I'm honestly not sure how to best tackle that second point.
Although our infrastructure is incomparable to that in a lot of other countries, this is still a #CarCentric country. Cars are everywhere, they got bigger the last n years, and if you have to share the road with them, you'll have to hope the driver is paying attention and yields to you.
We almost got driven off the road with a group recently because a driver did not want to yield where he should.

People often blame the #carCentric model on Oil and car companies, but they would have never been possible if not for #racism which created the #suburbs , with R1 single family only zoning and minimum lot size. The oil and car companies just spread its PR and took advantage of the racism to make a fortune on something no one actually needed and has actively harmed all of us.

One-day family trip to New York City. Staying at the outskirts is a money-saver, but a major chain hotel next to a major highway with no sidewalk (Google didn't recognize this fact, but no one to blame for not doing our research) in this #CarCentric stroad hell known as northern #NewJersey, where even going to the nearest corner store requires driving, is just not it. Well, I guess that's suburban United States for me...

I found the craziest most gigantic parking structure I've ever seen in #spokane. This monstrosity pays true homage to #carculture. I've never seen anything that comes even close, though a quick internet search reveals there are substantially larger structures. Just mind numbing.

#Berlin in #Germany does now what Robert Moses did in #NYC: Tearing down buildings, clubs, housing - for a new #freeway/#Autobahn. People in Berlin voted for more cars, more parking, less bicycle paths, and less pedestrian zones. Berlin goes backwards.
It is a nightmare.

@ECityMom Walking/biking is ideal for kids' activities but less available as the world becomes more and more #CarCentric. Some other options that are closer to home include Friday night swim classes at #MacEwanUniversity, Bouldering at the gym across the street, #NinjaKids programs at several locations, Delta Art Supplies has a list of classes. John Janzen Nature Centre had a lovely indoor playground.

@forpeterssake yeah, if we could solve that problem, the whole thing would be solved! It's kind of like, cars + drivers are eating a giant steak sandwich, & they left a bite for you & me, now they want to take that away too.
Allowing signs to flash at driver speed is definitely a #carcentric choice, but at the same time, City Hall has fretted lots about drivers #speeding etc. So I'm hoping for a study, data, etc that I can present & ask them to think about what they're doing for all road users.

One of the powers of car centrism is that it severely weakens the power of protesting and chances of community organizing. I have a weak belief in this conspiracy theory considering colleges after the 1960s went out of their way to redesign their campuses to make protesting there less effective so student protesters could be more easily herded/isolated and ignored. this in tern made college campuses a lot more confusing and often spread out increasing the amount of inconvenience and walking. #carcentrism #protest #carCentric
