Dec 19, 2025Last year, the pro-#Israel regents of #UniversityOfMichigan (U-M) ignited controversy by recruiting State Attorney Gen. #DanaNessel to crack down on campus #Gaza protesters. Now, members of U-M’s Board of Regents are making large donations to Oakland Cty. Prosecutor Karen McDonald, a candidate who may replace Nessel.
McDonald is the prosecutor in a wealthy suburban county north of Detroit. She also received the highest level of corporate donations from the state’s largest businesses and executives, and is viewed as the establishment choice to replace #Nessel.

AG #DanaNessel's office says it will announce charges in its long-running investigation into fmr #Michigan House Speaker #Republican #LeeChatfield at 2PM ET Tues.
Nessel's media advisory provided no further details of what the charges would be or specifically who will be the subject of the allegations. #Nessel has already charged #Chatfield's top 2 advisors from his term as speaker in the #corruption probe.

The agreement between #DanaNessel's office & #JamesRenner of Lansing was discussed during a brief Ingham County District Court hearing Thurs morning. Judge Kristen Simmons granted a motion to drop the 8 #felony charges that had been brought against Renner.
Danny Wimmer, spox for #Nessel, said the #MIAG's office had dismissed the case under an agreement that Renner will cooperate w/prosecutors.
