  1. Beelink ME Pro NAS now available for $369 and up (2 HDDs, 3 SSDs, and a replaceable mainboard)

The Beelink ME Pro is a network-attached storage (NAS) system with support for up to two 3.5 inch hard drives and three M.2 2280 SSDs. While the most interesting thing about the system may be its modular design that allows you remove and replace the motherboard and processor, that’s a feature that you may have to wait a while to truly take advantage of.

  13. Lilbits: A cyberdeck with a 2 inch CRT display, a 25.3 inch E Ink monitor, and the final nail in the coffin for LG’s smartphones

Cyberdecks are portable computers that often have a retro-futuristic design. Often that’s achieved by hobbyists who combine modern hardware (like a Raspberry Pi or a similar single-board computer) with vintage tech.

But one of the coolest… and possibly most useless cyberdeck’s I’ve seen so far takes things to another level by fusing a 2 inch black and white CRT display from 1980s-era Sony […]

  25. LattePanda Mu computer module now available with up to Intel Core i3-N3

The LattePanda Mu is a tiny computer-on-a-module that combines and Intel Alder Lake-0N processor with memory, storage, and I/O capabilities onto a package that measures just 60 x 69.6mm (about 2.36″ x 2.74″).

When LattePanda first launched the module in 2024 it was only available with an Intel N100 quad-core processor. Now the company has introduced a higher-performance model with an Intel Core i3-N305 octa-core chip with support for higher CPU frequencies and speedier graphics. The new model is compatible with carrier boards designed for the original though, which makes the new LattePanda Mu N305 a drop-in replacement for the Mu N100.

At this point, there are now three LattePanda Mu Compute Modules available with different memory, storage, and pricing:

Note that those prices are just for the module, which isn’t much use without a carrier board to plug it into. But you can pay more for a complete kit that includes a carrier board, power supply, fan or heat sink, and other optional add-ons like a 7 inch or 11.6 inch display.

Given how cheap a basic mini PC with an Intel N100 processor is these days, most folks looking for an inexpensive computer would probably be better served by going that route instead. But the LattePanda Mu offers a versatile solution for folks that might want to swap out processor modules, design their own carrier boards, or use a compute module as the brains of a server, router, cluster board, handheld, robot, or some other yet-to-be-designed device.

  27. MeLE PCG02 fanless PC stick now available with Intel N100 for $150 and up

The MeLE PCG02 is a small fanless computer that’s designed to plug directly into the HDMI port of a TV or monitor, effectively turning any screen into a fully functional computer. MeLE has been selling versions of this pocket-sized computer since 2015, but the last major update came in 2020 when the company introduced a model with an Intel Celeron J4125 processor.

Now MeLE has launched a new version with an Intel N100 Alder Lake-N processor. While that chip is a few years old at this point, it should still bring a nice boost in CPU and graphics performance over the even-older J4125 Gemini Lake Refresh processor. The MeLE PCG02 is available now from AliExpress for $150 and up.

One thing to keep in mind is that this little computer features onboard memory and storage – neither is user upgradeable, so if you want more than the 4GB of LPDDR5x-4266 RAM and 128GB of eMMC storage that are included in the base model, you’ll want to buy a higher-spec model.

MeLE offers models with 8GB of RAM for $170 and up, and the marketing materials mention support for up to 16GB of RAM, although there’s no option to purchase a 16GB model yet.

    The computer measures 140 x 60 x 19.5mm (5.5″ x 2.4″ x 0.8″) and features a set of ports and connectors that includes:

    • 1 x HDMI 2.0 connector
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps with DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB-PD)
    • 1 x USB Type-C (12V/2A power input only)
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio combo
    • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 1 x microSD card reader

The system also has a power button, CMOS clear/BIOS reset button, and an adjustable antenna.

Wireless capabilities include support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, and the computer supports Wake on LAN, Network Boot, and RTC Wake functionality, among other things.

While the MeLE PCG02 can be plugged directly into the HDMI port of a display, it’s a bit chunky for a PC Stick, and could end up blocking some other ports, so you can also attach the computer to a VESA mount and run a display cable to your TV or monitor.

Of course, if you’re planning to do that, you might be better off with a slightly larger PCG02 Pro which has two HDMI ports instead of a single HDMI connector. MeLE released an updated version of that mini PC in April, 2025 and you can currently pick up an 8GB/256GB model for $160 at Amazon (when you clip the on-page coupon).

