#NaturalGas leaks from #DTEEnergy’s distribution system in #AnnArbor, #Michigan are likely choking the life away from at least 31 trees, according to a study and legal testimony from a leak detection professional who canvassed 307 miles of public roadways with specialized instruments at the city’s request. Methane gas, most likely escaping from leaks in #DTE gas pipes, has infiltrated the roots or the ground under their branches, the report found.

#DTEEnergy showed up at 10PM last night... and didn't leave until 1AM.
They may have found the problem and fixed it.
Of course, my neighbors aren't going to like me much because of the chainsaws and the big diesels idling for three hours, but I have the feeling the issue is resolved.
Only logging and time will tell, and you'd best believe I'm going to be logging the voltages. -

@slyskawa INTERESTING. When I called #DTEenergy last year to move to D1.2 they said that Time of Day was a bad choice for Distributed Generation/solar.
DTE explained to me that credits earned during one period couldn't be used during another period, so that credits banked during peak hours couldn't be used for non-peak hours.
This doc seems to support that, but says that it's still a good deal. I'm going to have to dive into it.

On Michigan Radio, there was 2 segments about the #icestorm & the massive #poweroutages that affected 100s thousands in #Michigan in Feb & March of this year. Some #DTEEnergy costumers went w/o power for over a week. Even though they made $1.2B in profit last year, #DTE is asking for a 14% rate increase for residential customers. Reporter Nushrat Rahman talks about MPSC town halls and A2P2's Greg Woodring talks about advocating for an #AnnArbor public power utility.

If I let my house fall into disrepair, I dont say the state needs to fix it. You claim the transmission lines are your property, keep raising rates, cut jobs/services, & give $M profit checks to shareholders & execs! But refuse to make upgrades to the #infrastructure. Then 700K have #poweroutage for days. Then say the state needs to fix YOUR #infrastructure?

#AnnArbor still wants to gradually phase out burning #naturalgas in buildings, even if #DTEEnergy remains committed to providing longterm gas service. As city officials weigh their legal options, including a gas ban for new buildings that #DTE opposes, they’re now seeking to negotiate a new natural gas franchise agreement for Ann Arbor that would align w/ the city’s #carbonneutrality goals to incrementally transition to all-electric buildings.

@redcrew I just saw your post. #ATT cellular was not working. I had to go to the library for internet access.
We finally got power Friday night. I know quite a few people who still do not have power.
This was awful. I consider myself luckier than many because a friend in Ann Arbor checked up on me and lent me a backup battery to run medical equipment.
I am looking into what can be done. #DTEEnergy needs to do better and #PowerOutage emergencies need to be handled better.

This is DTE's operating income for the last three years. Note that "Electric" provides the overwhelming majority of their net income, $956 million out of $1.083 billion in 2022.

@bdimcheff Canton in Wayne County checking in. We have have been without power for 9 hours with no ETA. #DTEEnergy states ice on power lines is the cause. There was several loud booms and light flashes. So, I thought a transformer blew. I do not know if it matters, but we have underground lines. It’s supposed to warm up later in the afternoon. Hopefully that will help #PowerOutage #WinterStorm

Power is mostly out here, but in a very strange way with current only strong enough to run the tiny bathroom nightlight, the very low power LED under counter lights, and the halogen lamp glows faintly if you turn it all the way up. Everything else is dead.

#DTEEnergy cut off power to more than 128,800 customers in the first 10 months of 2022, the third highest number of shutoffs among electric companies nationwide, according to a new report by #Energy and Policy Institute (EPI), a fossil fuel industry watchdog group. That’s a 16% increase over shutoffs in the first 10 months of 2021.
