  5. Lilbits: More Intel N150 benchmarks, LineageOS 22 released, Radxa launches Orion O6 mini ITX board, and two free PC games available now

Radxa has launched a new mini ITX motherboard with a high-performance ARMv9 processor featuring a 30 TOPS NPU and support for discrete graphics, the LineageOS team has released the first version of their custom Android distribution that’s based on Android 15, and more Intel N150 benchmarks have arrived, showing that it’s a little faster than the Intel N100… at least under the right circumstances.

Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.

Radxa Orion O6 AI Board with Up to 64GB RAM, Dual 5GbE Ports and PCIe Gen4 Expansion [LinuxGizmos]

The Radxa Orion O6 is a mini ITX motherboard features a Cix CD8180 processor with eight ARM Cortex-A720 cores, four Cortex-A520 cores, Immortalis-G720 graphics, a 30 TOPS NPU, up to 64GB of LPDDR5 memory, dual 5 Gb Ethernet ports, support for PCIe 4.0 xx4 storage, a PCIe x16 slot for graphics cards, AI accelerators, or other hardware, and many other features. It sells for around $212 and up.

LineageOS 22: Flourishing Fifteen, Simply Streamlined, Vibrant Vibes [LineageOS]

The new LineageOS default music player is called Twelve. Somewhat confusingly, it debuts with LineageOS 22.1 which is based on… Android 15.

LineageOS 22.1 is now available. The Android 15-based operating system is now available for dozens of devices including Pixel 9 series phones. It also introduces two new apps: a new music player and a PDF viewer.

    Intel N150 Review & Benchmark comparisons [AndroidPC.es]

The Intel N150 “Twin Lake” processor is basically an Intel N100 support for higher CPU and graphics frequencies. Theoretically that should be enough to bring a modest performance boost, but real-world performance will most likely vary from PC to PC depending on a number of factors. So when Robtech reviewed the Beelink EQ14 mini PC recently and found virtually no improvement in multi-core benchmarks, I suggested it might be too soon to draw conclusions about ALL devices with N150 chips.

Now AndroidPC.es has run tests on a NiPoGi E1 mini PC with the same processor and found that it does show small improvements in single-core, multi-core, and graphics performance. But the improvements are small enough that it’s probably not worth upgrading if you already have an Intel N100 computer. But since systems with N150 chips are priced comparably to those with Intel N100, it might be worth keeping an eye out for the newer chip if you’re in the market for a new mini PC.

  7. Lilbits: Intel’s new (and upcoming) low-power chips, Lenovo’s new handhelds, and a wireless mouse dongle that’s also a tiny USB-C dock

A growing number of mini PC makers are starting to ship entry-level systems with cheap, low-power Intel N150 Twin Lake processors rather than the Intel N100 Alder Lake-N chips that have been popular for the past two years. On paper the new processor is basically what you get if you take an Intel N100 and increase the maximum CPU and GPU speeds by 200 MHz and 250 MHz, respectively. But in terms of real-world performance? So far it looks like there may not be much… at least based on some of the first benchmarks we’ve seen.

But it looks like Intel may have a true next-gen chip for inexpensive, energy-efficient computers on the way. While Alder Lake-N and Twin Lake chips are 6 to 15 watt processors with between 4 and 8 Efficiency cores, the upcoming Intel Wildcat Lake processor is expected to be a mobile chip with 2 Performance cores and 6 Low Power Efficiency cores. Rumor has it that this will eventually replace Alder Lake-N, although it could be an entry-level Core or Core Ultra chip instead.

Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web.

Not What You Think – Beelink EQ14 Review [Robtech / YouTube]

One of the first reviews of a mini PC with an Intel N150 processor shows a slight improvement in single-core CPU performance, but no noteworthy increase in multi-core or GPU performance. Keep in mind that there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of mini PCs with N100 chips though, and so far only a few models with N150 processors. So it’s possible that we could see better performance on some models in the future as more models hit the streets. But it seems safe to say that you shouldn’t expect any MAJOR improvements from what is, at most, a minor spec bump.

Wireless mouse receiver is a mini dock with HDMI output and USB Type-C [Tom’s Hardware]

This wireless mouse comes with a wireless transmitter that plugs into a USB-C port. Nothing strange there. But the transmitter is ALSO a tiny dock with an HDMI port and another USB-C port so you don’t lose one when using the dongle.