  28. Lilbits: Intel’s new (and upcoming) low-power chips, Lenovo’s new handhelds, and a wireless mouse dongle that’s also a tiny USB-C dock

A growing number of mini PC makers are starting to ship entry-level systems with cheap, low-power Intel N150 Twin Lake processors rather than the Intel N100 Alder Lake-N chips that have been popular for the past two years. On paper the new processor is basically what you get if you take an Intel N100 and increase the maximum CPU and GPU speeds by 200 MHz and 250 MHz, respectively. But in terms of real-world performance? So far it looks like there may not be much… at least based on some of the first benchmarks we’ve seen.

But it looks like Intel may have a true next-gen chip for inexpensive, energy-efficient computers on the way. While Alder Lake-N and Twin Lake chips are 6 to 15 watt processors with between 4 and 8 Efficiency cores, the upcoming Intel Wildcat Lake processor is expected to be a mobile chip with 2 Performance cores and 6 Low Power Efficiency cores. Rumor has it that this will eventually replace Alder Lake-N, although it could be an entry-level Core or Core Ultra chip instead.

Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.

Intel Wildcat Lake could be a next-gen chip for cheap, low-power PCs [Tom’s Hardware]

Intel WildCat Lake processor details leaked, pointing to an upcoming budget processor for low-power devices, possibly set to replace Alder Lake-N with a new 6-core chip combining 2 P-cores and 4 LPE-cores.

Not What You Think – Beelink EQ14 Review [Robtech / YouTube]

One of the first reviews of a mini PC with an Intel N150 processor shows a slight improvement in single-core CPU performance, but no noteworthy increase in multi-core or GPU performance. Keep in mind that there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of mini PCs with N100 chips though, and so far only a few models with N150 processors. So it’s possible that we could see better performance on some models in the future as more models hit the streets. But it seems safe to say that you shouldn’t expect any MAJOR improvements from what is, at most, a minor spec bump.

Wireless mouse receiver is a mini dock with HDMI output and USB Type-C [Tom’s Hardware]

This wireless mouse comes with a wireless transmitter that plugs into a USB-C port. Nothing strange there. But the transmitter is ALSO a tiny dock with an HDMI port and another USB-C port so you don’t lose one when using the dongle.

Valve will be Lenovo’s ‘special guest’ at just-announced gaming handheld event [The Verge]

Following several recent leaks suggesting that new handheld gaming PCs are on the way, including at least one that could run Valve’s Linux-based SteamOS rather than Windows, Lenovo and Valve has pretty much confirmed that they’re working together on something.

The companies have been emailing tech journalists about a January 7th event that will be a “cocktail reception hosted by Lenovo Legion and AMD gaming leaders, with special guests Valve and other gaming industry giants,” where the company will be showing off “our latest Lenovo Legion Go innovations advanced by AMD.”

Interestingly, Microsoft Xbox division will also be represented at the event. While some Lenovo handhelds are still expected to run Windows, I’m guessing this is more about support for streaming games to Lenovo handhelds rather than the operating system itself.

  30. SZBOX X100 is an Alder Lake-N mini PC that looks like an appliance

The SZBOX X100 is a small computer that looks more like a router or some other type of appliance than a typical desktop computer. It has a long and thin metal body with angled edges and curved corners and a design that lets you either lie the computer on its side horizontally or stand it up in a vertical position.

While the X100 may look like an appliance though, it’s got the guts of a fully functional, if relatively low-power computer. The SZBOX X100 is available from AliExpress with prices starting at $146 for a barebones model or $181 for a version with 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage.

The computer features an Intel N100 Alder Lake-N processor, which is a 6-watt quad-core processor with Intel UHD integrated graphics. It won’t break any performance records, but it’s a decent little chip for light computer usage.

The system also has a single SODIMM slot for DDR5 memory, an M.2 2280 slot for PCIE 3.0 NVMe storage, and a set of ports that includes:

    • 2 x HDMI
    • 1 x USB Type-C (for data and video)
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Type-A
    • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 2 x 2.5 Gb Ethernet
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input

SBOX says the computer also supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 and features a fan and copper heat pipe for cooling. With two HDMI ports and a USB-C port, SZBOX says the X100 should support up to three 4K displays.

