  1. This Intel Raptor Lake network appliance supports up to 8 x 2.5 Gb LAN ports (or 2 x 10 Gb and 4 x 2.5 Gb)

CWWK has updated its line of “soft router” “or firewall appliance” mini PCs with new models powered by Intel Raptor Lake processors that come with a lot of high-speed networking ports.

There’s a model with an Intel U300E processor and eight 2.5 Gb Ethernet ports, as well another model that has six LAN ports: four 2.5 GbE ports, and two SFP cages with 10 Gigabit speeds. At time of publication, […]

  2. Radxa E24C and E54C are small, cheap fanless PCs with four Gigabit Ethernet ports and Rockchip processors

Radxa recently launched two small fanless PCs designed for use as routers or for other applications where you might want a system with four Gigabit Ethernet ports.

The Radxa E24C is a cheaper, lower-performance model that features a Rockchip RK3528A quad-core processor and support for up to 8GB of RAM, while the Radxa E54C looks nearly identical, but comes with up to 32GB of RAM and has […]

  3. “Micro firewall” mini PCs now available with up to Intel Core 3 N355 Twin Lake chips

Intel’s new “Twin Lake” processors are low-cost, low-power chips designed for entry-level computers. The first PCs powered by the chips started to arrive late last year, including systems made for use as firewalls, routers, or other networking appliances.

Up until recently most of those systems were powered by a 6-watt, quad-core Intel N150 processor. Now we’re starting to see systems with […]

  4. These fanless mini PCs combine Intel N150 chips with four 2.5 GbE LAN ports

The Intel N150 processor is a new Alder Lake-N chip that’s basically what you get if you crank up the top CPU and GPU speeds of the Intel N100 processor. Intel hasn’t officially announced the new processor yet, but a growing number of mini PC makers are already selling systems powered by the new chip.

Now it looks like network appliance makers are also tapping Intel’s new chip. The HUNSN Micro Firewall Appliance RJ42 and RJ43 models are fanless mini PCs featuring Intel N150 processors, four 2.5 GbE LAN ports, and support for up to 32GB of RAM. They’re available now from AliExpress with prices starting at $218 for a barebones HUNSN RJ42 or $228 for a HUNSN RJ43Update: They’re also available for Amazon, with prices starting at $247 for both the HUNSN RJ42 and RJ43

    HUNSN RJ42

    The systems have nearly identical specifications, but the RJ42 is a little smaller, measuring 145.6 x 126.5 x 53.6mm, compared with 145.6 x 158 x 60.2mm for the RJ43 model.

Both feature an aluminum chassis with fins on top and while they’re designed for passive cooling, there are also holes that let you attach an optional 8010 fan if you want to increase the cooling performance and don’t mind adding a little noise to a system that should otherwise be able to run silently.

Both systems features a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 32GB of DDR5-4800 memory, two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe NVMe x1 storage, and support for an optional 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD.

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI 2.1
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 1 x USB Type-C (with DisplayPort Alt mode)
    • 1 x USB 3.0 Type-A
    • 5 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 4 x 2.5 Gb Ethernet (Intel I226-V)
    • 1 x microSD card reader
    • 1 x 12V/5A power input

The computers can be purchased with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage included. Or you can pick up a barebones model and bring your own memory and storage. Either way, Intel’s 6-watt quad-core processor should be able to handle a range of operating systems including purpose-built software like pfSense, OPNsense, or Proxmox as well as general purpose operating systems like Windows or desktop GNU/Linux distributions.

  5. This Alder Lake-N mini PC has two 10 GbE and two 2.5 GbE LAN ports

The Topton X4H-XL is a compact computer with support for up to an Intel Core i3-N305 Alder Lake-N processor, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to three storage devices.

But what really sets it apart from most mini PCs is that this system is made for networking. It has two 10 GbE SFP+ optical ports and two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports, allowing you to use the system as a high-speed networking device for use as a firewall, file server, or for other applications. The Topton X4H-XL is available now from AliExpress for $204 and up.

The starting price is for a barebones model with an Intel N100 quad-core processor and no memory or storage, but you can also pay more for an Intel Core i3-N305 octa-core processor and up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD.

The computer measures 178.3 x 126.5 x 55mm (7″ x 5″ x 2.2″) and features an aluminum alloy body with fins on the top to aid with passive heat dissipation, but there’s also support for an optional internal fan.

Inside the case there’s a single SODIMM slot with support for single-channel DDR5-4800 memory, an M.2 2280 slots for PCIe 3.0 SSDs, a SATA slot for a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD, and an M.2 2230 E-Key slot that can be used for a wireless card, but which can also be used with an adapter board to add another SSD. There’s also a microSD card reader for removable storage.

    Ports include:

    • 2 x 10 GbE SFP+ optical LAN (Intel 82599ES)
    • 2 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet (Intel i226-V)
    • 2 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
    • 4 x USB 2.0 Type-A

  6. This little “firewall appliance” is a mini PC with Intel N100 and 6 x 2 5 GbE LAN ports

A few years ago we wrote about a “Firewall Micro Appliance” that was basically a small, fanless computer that combined a 10-watt Intel Celeron J4125 quad-core processor with six 2.5 GbE LAN ports.
Now it looks like Chinese PC makers have updated the design with new models sporting 6-watt Intel N100 chips and DDR5 memory. The latest […]