Valve will be Lenovo’s ‘special guest’ at just-announced gaming handheld event [The Verge]

Following several recent leaks suggesting that new handheld gaming PCs are on the way, including at least one that could run Valve’s Linux-based SteamOS rather than Windows, Lenovo and Valve has pretty much confirmed that they’re working together on something.

The companies have been emailing tech journalists about a January 7th event that will be a “cocktail reception hosted by Lenovo Legion and AMD gaming leaders, with special guests Valve and other gaming industry giants,” where the company will be showing off “our latest Lenovo Legion Go innovations advanced by AMD.”

Interestingly, Microsoft Xbox division will also be represented at the event. While some Lenovo handhelds are still expected to run Windows, I’m guessing this is more about support for streaming games to Lenovo handhelds rather than the operating system itself.

  9. GMK NucBox G2 Plus is another 3.4 inch Intel N150 mini PC that supports up to three displays

The GMK NucBox G2 Plus is a tiny desktop computer that’s small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, at just 3.42″ x 3.42″ x 1.55″. But it’s a pretty capable little machine too, with a 6-watt Intel N150 quad-core processor, 12GB of LPDDR5-4800 onboard memory and an M.2 2242 slot for a user-replaceable SSD, along with a pretty decent set of ports.

GMK is selling the little computer for $156 and up when you buy from the GMKTec website. But it’s also available from Amazon in France, Spain, and Germany and could soon be available for purchase from Amazon in the US as well.

The little computer is the latest entry in the growing category of mini PCs with Intel N150 “Twin Lake” processors. The chip is based on the same Alder Lake-N architecture as the popular Intel N100 chip that’s found in dozens of mini PCs and other small, cheap computers released in the past few years. But the new Intel N150 chip supports higher CPU and graphics frequencies, which should bring a modest performance improvement.

This model is one of the smaller Intel N150 mini PCs I’ve seen so far, but it still has plenty of I/O features including support for WIFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 and a set of ports that includes:

    • 2 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 2 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x USB-C (for 12V/3A power input)

The port selection looks familiar… so familiar that I’m 99% convinced the GMK NucBox G2 Plus is using the same motherboard as the M8S Twin Lake mini PC I spotted last week. But GMK is using a slightly different chassis and the two computers have the board positioned in opposite directions (so the ports are in the bottom section of the M8S and the top section of the NucBox G2 Plus).

GMK’s mini PC also has 7 RGB LED lights along the bottom of the computer that allow the base to glow in different colors. You can adjust the lighting settings from the UEFI/BIOS menu.

  10. ACEMAGIC V1 is a 3.9 inch mini PC with Intel N150

The ACEMAGIC V1 is desktop computer that measures just 3.9″ x 3.9″ x 1.2″. But it’s a versatile little computer with a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory, an M.2 2280 slot with support for PCIe 3.0 NVMe storage.

It’s also one of the latest in a growing number of little computers with an Intel N150 processor, which is a 6-watt, quad-core processor with support for higher CPU and graphics frequencies than the popular Intel N100. The ACEMAGIC V1 should be available soon from Amazon and other retailers.

The computer has a metal body and a fan for active cooling. Ports include:

    • 1 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input

It also supports WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2.

While the Intel N150 is still very much a budget chip for low-power applications, the system should be able to drive up to two 4K displays, making it a possible solution for digital signage, home theater, or lightweight general purpose computing applications.

  11. These fanless mini PCs combine Intel N150 chips with four 2.5 GbE LAN ports

The Intel N150 processor is a new Alder Lake-N chip that’s basically what you get if you crank up the top CPU and GPU speeds of the Intel N100 processor. Intel hasn’t officially announced the new processor yet, but a growing number of mini PC makers are already selling systems powered by the new chip.

Now it looks like network appliance makers are also tapping Intel’s new chip. The HUNSN Micro Firewall Appliance RJ42 and RJ43 models are fanless mini PCs featuring Intel N150 processors, four 2.5 GbE LAN ports, and support for up to 32GB of RAM. They’re available now from AliExpress with prices starting at $218 for a barebones HUNSN RJ42 or $228 for a HUNSN RJ43Update: They’re also available for Amazon, with prices starting at $247 for both the HUNSN RJ42 and RJ43

    HUNSN RJ42

    The systems have nearly identical specifications, but the RJ42 is a little smaller, measuring 145.6 x 126.5 x 53.6mm, compared with 145.6 x 158 x 60.2mm for the RJ43 model.