It also comes with a detachable plastic base that lets you stand the computer up vertically.

I haven’t seen the actual physical dimensions for the computer, but based on the port layout, it looks like it’s probably taller (or wider in horizontal mode) than most recent mini PCs, but a lot thinner.

  31. These fanless mini PCs combine Intel N150 chips with four 2.5 GbE LAN ports

The Intel N150 processor is a new Alder Lake-N chip that’s basically what you get if you crank up the top CPU and GPU speeds of the Intel N100 processor. Intel hasn’t officially announced the new processor yet, but a growing number of mini PC makers are already selling systems powered by the new chip.

Now it looks like network appliance makers are also tapping Intel’s new chip. The HUNSN Micro Firewall Appliance RJ42 and RJ43 models are fanless mini PCs featuring Intel N150 processors, four 2.5 GbE LAN ports, and support for up to 32GB of RAM. They’re available now from AliExpress with prices starting at $218 for a barebones HUNSN RJ42 or $228 for a HUNSN RJ43Update: They’re also available for Amazon, with prices starting at $247 for both the HUNSN RJ42 and RJ43

    HUNSN RJ42

    The systems have nearly identical specifications, but the RJ42 is a little smaller, measuring 145.6 x 126.5 x 53.6mm, compared with 145.6 x 158 x 60.2mm for the RJ43 model.

Both feature an aluminum chassis with fins on top and while they’re designed for passive cooling, there are also holes that let you attach an optional 8010 fan if you want to increase the cooling performance and don’t mind adding a little noise to a system that should otherwise be able to run silently.

Both systems features a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 32GB of DDR5-4800 memory, two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe NVMe x1 storage, and support for an optional 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD.

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI 2.1
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 1 x USB Type-C (with DisplayPort Alt mode)
    • 1 x USB 3.0 Type-A
    • 5 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 4 x 2.5 Gb Ethernet (Intel I226-V)
    • 1 x microSD card reader
    • 1 x 12V/5A power input

The computers can be purchased with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage included. Or you can pick up a barebones model and bring your own memory and storage. Either way, Intel’s 6-watt quad-core processor should be able to handle a range of operating systems including purpose-built software like pfSense, OPNsense, or Proxmox as well as general purpose operating systems like Windows or desktop GNU/Linux distributions.

  32. This Alder Lake-N mini PC has two 10 GbE and two 2.5 GbE LAN ports

The Topton X4H-XL is a compact computer with support for up to an Intel Core i3-N305 Alder Lake-N processor, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to three storage devices.

But what really sets it apart from most mini PCs is that this system is made for networking. It has two 10 GbE SFP+ optical ports and two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports, allowing you to use the system as a high-speed networking device for use as a firewall, file server, or for other applications. The Topton X4H-XL is available now from AliExpress for $204 and up.

The starting price is for a barebones model with an Intel N100 quad-core processor and no memory or storage, but you can also pay more for an Intel Core i3-N305 octa-core processor and up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD.

The computer measures 178.3 x 126.5 x 55mm (7″ x 5″ x 2.2″) and features an aluminum alloy body with fins on the top to aid with passive heat dissipation, but there’s also support for an optional internal fan.

Inside the case there’s a single SODIMM slot with support for single-channel DDR5-4800 memory, an M.2 2280 slots for PCIe 3.0 SSDs, a SATA slot for a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD, and an M.2 2230 E-Key slot that can be used for a wireless card, but which can also be used with an adapter board to add another SSD. There’s also a microSD card reader for removable storage.

    Ports include:

  33. MeLE Overclock4C mini PC with Intel Core i3-N300 coming soon

The MeLE Overclock4C is a nearly pocket-sized desktop computer with an Intel Alder Lake-N processor that’s been pushed to allow better sustained performance by increasing the power limits.

After launching the original MeLe Overclock4C with an Intel N95 processor in 2023, MeLe followed up this summer with a version sporting an Intel N100 chip. Now the company has introduced the most powerful model to date: the new MeLE Overclock4C with an Intel N300 processor should be available soon from Amazon and other retailers.

