummy for profit companies like DTE.

  25. >5% of Michigan - 500,000 people - have no power rn. Expecting that number to rise significantly by morning. This shit keeps happening.

Extreme weather is definitely a challenge, but this is more than that. This is about the next couple of days.
At least we're only looking at 19F 'next couple of nights.

DTE and Consumers Energy are making record profits, charging record rates, all while allowing what is rightfully the peoples' infrastructure fall to ruin.