Both feature an aluminum chassis with fins on top and while they’re designed for passive cooling, there are also holes that let you attach an optional 8010 fan if you want to increase the cooling performance and don’t mind adding a little noise to a system that should otherwise be able to run silently.

Both systems features a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 32GB of DDR5-4800 memory, two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe NVMe x1 storage, and support for an optional 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD.

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI 2.1
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 1 x USB Type-C (with DisplayPort Alt mode)
    • 1 x USB 3.0 Type-A
    • 5 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 4 x 2.5 Gb Ethernet (Intel I226-V)
    • 1 x microSD card reader
    • 1 x 12V/5A power input

The computers can be purchased with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage included. Or you can pick up a barebones model and bring your own memory and storage. Either way, Intel’s 6-watt quad-core processor should be able to handle a range of operating systems including purpose-built software like pfSense, OPNsense, or Proxmox as well as general purpose operating systems like Windows or desktop GNU/Linux distributions.

  12. This 3.4 inch mini PC has an Intel N150 processor, 2 LAN ports, and supports 3 displays

The M8S Twin Lake mini PC features a 6-watt Intel N150 quad-core processor, 12GB of LPDDR5-4800 RAM, and an M.2 slot for solid state storage. It also features plenty of ports, including two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two HDMI ports, and a DisplayPort, allowing you to use the computer as a networking device, digital signage system, or multimedia PC, among other things.

That’s particularly impressive given its small size: at just 87 x 87 x 36.5mm (3.43″ x 3.43″ x 1.44″) the M8S is the smallest Intel N150 mini PC I’ve seen so far. It’s available now from AliExpress with prices starting at $150 for a barebones model with no storage or $162 for a model with 128GB of storage and Windows 11.

You can also configure the system with up to a 2TB SSD or bring your own if you’d like more choice in the storage speed and capacity.

Since the system uses LPDDR5-4800 memory that’s soldered to the motherboard, there’s no easy way to upgrade the RAM. But there’s an M.2 2242 slot for a user replaceable PCIe 3.0 x2 NVMe or SATA SSD.

Other features include support for WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, three USB 3.2 Type-A ports, one USB 2.0 Type-A port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port that functions as a power input. The little computer comes with a 12V/3A USB-C power adapter.

Several Chinese mini PC brands selling the M8S Twin Lake mini PC including Kingnovy and Topton, and I suspect we may see more in the future. It may be the first 3.4 inch mini PC I’ve seen to feature Intel’s new N150 processor, but it’s common for multiple Chinese mini PC makers to offer the same computer under different names.

The Intel N150 processor is a modest update to the popular Intel N100. They’re both cheap, low-power processors based on Alder Lake-N architecture featuring 4 CPU cores and Intel integrated graphics with 24 execution units. But the Intel N150 supports CPU speeds up to 3.6 GHz and GPU speeds up to 1 GHz. Those frequencies are 200 MHz and 250 MHz higher, respectively, than the top speeds available on the Intel N100 processor.

  13. Beelink S13 is a budget mini PC with Intel N150 and two M.2 2280 slots

A few weeks after introducing the Beelink EQ14 mini PC with an Intel N150 processor, Beelink has launched another model with the same chip.

The Beelink S13 is another compact computer with Intel’s low-power quad-core processor. But while the EQ14 has an integrated power supply and two Ethernet ports, the S13 uses an external power adapter and has just one Ethernet port. The S13 is a little smaller than the EQ14 though, to it’ll take up less space on your desk, behind your display, or wherever else you want to stash it. The Beelink S13 is available now for $219.

At the heart of both systems is an Intel N150 processor, which is a 6 watt chip that can run at up to 25 watts in this computer. It supports CPU speeds up to 3.6 GHz and features 1 GHz Intel integrated graphics with 24 execution units.