For the most part, the new computer looks the same as its predecessors, which means it’s a 178 x 94 x 21mm (7″ x 3.7″ x 0.8″) computer with a SODIMM slot for up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory, an M.2 2280 slot for a PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD, support for eMMC flash storage, plus a microsD card reader and plenty of other ports.

What’s new is that instead of a quad-core processor with support for CPU frequencies up to 3.8 GHz, the new model has an octa-core chip that tops out at 3.8 GHz. The new model should also bring a significant boost in graphics performance.

    ChipCoresThreadsMax freqL3 cacheGPUTDPCore i3-N30088Up to 3.8 GHz6MBIntel UHD (32EU / up to 1.25 GHz)7WIntel Processor N95 44Up to 3.4 GHz6MBIntel UHD (16EU / up to 1.2 GHz15WIntel Processor N10044Up to 3.4 GHz6MBIntel UHD (24EU / up to 750 MHz)6W

While the Intel Core i3-N300 processor has a default TDP of 7 watts, MeLE has set the PL1 value to 15 watts for the Overclock 4C, while configuring the system with a PL2 value of 25 watts. While the extra power doesn’t have any impact on the CPU frequency, it could allow the chip to run at or near its top speed for longer periods of time before throttling.

Keep in mind that this is an actively cooled computer, so it’s safe to expect some fan noise during operation.

The version listed at Amazon features 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage (divided between 256GB of onboard eMMC storage and a 256GB SSD). But it’s possible that we could see models with more or less memory and storage. And since the RAM and SSD are both user replaceable, you can also perform your own upgrades.

    Ports include:

    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 2 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x microSD card reader

MeLE says the system supports USB Type-C power adapters with support for 36W (12V/3A) or higher power delivery. The USB Type-C also supports DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode for video output, which means you can connect up to three displays.

Other features include support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 as well as Wake on LAN, Auto Power On, and PXE boot functionality.

  34. Meet some of the first mini PCs with Intel N150 chips

The Intel N150 processor is expected to be a modest update to the popular Intel N100 chip that’s been used in many budget laptops and mini PCs over the past few years. While Intel hasn’t yet officially launched the new processor, at least four PC makers have already introduced upcoming mini PCs that use the new chip.

Asus, Beelink, GM, and SZBOX all plan to offer small desktop computers powered by Intel’s upcoming low-cost, low-power processor.

    Beelink EQ14

Like the Intel N100 “Alder Lake-N” processor, the new Intel N150 is expected to be a 6-watt, 4-core, 4-thread processor with Intel integrated graphics. But it’s expected to feature support for CPU frequencies that are up to 200 MHz faster and GPU frequencies up to 250 MHz faster.

    ChipCoresThreadsBase / Boost freqL3 CacheGPUTDPIntel Processor N15044Up to 3.6 GHz6MBIntel (24EU / up to 1 GHz)6W TDP (default)Intel Processor N10044Up to 3.4 GHz6MBIntel UHD (24EU / up to 750 MHz6W TDP (default)

The new chip is also expected to be just one of several new budget processors from Intel: others are expected to include the Intel N250 (an update to the 6-watt, 4-core Intel Processor N200) and Intel Core 3 N355 (an updated version of the 15-watt, 8-core Intel Core i3-N305).

It’s not entirely clear what code-name covers the new chips: Beelink refers to them as “Twin Lake,” for example, while GMK calls them “Alder Lake-N.” We’ll probably have to wait for Intel to weigh in before we know for sure.

We already knew that Asus and Beelink were planning to use one or more of these chips for upcoming mini PCs, but new about two more models broke over the weekend. So here’s an overview of some of the first mini PCs sporting Intel N150 chips:

    Asus NUC 14 Essential

Seeing as Asus is the company that took over the development, marketing, and distribution of NUC mini PCs from Intel, it’s not surprising that the Asus NUC 14 Essential was one of the first mini PCs announced to feature Intel’s new processor. It was, however, a little surprising that Asus didn’t wait for Intel to make an official announcement before revealing that it’s new 5.3″ x 4.5″ x 1.4″ mini PC would be available with a choice of Intel N150, N250, or Core 3 N355 processors.

The little computer will also be available with a 12-watt, 4-core Intel N97 processor, but that’s not too exciting, as that’s a chip that’s been around for almost two years at this point.

