I'm getting to grips with Fedora Atomic. Some hurdles were already taken, but Plex Media Server seems to be a question of tinkering. Podman seems to be the way, who can point me to an effective tutorial or step by step plan?

I am ripping the Bluray extended editions of Lord of the Rings to have higher quality versions on my Plex server. I didn't even watch the movies, just scanning parts to verify it worked. And now I am UGLY CRYING at the end of Return of the King. UGLY CRYING! 😭❤️❗

As a #Windows enthusiast since my school days, I was finally able to upgrade my aging #Dell #OptiPlex 3020M with #Fedora Server 43 a few days ago - and what can I say? Easy and quick installation, hardware was 100% supported: fantastic. Setting it up via #Cockpit is a dream. Currently, two VMs are running for #homeassistant and #plexmediaserver (also with Fedora Server 43, of course).
I'm considering upgrading my #Windows 11 Laptop to Fedora 43 as well, but I'm still hesitating because #Affinity v3 is not compatible. -

New #Plex update is out and while I didn't test it, you may want to update because this "sounds" like it may have been allowing some kind of directory traversal.

#plexmediaserver #macos #mac #plex
I am running PMS on a M2 macMini 8GB. PMS starts when the specific user logs in, so this is working.
Now I am also sometimes using the macMini for work, and for certain applications (keyboard and mouse sharing) it is necessary that no other users are logged in.Is it possible to run PMS as a system service on macOS, which starts when the system starts, i.e. that no user needs to be logged in? It should not be to difficult to install it as a service using launchcontrol, but are there any pitfalls? Or doesn’t it work?
Also asked at https://forums.plex.tv/t/running-plex-as-system-service-on-macos/902958 but no response yet…

Someone at work recently asked me some questions as they began to get into some minor #selfhosting.. Nothing big, just a #NAS with a #PlexMediaServer .
Anyways, their questions got me thinking about the state of my Plex, and now I'm in the rabbit hole of trying to get all my shows updated and shopping for some new ones...
I guess there are worst things to waste time on.

Good tech collected dust.
That's terrible, isn't it? Like buying an ice cream to watch it melt.Caviar Black or something?so i have 4 tb (2x 2TB). i had planned to get one of those NAS appliance enclosures.
in 2 years so much changes.never got the NAS device. dont really need that i guess. enclosures. haha.
i'll prob just install some lightweight LInux. ...
But no. Not that!don't i just want that drive to be storage only?
#NAS
after all, Network Attached Storage (or whatever it means)i have this Lenovo m31 (?) office refurbished thing. just stole 8GB (of the 16) Ram and stuck in my TV pc, but "Eight is Enough".
So just have the 2TB drive in there as storage. and just access via whatever OS is on whatever other drive.
use Plex ?
#PlexMediaServerI have several 500GB-1TB SATA HDD around here. Web Dev archives etc. PDF's you know how it is. Consolidate all that crap once and for all.
Have you any experience w/ like ZFS, or any of the "newer" file systems which aren't EXT/ NTFS?
how would you approach this project SPECIFICALLY in terms of what to do with the Storage. How to best maximize / futureproof, etc.

Tonight I got the Plex Media Server to hang by doing something totally crazy. I fast forwarded a movie. Naturally I don’t expect the Plex developers to think of all the foolish things users might do—like fast forwarding. That’s just too outlandish. Everyone knows users hit play and watch to the end. It’s my own damn fault for being such a radical.

I was offered an update to Plex Media Server tonight and I was thinking how I can’t remember an update ever failing. I’m pretty critical of Plex’s numerous defects, so I thought I should say something nice.
Tonight is not that night… because of course the update failed. I couldn’t even shut it down normally—I had to force quit it and rerun the update again.
This is why I usually take my time before saying something nice about a product. I’ve been burned too many times.

Being on Mastadon, what other ways have you #unplugged from big #technology companies and platforms? Any particular #tools or #software you have moved to and are loving?
Personally, I've moved to the full suite from @protonprivacy and started using @standardnotes. Also got to work on building my own #plexmediaserver.

omfg. Remember how I posted a week or so ago that Plex on my Linux hackintosh was behaving weirdly and not playing videos I had ripped from DVDs?
Accidentally just discovered those videos play JUST FINE on my macOS Mac connecting to that Plex server as a client!
Woohoo!

I'm thinking about bailing from music streaming services for a while (although I really like qobuz)...
but what's the state of the world currently if I was going to rip CDs onto some system?
Plex? I'm going to be using that for videos, so I guess I could start there?
(and yes I'm being lazy by not doing some web searching first)

Random observation with my #Plex media server. I have it installed via their official Debian repository. Plex is only ever executed as a systemd service. At no point, that I'm aware of, does the user "plex" ever sign in interactively for any reason.
Yet installing #PlexMediaServer on Linux does indeed give it a default shell in /etc/passwd , and you can log into that account interactively with bash. I wonder if it would continue to work properly if I changed that to nologin ...

"Server Update Available"
Thanks, #PlexMediaServer. An update is ALWAYS available, considering I use TrueNAS, which is behind release by at least a month. So, thanks. Fucking thanks.

Wow, #PlexMediaServer - did you REALLY create 67,397 files and a total of 19.7gb of metadata on my machine? NOTHING needs to create 67,000 files as metadata. Seriously. Get it into SQLite or something.