The $219 price tag for the Beelink S13 is for a model with 16GB of memory and a 500GB SSD. But both are user replaceable, since the system features:

    • 1 x SODIMM slot for single-channel DDR4-3200 RAM
    • 1 x M.2 2280 slot for a PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD
    • 1 x M.2 2280 slot for a PCIe 3.0 x1 SSD

The system also features support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, two HDMI ports for 4K/60 Hz video output, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

So far those features are virtually identical to those for the Beelink EQ14. Here’s what’s different:

  14. Meet some of the first mini PCs with Intel N150 chips

The Intel N150 processor is expected to be a modest update to the popular Intel N100 chip that’s been used in many budget laptops and mini PCs over the past few years. While Intel hasn’t yet officially launched the new processor, at least four PC makers have already introduced upcoming mini PCs that use the new chip.

Asus, Beelink, GM, and SZBOX all plan to offer small desktop computers powered by Intel’s upcoming low-cost, low-power processor.

    Beelink EQ14

Like the Intel N100 “Alder Lake-N” processor, the new Intel N150 is expected to be a 6-watt, 4-core, 4-thread processor with Intel integrated graphics. But it’s expected to feature support for CPU frequencies that are up to 200 MHz faster and GPU frequencies up to 250 MHz faster.

    ChipCoresThreadsBase / Boost freqL3 CacheGPUTDPIntel Processor N15044Up to 3.6 GHz6MBIntel (24EU / up to 1 GHz)6W TDP (default)Intel Processor N10044Up to 3.4 GHz6MBIntel UHD (24EU / up to 750 MHz6W TDP (default)

The new chip is also expected to be just one of several new budget processors from Intel: others are expected to include the Intel N250 (an update to the 6-watt, 4-core Intel Processor N200) and Intel Core 3 N355 (an updated version of the 15-watt, 8-core Intel Core i3-N305).

It’s not entirely clear what code-name covers the new chips: Beelink refers to them as “Twin Lake,” for example, while GMK calls them “Alder Lake-N.” We’ll probably have to wait for Intel to weigh in before we know for sure.

We already knew that Asus and Beelink were planning to use one or more of these chips for upcoming mini PCs, but new about two more models broke over the weekend. So here’s an overview of some of the first mini PCs sporting Intel N150 chips:

    Asus NUC 14 Essential

Seeing as Asus is the company that took over the development, marketing, and distribution of NUC mini PCs from Intel, it’s not surprising that the Asus NUC 14 Essential was one of the first mini PCs announced to feature Intel’s new processor. It was, however, a little surprising that Asus didn’t wait for Intel to make an official announcement before revealing that it’s new 5.3″ x 4.5″ x 1.4″ mini PC would be available with a choice of Intel N150, N250, or Core 3 N355 processors.

The little computer will also be available with a 12-watt, 4-core Intel N97 processor, but that’s not too exciting, as that’s a chip that’s been around for almost two years at this point.

The NUC 14 Essential supports up to 16GB of DDR5-4800 single-channel memory, has a single M.2 2280 slot for PCIe Gen 3 x4 storage, support for WiFi 6E, and a set of ports that includes:

    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps w/DisplayPort 1.4)
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps data-only)
    • 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
    • 1 x HDMI 2.1
    • 1 x DisplayPort 1.4
    • 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet (RTL8125BG-CG)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input (19V/3.42A, 65W)

Asus says it supports up to three displays simultaneously, and in addition to offering a fully assembled version of the NUC 14 the company plans to offer an NUC 14 Essential Board without a chassis.

Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet.

    Beelink EQ14

The Beelink EQ14 is the latest in a line of EQ series mini PCs from the company that feature an integrated power supply – which means you don’t need a power adapter to plug the computer into a wall outlet. All you need is a compact power cable.

This mini PC has a single SODIMM slot for DDR4-3200 single-channel memory and two M.2 2280 slots for storage. One is a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot while the other only supports PCIe 3.0 x1.

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI
    • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 3 x USB .2 Gen 2 Type-A
    • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 2 x Gigabit Ethernet
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio

    The computer measures 126 x 126 x 39mm (4.96″ x 4.96″ x 1.54″) and supports Wake on LAN and auto power on functionality.

This model is already available from Amazon, with a list price of $229 (although it’s on sale for $60 off for Black Friday 2024 when you clip an on-page coupon). It’s also available from AliExpress with prices starting at $189 for a model with 16GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD and an EU power plug.

    Beelink EQ14

    Beelink S13

This model is similar in a lot of ways to the Beelink EQ14. It has the same processor and features the same memory and storage configuration options. But the Beelink S13 is a little smaller than the EQ14, has a single Ethernet port instead of two, and uses an external power supply instead of an integrated one.