The NUC 14 Essential supports up to 16GB of DDR5-4800 single-channel memory, has a single M.2 2280 slot for PCIe Gen 3 x4 storage, support for WiFi 6E, and a set of ports that includes:

    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps w/DisplayPort 1.4)
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps data-only)
    • 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
    • 1 x HDMI 2.1
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet (RTL8125BG-CG)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input (19V/3.42A, 65W)

Asus says it supports up to three displays simultaneously, and in addition to offering a fully assembled version of the NUC 14 the company plans to offer an NUC 14 Essential Board without a chassis.

Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet.

    Beelink EQ14

The Beelink EQ14 is the latest in a line of EQ series mini PCs from the company that feature an integrated power supply – which means you don’t need a power adapter to plug the computer into a wall outlet. All you need is a compact power cable.

This mini PC has a single SODIMM slot for DDR4-3200 single-channel memory and two M.2 2280 slots for storage. One is a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot while the other only supports PCIe 3.0 x1.

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 3 x USB .2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 2 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio

    The computer measures 126 x 126 x 39mm (4.96″ x 4.96″ x 1.54″) and supports Wake on LAN and auto power on functionality.

This model is already available from Amazon, with a list price of $229 (although it’s on sale for $60 off for Black Friday 2024 when you clip an on-page coupon). It’s also available from AliExpress with prices starting at $189 for a model with 16GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD and an EU power plug.

    Beelink EQ14

    Beelink S13

This model is similar in a lot of ways to the Beelink EQ14. It has the same processor and features the same memory and storage configuration options. But the Beelink S13 is a little smaller than the EQ14, has a single Ethernet port instead of two, and uses an external power supply instead of an integrated one.

A model with 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory and 500GB of PCIe 3.0 storage sells for $219.

    GMK NucBox G3 Plus

Mini PC maker GMK’s new NucBox G3 Plus is already available for purchase from GMKtec.com or for pre-order from Amazon, and it’s the most customizable model so far, as its available with a choice of a green or grey chassis and comes in four configurations:

    • Barebones (no memory, storage, or OS) for $126
    • 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD for $160
    • 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD for $190 (or for $210 from Amazon)
    • 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD for for $230

Note that these prices appear to be part of a launch and/or Black Friday sale, and represent discounts of $30 to $90 off the suggested retail prices, depending on the model. I’d also expect prices to be a little higher at other stores – many Chinese mini PC makers offer lower prices when you order directly from their own websites… but you typically get better customer service and return policies when you buy from Amazon or some other third-party retailers.

Under the hood, the NucBox G3 Plus features a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory and two M.2 slots: one M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 and one M.2 2242 (unspecified)

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x 2.5 GbE LAN
    • 4 x USB 3.2 Type-A
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input (12V/3A)

The NucBox G3 Plus supports WIFi 6 BT and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.

    SZBOX GK3V Pro

The SZBOX GK3V Pro appears to be the most affordable Intel N150-powered mini PC available so far: It’s available from AliExpress with prices starting at $130 for a model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

This little computer measures 130 x 130 x 47.5mm (5.12″ x 5.12″ x 1.87″) and it’s the only model I’ve seen so far with a SATA interface and room for a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD as well as an M.2 2280 slot for solid state storage.

It supports up to 16GB of DDR4-2600 memory and has a set of ports that includes:

    • 2x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x VGA
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Type-A
    • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 1 x LAN (unspecified)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input

The SZBOX GK3V Pro also supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

    Update: And even more…

  36. UP 710S is a credit card-sized computer with Alder Lake-N, an M.2 slot, and a slim design

Nearly a decade after launching the first UP Board single-board computer with a Raspberry Pi-like form factor and an Intel x86 processor, AAEON has expanded the UP Board lineup with a number of different boards in different sizes, shapes, and performance capacities.

The new UP 710S is a return to roots in some ways: like the original UP Board, it’s a credit card-sized computer with an Intel processor. But it features a slimmer design, support for up to an Intel N200 processor, an M.2 2230 E-Key slot, and it’s the company’s first board in this size to feature an RS-232/422/485 connector.

AAEON says it shrunk the vertical height of the computer by replacing the Raspberry Pi-compatible 40-pin connector to a series of slimmer wafers that offer the same functions, including GPIO, I2C, SPI, and COM. This allowed the company to reduce the height of the board from 35mm to 25mm, while the length and width remain 85mm and 56mm, respectively. That could make it easier to fit into “space-constrained environments.”

