Wow - apparently *none* of the #Gardaí are #pursuit trained to same standards as officers in GB / NI (or other European countries).
How even can a country operate like that?
Folk will be constantly at the mercy of reckless drivers or outright criminals / sociopaths. I have also seen quite a few Irish tooters over the years pointing this out
Sorting this out won't be an easy task - #roads in GB were quite lawless until things got cleaned up starting around late 1990s,. #CarCulture is strong, stubborn and resilient, and older #motorists still resent limitations of their "freedom" and many vote for parties such as Reform / Restore out of spite..

In #Ireland, emergency services use Advanced Mobile Location (AML), which allows compatible smartphones to automatically send highly accurate location information when you call 112 or 999. The phone can use GPS, Wi‑Fi, and other location sources to provide a much more precise position than traditional cell-tower methods. #Gardaí

Today in #Athlone, a Dept of Education Disciplinary Appeals Panel (DAP) meets to hear #EnochBurke's appeal against Jan 2023 dismissal from #WilsonsHospital School.
Burke is transported by #Gardai from #MountjoyPrison. So a day+overtime for 3 Gardai, & use of secure vehicle. #BurkeFamily will be present, so at least 6 more Gardai. Plus costs of the panel itself, & 3 years of Burke's salary, & procedural appeals.

@ccferrie @d_mathieson @BenAveling Malcolm Gladwell and… whatever that surgeon is called who writes similar pieces about hospitals - both have examples of where checklists used as standard can change behaviour and attitudes. It would be simple to have an app with a checklist for getting the facts after any crash, fatal or non-fatal, and the data collected would save lives #gardaí #driving #crash

In recent weeks, we've seen our Minister for Justice appease the right by restricting access for asylum seekers, far right protestors taunt the Gardaí with "we didn't start the fire" and now prominent left activists are arrested while protesting.
We expect Gardaí to police everyone equally, and hope that recent arrests at a pro-Palestine march are an isolated incident, rather than a targeted campaign.