A model with 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory and 500GB of PCIe 3.0 storage sells for $219.

    GMK NucBox G3 Plus

Mini PC maker GMK’s new NucBox G3 Plus is already available for purchase from GMKtec.com or for pre-order from Amazon, and it’s the most customizable model so far, as its available with a choice of a green or grey chassis and comes in four configurations:

    • Barebones (no memory, storage, or OS) for $126
    • 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD for $160
    • 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD for $190 (or for $210 from Amazon)
    • 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD for for $230

Note that these prices appear to be part of a launch and/or Black Friday sale, and represent discounts of $30 to $90 off the suggested retail prices, depending on the model. I’d also expect prices to be a little higher at other stores – many Chinese mini PC makers offer lower prices when you order directly from their own websites… but you typically get better customer service and return policies when you buy from Amazon or some other third-party retailers.

Under the hood, the NucBox G3 Plus features a single SODIMM slot with support for up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory and two M.2 slots: one M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 and one M.2 2242 (unspecified)

    Ports include:

    • 2 x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x 2.5 GbE LAN
    • 4 x USB 3.2 Type-A
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input (12V/3A)

The NucBox G3 Plus supports WIFi 6 BT and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.

    SZBOX GK3V Pro

The SZBOX GK3V Pro appears to be the most affordable Intel N150-powered mini PC available so far: It’s available from AliExpress with prices starting at $130 for a model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

This little computer measures 130 x 130 x 47.5mm (5.12″ x 5.12″ x 1.87″) and it’s the only model I’ve seen so far with a SATA interface and room for a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD as well as an M.2 2280 slot for solid state storage.

It supports up to 16GB of DDR4-2600 memory and has a set of ports that includes:

    • 2x HDMI 2.0
    • 1 x VGA
    • 2 x USB 3.2 Type-A
    • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
    • 1 x LAN (unspecified)
    • 1 x 3.5mm audio
    • 1 x DC power input

The SZBOX GK3V Pro also supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

    Update: And even more…

  15. Beelink EQ14 mini PC is powered by an unannounced Intel N150 processor

The Beelink EQ14 is a small desktop computer with two Ethernet ports, an integrated power supply, and support for up to two SSDs.

It’s also the second mini PC announced to date that will be available with an Intel N150 processor, a follow-up to the popular Intel N100 Alder Lake-N chip that powers many budget laptops and mini PCs released in the past few years. Intel hasn’t officially introduced the N150 processor yet, but according to recent leaks it should bring a modest boost in CPU and graphics performance over the Intel N100. Update: The Beelink EQ14 is listed at Amazon, where a model featuring 16GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD is priced at $229.

The first mini PC maker to introduce a product with an Intel N150 processor was Asus: the upcoming Asus NUC 14 Essential is a mini PC with support for Intel N150, N250, or Core 3-N355 processor options.

Those chips are expected to bring modest spec bumps over the Intel N100, N200, and Core i3-N305, respectively. And while it’s unclear if there are any significant architectural changes, the Beelink EQ14 will feature an Intel N150 quad-core processor with support for CPU frequencies up to 200 MHz higher than those supported by the N100, and Intel integrated graphics with support for GPU speeds up to 250 MHz faster than the Intel N100.

While the Intel N150 is expected to be a 6-watt processor, like the Intel N100 before it, in a post on Chinese social media site Weibo, Beelink says the EQ14 will allow the chip to run at up to 25 watts.

Other features include a plastic body with a fan and heat sin for active and passive cooling, a single SODIMM slot for DDR4 memory, and two M.2 2280 slots for storage: one with PCIe 3.0 x4 support and another with PCIe 3.0 x1 support.

Like the Beelink EQ13 that launched earlier this year, the EQ14 features an integrated power supply, which means that you don’t need an external power brick or adapter – you just need to run a power cord from the back of the computer to an AC outlet.

Other features include USB Type-C and Type-A ports, a headphone jack, and what appear to be at least two dedicated video outputs. Beelink hasn’t added information about the upcoming EQ14 mini PC to its website yet, but according to pictures shared on social media by @realVictor_M (1)(2), the computer will be pretty cheap when it launches soon in China, with prices for a barebones model (without any memory, storage, or operating system) starting as low as 599 CNY ($83).