That also means that HAT (Hardware-Attached-on-Top) boards that worked with earlier models won’t be supported, but developers can still tap into all the same functionality if they need to.

AAEON plans to offer the UP 710S with Intel N50, N97, N100, and N200 processor options and the company says the board supports up to 8GB of LPDDR5 onboard memory and up to 128GB  of eMMC flash storage.

Ports include three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 1.4B, and Gigabit Ethernet, and the board also supports up to a two USB 2.0 connections as well as RS-232/422/485 connections thanks to the 10-pin wafers that replace the 40-pin header. The board supports 12/5A power input.

The M.2 2230 E-Key slot allows users to bring their own wireless card for WiFi and Bluetooth.

AAEON says the UP 710S supports Windows 10, Windows 11, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and Yocto 5.1. But since Intel’s Alder Lake-N chips are well supported by a wide range of operating systems, I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t be able to install an alternate operating system.

The company hasn’t revealed public pricing for the UP 710S costs yet, but customers can make inquiries and place orders through the UP Contact form or wait for the board to show up in the UP Shop.

  38. Radxa Palmshell SLiM X4L is a pocket-sized Intel N100 mini PC for $135 and up

The Palmshell SliM X4L is a compact desktop computer that’s about the size of a very thick smartphone. But it’s a full-fledged computer with an Intel N100 quad-core processor, support for Windows or most GNU/Linux distributions, and a decent set connectivity and I/O options.

At the heart of the system is a Radxa X4 single-board computer (which has similar specs), but the advantage to buying one of Radxa’s Palmshell-branded systems is that you get a complete computer with memory, storage, and a chassis. The Palmshell SLiM X4L is available now from AliExpress or ARACE with prices starting at around $135 for a model with 8GB of RAM, 32GB of eMMC storage, and a 128GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD.

The new model is basically an update over the previous-gen Palmshell SLiM X2L that hit the streets earlier this year, but the new model should deliver significantly better performance thanks to a faster processor and memory and speedier wireless networking features.

Its Intel Alder Lake-N processor should bring a big boost to CPU and graphics performance when compared to the Gemini Lake Refresh chip in the older model. Instead of LPDDR4-2400 memory, the new X4L has LPDDR5-4800 RAM. And instead of WiFi 5 and Gigabit Ethernet, it supports WiFi 6E and 2.5 GbE Ethernet.

The new model also features three USB 3 ports and one USB 2 port, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It supports 12V/3A power input from a USB-C PD power adapter… but you’ll need to provide your own, as Radxa doesn’t include one in the box.

RAM is soldered to the mainboard, which means it’s not user upgradeable. But if 8GB isn’t enough, you can also buy models that come with 16GB or 32GB of memory pre-installed.

Storage can be upgraded, thanks to an M.2 2280 slot.

While the top and sides of the case have fins that look like those you’d find on a fanless computer, the Palmshell X4L does have a 7000 RPM fan for active cooling.

  39. Asus NUC 14 Essential is a mini PC is with next-gen Intel N-series processor options

The Asus NUC 14 Essential is a small desktop computer that measures 135 x 115 x 36mm (5.3″ x 4.5″ x 1.4″) and features a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port, support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth, and support for up to three displays.

It’s also one of the first PCs to support next-gen Intel N-series processors. Asus has posted a product page for the upcoming NUC 14 Essential (NUC14MNK) which shows that it will be available with four processor options: including three that haven’t officially been announced yet.

While the system can be configured with a 12-watt Intel N97 quad-core processor featuring Intel UHD graphics, the product description also mentions three new chips with “Intel Graphics,” including. Asus posted chip names and TDP details, but we can also provide a little extra information about things like cache and CPU frequencies, thanks to a recent leak from @momomo_US:

    • Intel N150 (6W TDP, 6MB cache, up to 3.6 GHz)
    • Intel N250 (6W TDP, 6MB cache, up to 3.8 GHz)
    • Intel Core 3 N355 (15W TDP, 6MB cache, up to 3.9 GHz)

According to @momomo_US, there’s also a new Intel Core 3 N350 on the way with 6MB of cache and speeds up to 3.9 GHz. But it doesn’t look like Asus plans to offer that model.

