  1. A pretty meh day but still managed to see several spiders:

    - a mesh-web weaver couple
    - a crab spider, something in Coriarachnini
    - _Attulus fasciger_ with that teeny tiny posterior median eye clearly visible
    - a cobweb spider, maybe _Enoplognatha_?

  2. #Arachtober 24: this handsome, feisty crab spider (_Xysticus_? Coriarachnini, anyway) was all like "I'll fite u!!!…unless you're an incomprehensibly immense weird-feeling alien being in which case I'll just stay very still and hope you go away."

  4. New Travis McEnery video about _Misumena vatia_, the goldenrod crab spider! It's quite a good one, going into their hunting method, colour change ability, and more. You'll be surprised how much we don't know about this common species. youtu.be/MyshXlHuZdc

  6. #Arachtober 26: a very flat crab spider, maybe a bark crab spider (_Bassaniana_) or the like. Note the ⟨ ° • • ° ⟩ eye arrangement and long front legs.

  8. White-banded Crab Spiders (Misumenoides formosipes) lurk in flowers and snatch unwary critters trying to snack on nectar. Females can reversibly change their color to optimize camouflage (not as quickly as cuttlefish or chameleons though). They like to appear white with some green or even bold red on white or purple blossoms and a perfectly matched golden yellow on flowers like goldenrod.

  10. Just a regular old flower, waiting for some delicious fly or bee to come along and be devoured... I mean, get nectar.

    Crab spiders rule.

  12. This a crab spider (family Thomisidae) of some sort. My experience with this is the members of this family hang out near flowers and nab pollinators when they land.

  14. #SpiderSunday: I saw the fly and was holding the milkweed flowers to get a closer look before I saw the crab spider holding it!

The fly was an anthomyiid; I've included a pic of one of its live comrades.

  17. So many wildflowers out there right now. But all that pollen and nectar doesn't come without risk. Crab spiders are expert pollinator predators, blending in with flowers and ambushing hungry bees and flies. This one caught a whopper.

  19. Spotted a Crab Spider (Family Thomisidae) feeding on a Common Mormon (Papilio polytes) butterfly at Pulau Ubin, Singapore, on 10 Feb 2019.

Initially, I was wondering why the butterfly was unnaturally still, then I spotted the spider. The spider was well camouflaged among the white flowers.
