I finally got the "one offsite" part of the 3-2-1 backup strategy going by using an old #QNAP NAS and an rsync backup task from the #TrueNAS via ssh and a #tailscale network.
And to not forget how to do it, I wrote it up:

Comments and feedback welcome!

Yeah, my NAS died today.
Thank you #QNAP for not informing me about the Intel LPC clock in my NAS even though my NAS is connected to your services and I receive daily emails from you...I'm already in the process of moving my data closer and making my setup less complex so this is just an additional push.
This now means that I say goodbye to my local Plex server because a lot of the data lived on the NAS (no worries I have backups and could probably even get the NAS running again if I have to.

QNAP's implementation of the S3 protocol continues to lag behind, but at least it's usable now.

Welp, I found a but in QuObjects, the S3 interoperability layer app for QNAP NASes. It piggybacks on top of the operating system's certificate, with one glaring omission: It doesn't send the intermediate certificates when identifying itself, so certain TLS libraries will call a foul. The OS itself sends the whole certificate chain just fine.
There's a thread about it here: https://community.qnap.com/t/certificate-chain-missing-on-quobjects-service/6160