Intel hasn’t officially confirmed any of these upcoming chips yet, but rumor has it that they’re the follow-up the Intel Alder Lake-N chips that have proven popular in mini PCs and entry-level Chromebooks and other laptops over the past two years.

Alder Lake-N chips are basically 12th-gen Intel Core processors featuring “Gracemont” Efficiency cores without any “Golden Cove” Performance cores. The new N-series chips are also expected to feature Efficiency cores without any Performance cores, but it’s unclear at this point whether they’ll feature the same Gracemont cores as Alder Lake-N, or if they might feature newer “Skymont” architecture (which is what the Efficiency cores in Intel Lunar Lake processors use).

We’ll probably have to wait for Intel to actually introduce these new chips before we get full details about how they compare to the previous-gen Alder Lake-N processors. But the fact that the Asus NUC 14 Essential can support these three new processors or an Intel N97 Alder Lake-N chip suggests that while we can probably expect CPU and graphics performance boosts, the new processors probably aren’t so different that they require a more dramatic overhaul of the computer chassis or mainboard.

And that means we can expect some of the same limitations we’ve grown accustomed to seeing on systems with Alder Lake-N chips. For example, the Asus NUC 14 Essential only supports up to 16GB of single-channel DDR5-4800 memory, only has a single M.2 2280/2242 PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot for NVMe or SATA storage, and lacks any Thunderbolt ports.

But it does have a fair number of ports overall, including:

    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps w/DisplayPort 1.4)
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps data-only)
    • 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
    • 1 x HDMI 2.1
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet (RTL8125BG-CG)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input (19V/3.42A, 65W)

The little computer will be available as a fully configured PC, or as a barebones model (with no memory, storage, or operating system). And Asus will also offer a NUC 14 Essential Board (NUC14MNB) without a chassis.

  46. Mele Overclock 4C pocket-sized computer with Intel N100 now available for under $200

The Mele Overclock 4C is a tiny desktop computer that’s a pocket-sized PC with support for user-upgradeable memory and storage. Last year the company launched the Overclock 4C as a cheap but versatile Intel N95 processor.

Now Mele has expanded the Overclock 4C lineup to include models with Intel N100 chips, which should offer slightly better performance while consuming a little less power. The latest version of the Mele Overclock 4C is available from Amazon with prices starting at under $200 when you clip the on-page coupon.

The computer measures 178 x 94 x 21mm (7″ x 3.7″ x 0.8″), making it small enough to slide into a pocket. But unlike most mini PCs this size, it features a SODIMM slot for user-upgradeable DDR4-3200 memory and an M.2 2280 slot for  a PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe or SATA SSD.

It also has 256GB of eMMC 5.1 flash storage – entry level models ship with just the flash storage, while higher-priced configurations have eMMC and an M.2 SSD.

    Ports include:

    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (Power, data, and video)
    • 1 x USB Type-C (power only)
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 2 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio

The system supports USB Power Delivery and should work with 12 to 20 volt power adapters that supply at least 36 watts of power.

Mele’s “Overclock” branded mini PCs get their name from a feature that lets you adjust the PL1 and PL2 power limits for improved sustained performance. As Ian Morrison noted when reviewing the Overclock 3C for Liliputing though, “overclock” usually implies that the CPU frequency can be increased, and that’s not the case for the Mele Overclock mini PCs.

So what sets the new model apart from the version that launched late last year? Not much, really. But the new version should offer some efficiency improvements.

Both the Intel N95 and N100 processors are part of the Intel Alder Lake-N line of chips, which are basically what you’d get if you built 12th-gen Intel Core processor using only Efficiency cores with no Performance cores.

They’re also both quad-core processors with support for CPU speeds up to 3.4 GHz and Intel UHD graphics. But the Intel N95 chip is a 15-watt processor with 16 GPU execution units (EUs) and graphics speeds up to 1.2 GHz, while the N100 is a 6-watt chip with 24 EUs at up to 750 MHz.

In terms of performance, they’re pretty similar, but since the N100 is designed to use less power, it may be a better fit for a small computer like the Overclock 4C, where there may be a risk of overheating.

Mele’s mini PC also features a copper heat pipe and a 4500 RPM fan that should help keep the system cool while keeping fan noise below 40 dB.
