Just saw this magnificent lad hanging off the fence.
Google Lens (*spit*) suggests it's a false widow, and who am I to disagree with the Hallucination Engine. But if there are any arachnologists that care to correct me, I'll be glad to learn.

Bij de laatste pepertjesoogst van dit jaar kwam ik vandaag de 42ste spinnensoort in ons huis+tuin tegen: een groen kaardertje (Nigma walckenaeri). Een groen spinnetje waarvan het mannetje (zoals dit exemplaar) ochottekes 3 à 4 mm groot wordt.

Blurry iPhone Nature Photo of the Day: black widow under a fenceboard guardin’ her big honkin’ egg sac. Even with my creaky old eyes I can spot these messy bitches a mile away; their cobwebs are expansive, chaotic, and Halloweeny, so they reflect light coming from any direction. This was as close as I could get without getting sticky silk all over my phone.

Natuurlijk heb ik die cocons met eitjes bewaard. Ik kon het niet laten om nu, een maand of zeven later, alvast eens in een van die cocons te piepen. Dat maakt die beesten niet veel uit. Of er nu een gat in is of niet, ze blijven gewoon in die cocon zitten tot ze vinden dat het tijd is om de wereld in te trekken. #spinnen #spiders #arachnodon

Vorig jaar spotte ik deze gewone kameleonspin met prooi. Als ze geen prooi vasthebben zijn ze amper te zien.

Als je deze bij roerloos tussen witte bloemetjes ziet zitten, zou je eerst denken dat het gewoon een dode bij is. Maar als je beter kijkt, dan zie je dat de bij gevangen is door een perfect gecamoufleerde spin. Deze witte gewone kameleonspin heeft hier een zandbij te grazen. #bijen #spinnen #insectodon #arachnodon

Gisterenavond zocht het spinnetje wat meer beschutting op (foto 1), wellicht om veilig te vervellen, want met al dat vreten paste ze niet goed meer in haar vel. En zie, vandaag zit ze in een nieuw jasje: overduidelijk een komkommerspin. (foto 2) #spinnen #arachnodon

Een dag of tien geleden had ik tijdens het verwijderen van rozemarijngoudhaantjes van m'n grote rozemarijnstruik ineens ook een minuscuul schattig spinnetje in m'n hand. Ik vroeg me af wat voor een spinnetje het was, stopte het in een miniterrarium en gaf het alle dagen een verse mug. Links op de eerste foto zie je het eerste vervellingshuidje. Intussen wordt duidelijk dat het een komkommerspin is - een kleine maar mooie spin. #spinnen #spiders #arachnodon

Ik zit hier geregeld te zeuren over spin si in huis en spin la in de tuin en hoeveel soorten 'ongedierte' er te onzent wel te vinden vallen. Nu heb ik de verschillende soorten spinnen die ik hier in 2023 spotte even bijeen gegooid in alweer een fenomenaal knullig filmpje. #spinnen #spiders #arachnodon

For #Arachtober - this stunning 'ground' sac #spider (cf. Gnaphosidae Genus indet sp. indet) found on the trunk of a toddy palm, at #powai, #mumbai (13th. AUG 2023 17:21 hrs.)
The Mumbai region is home to several #species many of which still remain undiscovered, and are likely new to #science.

The Arachnid Wars of Dreadful Acres continue apace: the cobweb weavers in my laundry room are kickin’ it up a notch. I greatly appreciate their redoubled efforts in keeping out the riff-raff. This bodacious lil buddy has snagged herself a baby scorpion. Careful with that hind end tho, girlfriend!

This Chonky Spider scrambled out from under a bathmat this morning, so I scooped it up and dropped it out the window.
Bigger than anything I've seen in a while, larger than the resident house spider who lives by the front door.I suppose it's the time of year for critters to start moving indoors!

De wespspin heeft een pyamaschildwants te grazen. Als je goed kijkt zie je op de eerste foto het bundeltje spinsel dat uit de spinklieren aan het achterlijf van de spin komt, en waarmee ze de prooi inpakt. #spinnen #spiders #arachnodon

So many wildflowers out there right now. But all that pollen and nectar doesn't come without risk. Crab spiders are expert pollinator predators, blending in with flowers and ambushing hungry bees and flies. This one caught a whopper.
